Quote: "People working out and minding their business" I know, I know. I try. But sometimes it's so hard! I guess people watching at the gym sometimes just helps to keep it from getting too boring. This reminds me that a friend of mine was complaining to me about people who read while working out. He said, "If you can read…

That used to happen to me all the time, but has stopped. I found that it was more likely to happen on certain ellipticals, and I stopped using them for a while. Then I tried them again, and it doesn't happen anymore. Maybe my posture has changed? I do know that I'm more likely to move my feet more naturally, now that I've…

My favorite homemade granola is sweetened with frozen apple juice.

Love them. I prefer to use the naked cutlets and cut them up, the texture seems better to me, for some reason, than the ones that come as bits. Naked cutlets are awesome for work and for hot nights when you don't want to turn the oven on, because they cook just as nicely in the microwave as they do in the oven. I use them…

I like sandwiches for dinner when it's too hot to cook. Avocado, pepperjack, lettuce. Good enough right there. If you like vegetarian 'meats' the morningstar farms bacon cooks up quite nicely in the microwave (gets crispy), and is a nice addition. Rye bread with swiss cheese, sauerkraut, mustard or horsradish. Add cold…

Most new mfp-ers go to the main page for the message boards, and would never notice stickies anyway. There is no harm in asking questions that have beena asked before. We were all new once.

Kph x 0.621371=Mph x 1 hr/60 minutes you are walking 4-6kph. so on days you walk 2km, you are doing about 2.5 miles per hour for 30 minutes. On days you walk three, you are walking 3.5-ish milesper hour for 30 minutes.

I normally don't eat fish, but once a year, I eat salmon at my mom's. What everyone above said about foil and skin, and then she just smears some miso paste on it before she puts it in the oven. To die for.

do you have a microwave?

zinc! cold-eeze brand works well.

I don't think I've ever had it on it's own. I've been trying to get it out of my diet, but it's in almost everything!

Please read this first! http://ran.org/sites/default/files/po_factsheet.pdf And this http://ran.org/tripa-expose Rainforest deforestation by palm oil producers is pushing orangutans to extinction.

Last night I went to the NBA draft. I ate nachos! They were amazing. To log them, I went to the food database, and clicked through all of the nachos to get a ballpark idea for calories. They ranged from 300-1500~. I ate about half, considered the ingredients, felt how full I was compared to normal and then....guessed. I…

Two great cookbooks, I use them daily. Both explain how to clean and prepare each type of veg, the seasonings that go well with them, and then give a variety of recipes. Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, by Deborah Madison and How to Cook Everything Vegetarian, by Mark Bittman.

There are very, very, very few foods that don't fit into a vegetarian diet: beef, pork, chicken and fish. Everything else is vegetarian! You must enjoy some of it.

There is a great cookbook called Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, by Deborah Madison. Any kind of veg you can think of, she's got a recipe! But to recommend something you'd like, I'd need more information. What do you like/dislike? Are you just looking for interesting ways to cook veggies? Or are you wanting to try meat…

It's not totally accurate, it's ballpark. But it's better than not tracking at all!

Holy wow! Congratulations! Nice work!

another thought, although it's not the most affordable way to go. most gas stations carry at least a couple of different brands of meal replacement bars now. pack fewer, and buy as you go?
-
Kind bars do pretty well in the heat, since they are mostly nuts and berries.

Incredible!

I wouldn't say it motivates me, but it helps me keep track of my exercise and eating, which helps me feel more like I have control. Having more control is motivating, for me.

What trijoe said! Figure out what works for you, and then stick with that. Don't worry about what other people log. I have mine set to sedentary. I work a desk job, and between the job and the commute, and being exhausted and sitting in front of the computer or boob toob when I get home, I am sitting for at least 11-13…

I dunno. I think there are a lot of folks overreacting here. 1.5 hours of cardio really isn't overexercising. I do more than that every day, even if sometimes it's just walking. On the other hand, you want to make sure that you don't do so much today that you are unable to do any tomorrow. And be careful not to injure…

I haven't hit my target yet, so I can't answer your question, but.... WOW!!! Congratulations!

Woot Woot! Congratulations!

Yes, I can totally relate to what you are saying! It's not just weight-related stuff for me. When people encourage me, it makes me feel exposed and also obligated, and I resent it. It's a frustrating cycle. There are a lot of things in life that we, as individuals, do not have control over. Sometimes, people develop eating…

Also, I think you are setting yourself up for failure by giving yourself way too many restrictions on top of a diet already severely restricted by allergies. Maybe it's time to make some decisions about which goal is really important.

How allergic are you to egg whites? There is a line of vegetarian 'meat' that is made out of something called mycoprotein instead of being soy based. The 'chicken' products are quite good. Some of them do have egg whites in the ingredient list as a binder though. The one I use the most is the naked cutlet: Typical Values 1…
