  • i was at 50+lbs to lose to start but my general experience is the more you have to lose, the quicker the first load comes off. it's great because it's a huge positive boost and great start to it! once you get closer to your goal though, it will come off slower. When i started at 208lbs, i lost a stone in just over a month.…
  • good for you for getting back on it, and being so honest. i know exactly what you mean - i know how to do it, but i choose not to. my 'favourite' is, if i have a day off logging, i eat continually throughout the day because it doesn't matter... d'oh. i went from around 200lb to 150lb over the course of a year. the next…
  • hell yeah to charity shops! as soon as something gets a bit baggy, i donate it straight back and i buy something new. keeps my wardrobe fresh and i can get 4+ pairs of jeans for the price people i know pay for one pair! a good tip is to trawl the charity shops in affluent areas :)
  • i've seen very up and down reviews about fat % scales so i avoided them. to be honest, i only use my (cheap mechanical) scales as a guide and use my tape measure to keep track better. if you're just starting out i highly recommend taking full measurements and also 'before' photos. i really wish i had! if you look on amazon…
  • twinings just brought out three new green teas - gingerbread (smells amazing though tastes like slightly gingery green tea), salted caramel (currently drinking which tastes almost as good as it smells) and caramelised apple (haven't tried yet) i have green tea at work as we don't have a cold water machine, i don't trust…
  • don't be disheartened by the scales! my weight goes up and down several pounds one day to the next! i've learnt to pretty much use it as an average and focus more on measurements.
  • sounds like you're more lightly active to me. i've seen people on here say that sedentary is for people who do absolute bare minimum. saying that i set mine to sedentary as i add my exercise in separately. it also depends on how much weight you have to lose and how quickly you want to lose it. if you're just starting out,…
  • love tea! my desk at work it full of little pots of green and white teas. also have a few packs of teapigs - favourite of those is the chilli chai :) chocolate chai from twinings or whittard is amazing too. and cherry and cinnamon twinings... all so good!
  • sorry artsy for following you to this group but i LUHVE sherlock! i'm in england so we got them straight off and please note, i won't give any spoilers in case people haven't seen the other two eps! i really liked it though some of my fellow englishers found it quite smug. i'm abig fan of BC though so i wouldn't hate it.…
  • good luck to you too. i lost 50lb over a year when i first came on here, it makes it much easier :)
  • feel free to add me :)
  • i haven't done it but have seen loads of threads on here about it - if you go to the message boards you can search 'insanity calories' and loads of info will come up to help you. good luck :)
  • as far as i know you can only scan it from the app (so on a mobile phone or tablet), i don't think it assumes that most computers have webcams built in. i can't use the barcode scanner on my phone any more as it's android and that crashes the app... back to good ole typing and searching for both of us.
  • after a few workouts with a HRM i checked against the estimated calories burned on mfp. for the time i was 'in the calorie burning zone' according to my HRM (HR between 124 - 163 for me) the mfp calories were accurate enough. e.g. i did a half hour workout but was only 'in the zone' for 20 minutes of that, if i put 20 mins…
  • it helps for me that my bf is happy eating healthier too, so we don't have crisps/chocolate/ice cream etc. in the house and we stopped having pasta/rice/potatoes in the evening ages ago so don't have that. if i do have stuff that i'm likely to binge on (like biscuits), i tend to get myself a serving and put everything away…
  • because i like food :D and because i have the knowledge that i will start the dreaded diet again soon so i need to eat all the foods NOW before that happens haha. this year i'm trying to focus more on weights based exercise and slowly getting back to a better size than focusing on a weight goal. good luck :)
  • good for you staying positive. i lost 50lb over the year in 2011 following mfp calorie guidelines and had white bread and chocolate and all the rest of it. my boss loses a stone or so over the first two months of every year just by cutting out biscuits and beer, nothing else. clean eating may be right for some people but i…
  • from what i understand, strength training on a calorie deficit will lose fat AND muscle. i did a lot of my weightloss on calorie deficit and cardio and now i've switched to strength training and (mainly because it's christmas!) have been eating more than normal. i've been following the Jamie Eason livefit 12 week thing, on…
  • jillian michaels 30 day shred is a goodun, but ignore the '30 day' and just do it 3-4 times a week and progress to the next level when you're ready. also i like the 10 minute solution kickbox dvd - it has 5 different workouts that you can do separately or mix and match. both are around a fiver in the UK on dvd. 30 day…
  • i find that if i'm not in the right frame of mind for it, nothing will make me stop gorging! it helps for me to have healthier options in the house and at work - lots of snacks that aren't going to push you over budget (rice cakes and alpen bars work for me). good luck, hope you get back into that mindset :)
  • 30 from london, with 23lbs to lose. i've lost 15lbs of that before but put it back on etc. feel free to add me - i log each day, even if i have a day off i go back and log it all so i can view my own sabotaging...
  • eating as you are you will lose weight, (e.g. people on lighter life eat 500-600cals a day and lose loads) but it isn't fun, isn't sustainable and quite likely you'll end up having a binge and eating loads (i know i would!) It's good that you've decided to cut out the junk and to eat better in general, but mfp has 1200 as…
  • when i have time off mfp (usually weekends), i go back when i'm next on and log all of it for those days. it makes me realise just how many calories i've eaten, and actually, sometimes it's not as much as i thought it would be. makes me feel more accountable for those bad days. hope you find your way of getting it to work…
  • i used to sit and eat crisps, loads and loads while reading. or watching tv, or anything that just involved my eyes or ears! even now i can't watch tv without doing something else. it's like my hands get antsy! i do think that if you have a problem with snacking and tv you shouldnt cut tv out altogeher, but change what you…
  • definitely still had the weird idea that i wasn't as big as i was, that maybe the clothes sizes were wrong. definitely get some photos of you now as you'll be able to use them for comparison when your weight gets lower. i'm suprised when i look back at photos when i was 40lb heavier. at the time i thought i looked like i…
  • hello! i don't have fibromyalgia but if you go to the community section and do a search for it, it will bring up all the posts from other people who've mentioned it. this is how i found the hypothyroidism group!
  • amazing, well done you! and happy birthday for thursday :)
  • i was considered fat at school by classmates at secondary school, and have always considered myself an overweight person because my mum is overweight (like, it's not my fault it's GENETICS!) my weight has fluctuated with an average of 175, but getting up to 208 and down to 162 (and going up and down a few times) but saying…
  • i lost 50lbs a couple of years ago and then put most of it back the next year. i found that because people kept saying i looked good, i didn't need to bother any more and i like food! maybe you had such a good feeling when you were losing the weight your mind is subconciously trying to get you back to 'big' so you can be…
  • are you logging the exercise and eating back those calories? 5lb in 4 weeks is still losing over a pound a week, the more weight i lose the slower it is to come off. also take measurements as you may find that your weight is staying the same but you're still getting smaller.
