OP - when I was your weight (more actually, at 340) I started walking and when walking became unchallenging, I began the c25k program. I started it when I was 290 pounds. I'm not advising you to wait to lose weight before beginning a running routine, just sharing my experience basically to let you know that the "you can't…

There's a broga (their term) studio near me, for dudes to do yoga. Having just started yoga 2 weeks ago, I have to say the main appeal is the F:M ratio. This notion that men lift because they build muscle and women do yoga because they're flexible makes me laugh. I guaran-dam-tee there are more men doing yoga world wide…

I think a big factor is also starting weight. For example (#humblebrag coming) I've gotten a lot more comments from 200 to 190 pounds than I did from 340 to 330. It's not exactly high level math to show that 10/200 > 10/340 so more noticeable at the lower weight for the same drop, in terms of pounds.

U2 and the Talking Heads ruled the 80s for me. Their albums of that era (on into the 70s for the Heads) are some of the finest ever produced. Has anyone mentioned "My Sharona" from The Knack yet? No, it wasn't made in the 80s, but I consider it the first 80s song. Other favorites of mine (I'm off topic and discussing…

A Memphis style rib and Texas style beef brisket. Why? Because it was in the fridge, left over from last night and I was hongry.

Silver Surfer. Because of the Power Cosmic, even though he's a tad emo.

If you have a process that's working, then keep following it until you see a sustained period of a lack of results. A one time, one pound (or .5 kg) fluctuation is absolutely irrelevant. A gain of 1 kg per week for 3 weeks is an occasion to rethink your process. Stepping on the scale once and seeing a blip? Ignore. As to…

After being pulled over for speeding last week, the officer suspected I was using a false identification at first before he accepted that I had lost a lot of weight from my license photo. If you're wondering, he ended up giving me a warning, I think the weight loss played some small role in his decision to not give a full…

So Couric's show should only be about topics she is an expert on? That's never been a requirement for documentaries before, not sure why it would be now. I'll watch this because it's a topic that's of interest to me and I have an open mind to see the various viewpoints presented.

Good job brutha, I completely agree with the cycle you mentioned. I think there's an opposite weight gain cycle too but you're on the right track. Keep at it!

I am shocked it took 3 pages for someone to finally say this. Though this is my vote for worst, I can see why some folks mention Moxie or Vernors. I also see someone mentioned a soda from the Coke museum that's served in Italy. That's actually my A#1 worst,

I never ever ever go to Subway. There are literally dozens of sandwich shops within a 1/2 mile radius of my local Subway, all of them owned locally and they use higher quality meats, breads and cheeses. I won't even go to cash in on a free sandwich there (I happened to come across a coupon yesterday, threw it out).

Civ V is still my game of choice too. I've got a Steam inventory of about a dozen games I haven't played yet but I still click on Civ. ICYMI, at Pax East this past weekend they announced the new series "Beyond Earth", not a Civ expansion either. More of a sequel to Alpha Centauri I think.

In southern Africa, I had something named Chibuku. The best, most generous adjective I have for it: chunky.

Anybody see the Space Ghost C2C episode with Shatner? He was able to find common ground between the Trek and Wars franchises: ========================================== William Shatner: There was a, there's a great deal of similarity between Star Wars and Star Trek, I've gotta admit. Moltar: Like what? William Shatner:…

Any dude that requires a love of Rush from his woman is going to lead a lonely life. Their concerts are the biggest sausage fests around. For the record, I love Rush.

Historically, whenever I respond to a Fitbit thread, it's to counter the overwhelming "yay" responses with a "meh" (not nay though). However I've come to appreciate what it does well - track everyday non-exercise activity. That is, walking. If you're looking for it to track heavy exercise, as a poster upthread did, well…

Well done! I'm now on a mission to find that Thor shirt for myself.

This is when a Fitbit come in handy. I don't ever have to log walking because if I do happen to burn enough calories walking in a day, the Fitbit will capture that data without my logging it.

Great job, great patience, sticking to this for 3 years is impressive. Now I have to go Google whatever a Frog-o-sphere is.

Although I have a slight preference for dairy, I use almond milk exclusively these days because: 1) I can save 40-60 calories. More accurately I can reallocate those calories to something I enjoy more than even milk. 2) A half gallon container of almond milk will get completely used whereas the same volume of dairy will…

He may be OP, as the power cosmic pretty much trumps anything else short of the cosmic heavyweights, but Silver Surfer is easily my favorite.

I fit the profile of what the OP is looking for. I'm in the 40-50 age bracket, lost whatever my ticker says now (135ish I think) in almost a year and have no loose skin, nada. There aren't many things that make me say "thanks ma and pa for the genes" but for this, I am grateful. A year ago when I started this fitness…

Pacific Rim, both times on an IMAX screen. I regret nothing.

That's an awesome start! Don't worry about "is it too easy" until it feels like it's too easy. A year ago a 1/2 mile walk would cause me to sit down and rest for a minute to catch my breath and lower my heart rate. Today I ran 10k. Walking was how I started.

I too started on day 1, where I saw my HR skyrocket to 150 bpm after 15 minutes of walking 2.5 mph on the treadmill. There are 2 options: 1) No one cares what you're doing (most likely) 2) Someone cares. In this case, why should you? Let me flip this around, if you are concerned about what others think, then you can look…
