  • I was about to have this rant. One pound of anything is still one pound. Muscle is DENSER than fat, absolutely, but it doesn't "weigh more"
  • Google TDEE calculator
  • Thank you so much for sharing, I'm starting insanity next week (was going to start this week but I've got the flu atm) and it's really motivating to see someone else's results! I'm 5'5 as well, hopefully I'll see equally as fabulous results!
  • First of all I LOVE your hair! :) You look like a totally different person, incredible! You were beautiful before but you look crazy healthier now
  • It's pretty amusing to watch people haviing completely different arguments. Yes if you are at a calorie deficit you will always lose weight. How much of a deficit you need depends on your personal health also. Everyone's right, they just all need to argue haha
  • The first, most important thing that I'm going to advise you to do is to consult with a psychologist. Honestly, the odds are that your eating and weight issues are emotional, and the only real way to get to the bottom of it is going to be with the help of a professional. You are self sabotaging, and there's probably a…
  • I had three tablespoons of peanut butter today, eating nuts is a good idea though. Cheese might be alright, I try to avoid dairy because it makes me feel yucky (I have an issue with the lactose). Condiments are a good idea, I've conditioned myself to use as few empty calories as I can, but even oils are easy to add into…
  • Awesome thanks everyone for the replies :) I'm probably going to do insanity again (I was going to start p90x but decided that the cardio fat burning purpose of insanity is probably a better step before the muscle building and well-rounded program that is p90x.) and I figure that when you're doing max interval training a…
  • Perfect, thank you! I may consider going with setting my goal to what I plan to consume anyway so that it stays consistent but I'm glad to know the macros adjust according to calories burned
  • Guess I should've read the whole question. I just posted the first two links that came up in a google search. I agree with PP that said you should set your protein according to your weight OR your LBM, weight is easy enough. Weight x1-1.2 for women that want to build muscle. Maybe do some research on your own accord and…
  • You know what, that one is geared for men especially, read this instead http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/determining-your-body-type.html

  • Agreed, keeping your bodyweight under 85% of the expected minimum clinically classifies you as still very much anorexic. Please please PLEASE don't start lifting, please stop working out in general, and see a doctor. Get on a meal plan. You need to gain until a bmi of about 20 before you should even consider lifting or…
  • Definitely don't drink diet pop.. aspartame has been linked to some pretty serious diseases.
  • I agree with the post above, no one eats raw chicken. And by the way.. 3 ounces is still 3 ounces. It will be about the size of your palm if you've average sized hands. A 100 calorie portion of meat protein is generally close to the same size. (Or so I'm told, I don't eat the stuff)
  • Former anorexia sufferer here. You need to eat more. Like, 1000 calories a day more. Or you will end up hospitalized and obsessed. Trust me. Add a 500 calorie smoothie to the start of your day for breakfast and double your portion sizes, something. This is serious. You are clearly deluded if you think you eat meals and are…
  • This! Carbs are not all created equal by the way. Refined carbohydrates are as good as eating refined sugar (as in cookies, enriched white bread/flour/pasta) I'm veggie too, and you need to eat those carbs to get all your nutrients. Carbs are fuel. Carbs are good. Your brain starts to shut down if you don't consume carbs.
  • Omg. Not all sugar is created equal. Fruit digests differently than a cookie and has a far different insulin response. Eat your fruit! Just not like, 15 servings a day. Anything is bad if done excessively. Oh and btw, bananas and grapes have two of the lowest fructose levels of fruit. And bananas are actually berries, not…
  • I would suggest avoiding the processed pre packaged fake burgers and hot dogs.. They're usually 50% wheat gluten and forced protein, not to mention chemicals and fillers. You can make burgers at home with quinoa and veggies that will be healthy and whole. I always make sure my fridge is stocked witht he produce I'm…
  • Exactly. I keep enjoy life chocolate chips in my freezer (they're vegan and gf) and tend to have some with coconut milk ice cream now and again. I'm working on working on my portions though because if I eat mindlessly, I always overdo it
  • So I calculated your TDEE to be about 2300 calories. And your BMR to be about 1500-1600. And no one should ever eat under their BMR! You're 5'8?? Honestly, I don't think you need to lose weight. None of my business, but you're already quite thin.
  • I wish MFP would change that to 14 or 1500 honestly. Most people should eat around 2000 gross calories and so many people subscribe to 1200 calories as a scripture.
  • Yeah this isn't enough info to go on. Are you lifting heavy, aka maxing out at 8 reps per exercise, or doing the aerobic lifting thing (which I don't recommend for anyone) where you do a lot of reps for X amount of time? How much do you eat? What ratio of carbs/fat/protein? What do you weigh? What are your goals? Have you…
  • I like how every thread here turns into a huge egotistical debate. No sarcasm, I'm an at home mom and it's like watching soaps! To answer OP, NO you do not HAVE to count calories. That said, if you're new to nutrition and weight loss, it's probably the best idea until you get a handle on how your body processes foods. If…
  • I'm so sad no one replied to you on this. When I did p90x after a week or two I felt insanely drained. I upped my calories and all was well. You gotta eat more! I was consuming80-100 grams protein, 150 grams carbs. (Estimating here..) You need to eat WAY WAY WAY more carbs if you're seriously only consuming 40 grams.…
  • Yes it is. It's super high intensity but still high intensity intervals. I've done it. I don't really like the way it's set up.. how you do a killer warm up, then stop dead with your heart pounding to stretch, then jump back into it.. Should just save the stretch for the end or do it before you have your heart rate up…
  • Ohmygod please eat more than 1200 calories a day, especially if you're a server and on your feet all day! I worked at a busy restaurant for over a year and ended up underweight for a while because I just wasn't eating enough. IMO you should calculate your TDEE and eat that instead of the MFP minimum. 1200 calories is what…
  • Yes and no.. Comparative to the placebo effect. It sounds like hogwash in this context, but think about the fact that placebo studies have shown that in a blind study, where the patient doesn't know which group they're in, the placebo group sometimes tests as highly as the pharma group (pain medication and the like)
  • I think that it's something worth studying in-depth. A broader study with more control and fewer variables in the test groups. I am a believer in mind over matter (to a degree), however, I also agree that the results of this study were inconclusive and the study seems to have been somewhat poorly executed. Thanks for…
