I don't run, so I have no comparison for how the vivofit distinguishes the difference. I also do use the HRM anytime I do exercise other than walking. As I understand it, you should not also enter exercises into MFP when they sync with GC, however, GC reports it's calories to MFP, but it recognizes any activities as…

Awesome communication. Thanks for all the input.

My calorie adjustments between MFP and GC Re completely broken now. No data is transferring and nothing I do to fix it works.

September first and as if now I cannot even get Garmin Connect to send calorie adjustments to MFP. At this point I am pissed. Garmins customer support is among the worst I've seen. I tried foowing a suggestion on he forum to reconnect the two, and I cannot get them to connect at all now. The disconnect feature in the GC…

For my part, I definitely see some legitimacy in this being a disorder, and a very difficult one. I also see potential for the term to be abused on sites like this one. Sadly, I may know at least one person who fits almost all of these criteria. I can't imagine how difficult the topic would be to bring up, let alone…

The quick way would be to decide that organic celery or ice cream are the only safe, healthy foods on earth and eat'em exclusively for the long term. I'm willing to bet the celery diet would suck quicker than the ice cream diet. Both would suck pretty quickly.

Good input so far. Thanks.

You've had some good advice here, but for a healthy person. Nobody here has a clue whether or not you're healthy. Go see a doctor.

I suggest that you eat some. Why not? One enjoyable treat of chocolate is not going to make or break a diet.

This, because the link is truthful.

I would tend to think of hummus as a healthier alternative to mayo, but then I don't see mayo as a bad food, it's just super calorie dense and on some days I prefer to eat those calories elsewhere.

Thanks for the further insight. It basically confirms my former understanding that burning 10 calories per minute should be about the best I could expect, and in realty it is probably lower. This is helpful, since I can use it as a ceiling for what app software estimates my burn to be before eating back calories. I try to…

Thanks for the clarification. I essentially take almost everything I read here with a grain of salt, and since my weight loss efforts have been successful, my motto is, " if it ain't broke, don't fix it." So, I've made no significant changes to my mode of operation based on your info. It's helpful to know what you really…

Thanks. That helps. I still don't think I'll eat back more than half calories, but that sounds like clean confirmation that my assumption of 10 calories burned per minute is far too low.

Dang! Made my first batch of homemade hummus, made with home made tahini. Freakin' deeeelish!

MFP has housekeeping listed under cardio exercises. I think the calorie estimate for housekeeping is a little high, but it's in there.

I'm actually moving toward making my own, so it'll be up to me. I might even toss in a little flax seed and see how that goes.

Can you, (or anyone else,) recommend a good low calorie mayo that is comparable in flavor to good old Best Foods Real Mayo?
-
That's a new one to me. That sounds really good.

I don't count water intake. Just drink water when you're thirsty, before you have the other beverages. The funny thing is, the more you drink it, the more you find yourself wanting it. Adding water tracking to calorie tracking is too much trouble, in my opinion. It makes it unsustainable for me and far too much hassle.…

Oh yeah. That damned red line makes me walk quite a bit more. Yep, I am that easy to manipulate. That's the second time I've said that today. I'm happy with the vivofit too. I'll be sticking with it until the Amiigo either proves itself or something better comes along.

So far, mine remains off by about 2000 calories at days end. And I only eat about 2000 calories.
-
If I understand it correctly, the vivofit uses no GPS information when logging an activity, so the calorie count would be based on heart rate and an algorithm based on your height, weight and age, while counting your steps and distance based on estimates and a different algorithm using it's accelerometer. I didn't quite…

Depending on what your weight loss goal is in MFP, I think yu can safely just eat a portion of the calories back, but eating them all would likely be safe too. I would recommend using the sedentary setting unless your activity really does fit the description of light activity. If you're on sedentary, then anything Garmin…

I do two things. I use the database, looking for the most comparable thing I can find, usually picking something with the highest or near highest calories, so my guesstimate is a little padded. Then I just don't worry about it. This is a long term game of estimates. In the end, being a couple hundred calories off on one…

Salt counteracts bitterness to a degree. Probably not enough to counteract grapefruit though. On the other hand, I can't help but doubt that any diet is so sensitive that adding some additional fruit to a smoothie one time would ruin the overall long term diet goal.
-
I should add that the lack of confirmations in the app plays into the confidence factor as well, but I don't know that the app has ever shown confirmations. That would be a huge help.

I just tried a new, and tasty addition to this one: about a tablespoon of almond butter. It works.
