  • San Pedro right here.
  • I read so many times that HRM are not good for giving calorie burns except for steady paced cardio exercises but since I have no other tool to use to figure out my calorie burn during exercise, I used my HRM during weight lifting (I rarely do cardio, nor do I want to). And I was able to consistently lose weight when that…
  • I'll be getting one of the HR versions of FB once they come out and doing a side by side comparison just like I did with the FB One/Flex. My One has helped me lose 50+ lbs but I know that its not exactly right as I am eating a tad more than what MFP/FB says I should eat and I am still (very slowly) losing weight. I want to…
  • I agree also. According to my Fitbit, I burn about a cal a min at rest. If your wife is burning 200 cals an hour while she is sleeping, she must be a really big gal or has her data points set wrong. It uses a BMR number and adds to it the more steps you make throughout the day. I have been using the FB One for about 16…
  • You can lose weight by diet alone. Eat at a deficit and you will lose. Its easier to do while exercising in my opinion though. More calories to eat  Do you have access to a pool? laps are great. Slow and easy. Walking at a slow pace for 10 mins at a time until you can to 15 mins then 20 etc. You can try body weight…
  • My thoughts exactly. I doubt he is 18 as his profile suggests. If you want the lean/muscular look, you have to build muscles. To build muscles you have to lift heavy weights and eat food to fuel the muscle growth. You get fat when you eat to many calories and dont exercise enough.
  • just ate my daily serving or peanut m&m's and a diet pepsi. damn, I love those things.
  • as already mentioned, most of us are busy people yet we find the "time" to eat far more than 1000 cals a day. If you are truly on the go, you need to pack your food and take it with you. There is no reason in the world that you could not get more food in given how active you say you are. your body needs the calories to…
  • I go to a personal training studio so I pay my trainers hourly rate each session. Because I have been a customer for a long time, I pay $25 for hour long sessions. Best $300 I spend a month.
  • I cant say what is to much for you. I dont have the time to workout as often as you do. I spend 4 hours a week on fitness, you seem to spend at least 10 hours. For me, this is too much. If you have the time, it might be just about right. Though, they say if you are lifting heavy weights, you need to have a rest day in…
  • Congrats on the weight loss! You did great. regarding the belly...same here sister except I never had kids, just fat for to many years. The only way to firm it up at this point is to go under the knife if you want to make it flat. I have been heavy weight lifting for a year now and the belly has not changed all that much.…
  • You cant get "toned" by cardio alone unless you lose your fat and have muscles underneath it. Weight training builds muscle which gives you the "toned" look. Cardio burns fat. There are plenty of people who are skinny fat because they dont spend any time lifting weights. They are slim but look fluffy or squishy. And if you…
  • Its no wonder you are struggling when you think of it is a diet and allow all the negative thoughts to creep in. Just take it day by day and try to remember why you started. And hopefully you will find the path that works for you. I hate dieting also. Well maybe that is not a secret but its true. And I quit dieting 555…
  • Its hard to gain weight rapidly without trying. If this is a short term gain, most likely you are experiencing water retention. This appears like significant weight gain. (after sushi or a night of drinks, I can easily "seem" to have gained 5 lbs but a few days of regular meals and its all gone back to normal). This is…
  • I have been using the FB for about 18 months and hit maintenance about 8 months ago. I find that its pretty accurate in that if I am really active i get more cals to eat and if I am less active, I eat less. Its easier for me to maintain this way than having a set cal goal every day. I have been still losing a little bit…
  • I use a FB One for my day to day living and a Polar FT60 for when I am exercising. The FB gets my calories pretty close to my daily burn and when I enter the cals from my workout, that time frame gets overridden so there is no double count of the calories. When I was losing, using the two devices really helped me lose. I…
  • FB Customer service is great but I doubt it is that great. I have had them replace a device for me when lost or broken but never upgraded one. I have a friend who was upgraded from the Ultra to the One but that was because the Ultra was no longer available.
  • Yes, I am down 78 lbs which is about 35% of my original weight. Yep, every day still requires working at maintenance. I get to eat more and I get to eat more "treats" but I still have to watch it otherwise I can easily slip back to my old ways. Yes, I log in every day and am running a `~525 streak right now. I work out 4…
  • ... to the bathroom, especially after baked beans.
  • I have the FB One. It was the key to helping me get the calorie counts right for the entire day. I love it and have no regrets about buying it. I am down 75 lbs and know that it would not have happened as easily as it did without the FB. For full disclosure, I use MFP for keeping track of cal in (weight all my foods and…
  • Does Map My Fitness record a start time on MFP? Does it cross to FB's dashboard? If so, Map My Fitness will override what FB senses that you did. So long as the exercise you do lists a start time and a duration that you did the activity, it will override FB for that time.
  • I sure hope that I can stop but its been 6 months since I hit my goal and I still dont trust myself to stay on track all the time. I can do pretty well but I am sure that if I dont have a counter to look at, i will screw it up.
  • The rice did you in. nearly 200 cals. For that many cals, I would eat more chicken. It will fill you up longer and tastes better than rice. Are you sure you had one serving of cheese? That is a lot of cheese for 2 oz of chicken. I usually do corn tortillas which are 110 for 2 tortillas.
  • If you are not losing, you need to eat less. Its really that simple. (unless there is an undiagnosed medical condition) Log your food and count your calories. Try it for 4-6 weeks. Be religious about it and see where you are. Its totally tedious but I have been maintaining for 7 months and counting cals is the only way I…
  • the Fitbit is only good for estimating your calories burned during step based activities (hiking, walking, running dancing). Nothing more than that. If you did another workout that increased your heart rate but barely move your feet, your FB is not going to determine that. A heart rate monitor will do that. I have been…
  • I use a heart rate monitor to determine my calories burned during exercise. I also have a fitbit that determines my calories all day long and is pretty good at estimating cals burned for step based activities. Without either of these devices or something similar, you can enter the cals burned in the exercise tab here on…
  • main thing to remember no matter where you but especially when at the gym. YOU ARE THERE FOR YOU!!! Not anyone else. Do your thing. Sport the moobs until you have pecks that you can flex. Then when the next guy comes in and has moobs, you can tell him that he has a friend in you because you have walked in his shoes. Take…
  • I started out walking. A little every day. Soon I was walking farther. Then I was walking uphill. Then I was hiking the trails. I still do not run unless I am being chased and even then, I would weigh the seriousness of the chase before I would decide to run. Once you are up to it and able, throw some weight training in.…
  • If you have fat on your stomach, you have fat on the rest of your body. There is no way to spot reduce. Fat comes and goes where it wants and you have to eat a calorie deficit and get some strength training in (to not lose as much muscle) and eventually, after a very slow process, some of the fat will go away. On your…
