  • A nice HRM might be more comfortable for you. Polar straps are hard to feel once you've got them on. The wrist ones don't work that well.
  • Its hard to say if its worth it because it varies from person to person. They can give you a sense of how much effort you've put forth in a work out and some sense of caloric expenditure but you also should be careful. Even the very best HRMs only give rough calorie estimates if you've put all information in correctly. VO2…
  • Sure, and while there's no accounting for taste (I've truly just lost my taste for this stuff), like I said, I'm sure they get healthy food too. They really are edge cases that are hard to apply to real life. The problem with these conversations is anyone who says anything bad about fast food is shouted down. Even if, as…
  • I've never had to eat so many calories personally but while you probably would have a difficult (or impossible) time eating 'clean' to get there, I suspect there are some better alternatives. And I wonder if that's all they eat or if there are nutritious meals mixed in there too. I don't think an elite athlete's increased…
  • I wear my fitbit at all times in case I exercise while i'm asleep. Nothing yet!

  • Site name: My Fitness Pal Current forum: Food & Nutrition Wow, we're on a sub-forum dedicated to nutrition of a site dedicated to fitness and people continually trash people who talk about nutrition and its relation to fitness. I can't begin to fathom why people are fat and unhealthy in this country...
  • All food makes you fat. Should probably stop eating anything.
  • Eat less, exercise more.

  • Some people have calorie allotments that are way too low. Or they may not be logging exercise. My friend for a while had a calorie allotment of 1200 but that was extremely aggressive and he could have easily gone over that and still been in a deficit.
  • Yeah, the movie is based off the main plot of the book but there are fairly significant differences. If you read the first 170 pages or so of the book I believe you'll be covered.
  • I'm pretty much almost as awesome as Dashie.
  • Eh, I put in a tablespoon of organic half & half and a single packet of sugar. Its not many calories.
  • I have the same goal. I got 8 a couple years ago but I want 12. I'll be doing some tris this summer I think. But I'm starting this weekend with the Walt Disney Marathon 8)
  • Just keep doing what you're doing. To get better at running you have to just run. When I started a few years ago I could do as much as you could now and within a month I ran a 5K. Now I do half & full marathons. Just takes time and effort! Eventually you'll get to the point where its even fun. 8) Also, read this thread…

  • A few things you can try. I've always been prone to getting them and recently when I started training for my marathon, I was coming from an extended break (I barely ran in 2012) so I was extremely worried since I was going to have a very aggressive training plan. I managed to avoid them though and I did the following: 1.…
  • I don't think I'd risk it. Haven't any of you seen "Gremlins"?
  • Gu is one brand of gel packs. I like Gu personally but there are plenty of brands out there. Basically its just some extra calories during the run to keep you going. Generally eat one every 45 - 60 minutes. They're about 100 cals of sugars and electrolytes. I couldn't survive without it! I do't use any creams myself.
  • QFT. I'm tapering for my marathon this weekend and its driving me nuts. One thing you might want to consider is your equipment for long runs. I run with an Amphipod belt for liquid, and it has a pouch for Gu. Learn how often you need your fuel. Also since your runs are long you'll have to cover a lot of ground and it can…
  • If you aren't in marathon training mode yet, once you start, you will lose weight anyway most likely. I'm running one next weekend and I'm at a BMI of about 23 I believe. For my running I want to get down to about 160 - 165 since I think that will be easier on my body and that would put me at your BMI. I don't know your…
  • LZ is the best laser tag out there! I used to do that back in high school every week. It probably burns a bunch. Less than a run. But its fairly active. Just eat your recommended calories and enjoy having fun ;)
  • We're allowed to tell loved ones to stop smoking or not do other bad habits but losing weight is sacrosanct. Maybe this is why we have such a horrific problem in this country.
  • The reason is that it has always been controversial I think is that many people (and you are definitely not one of these based on this post) treat it as the "One True Way" (tm) and if you don't eat that way you're going to die young. Many of us here eat extremely healthy without being on Paleo and get the same health…
  • At this point, if you're a runner (and that's the only reason to buy the RS300X over another Polar monitor) I wouldn't buy that model as its fairly old. The RCX3 is basically the replacement for the RS300X and the RC3 GPS is probably the best one for runners at this point. The RCX5 is the best for triathletes.
  • Just start drinking it. You really do like water, you just don't think you do.
  • Just don't order everything every time you go.
  • I think subway is pretty gross. The meat is the lowest quality anywhere. Compared to most fast food though its not too bad so in an emergency I can eat it. I've had it once this year and it was as disappointing as I remembered.
  • I rarely have either. Soda is something I only drink at other people's houses or a cup of ginger ale on an airplane. (I don't know why...I like ginger ale when I fly.) Its been a while since I remember when I had any soda though. As for candy, I don't have that very often either. But when I want it, I'm going to eat it. I…
  • I run with a Polar gps watch but I also always have my fitbit on me. I rarely go over my standard allowance anyway. There's no sense in eating exercise calories. That said if you have a day of heavy running its nice to know how much room you have since after running for 2 or 3 hours, your body does need more food than…
