I have a very hard time meeting my protein goal each day and I'm trying to build muscle so I try to do a protein shake each day. I blend it with soy or almond milk, frozen banana & ice. Sometimes I'll add pb or espresso powder. It really fills me up.

You may need to learn to accept it. I was overweight for a long time, had 2 babies close together (one 10lbs), and know I will always have a bit of excess tummy skin. I'm ok with it. Lifting is helping everything look better (almost have abs!) but I don't think anything but surgery would get rid of my extra skin. I'm also…
-
Yup. This is what I did when my babies were little. Hiking/walking w them in a carrier, then running when they were big enough to be in the jogging stroller.

I love this program! It's been so easy for me to implement as a beginner to lifting. I don't have any good pics now but it's really amazing how fast I'm noticing improvement. Newb gains, I guess.

Congrats on your loss. I do Strong Lifts 3x a week. No cardio other than jumping w my kids on the trampoline for a bit most days.
-
Now I want movie theater popcorn :|

I use this, it's good if blended with a milk alternative & banana. You need to blend it in a blender though, otherwise it's gross: http://www.costco.com/Vega-Protein-and-Greens-Vanilla-Flavor.product.100159637.html

Looks great, I'll give them a try :)

Are you cleared for yoga? I know, weird for recomp but there are so many bodyweight poses and it's gentle. Also, what about TRX? Just some ideas for stregnth that are not heavy lifiting.

In school, I lived on carrots dipped in peanut butter. Healthy, inexpensive & filling. Also egg & spinach scrambles.
-
No I don't do any purposeful cardio atm, but I'm pretty active in general and jump on the trampoline w my kids most days. Just doing strong lifts.

Chipotle or how about all of the taqueria's? They should be great for paleo, all the meat...
-
Lol, no protein!

I'm newer to SL 5x5 and don't do any cardio but I'm trying to recomp and not drop anymore weight. I suggest you look at http://stronglifts.com/5x5/ if you haven't already. He's got a lot of info on there.

Thank u!

5'8" Started around 200 after 2nd child. Now 136 and doing a slow recomp.

Met with the trainer today and he gave me some really helpful feedback on my form. He still doesn't think I should continue with SL without first doing his program but I just told him that's what I'm doing for now. I do appreciate the comments here that helped me stick to my guns... and hopefully I'll grow some ;)

I also enjoy yoga on rest days. I usually end up in vinyasa classes which are great for rest days.
-
I believe I used to get that more when I didn't do a proper warm up, ie, started running too fast too quickly. If I jogged slowly for a while, it wouldn't happen.
-
This thread took a bit of a turn. I appreciate those that confirm that SL is fine for me to continue with. I'm in pretty good shape and have good balance and mobility (& no injuries) so I'm confident that SL is the right program for me at this time.
-
Thanks for all the feedback guys, I do believe he's an experienced trainer & knows what he's talking about. I don't want to discount everything he says but will probably stick w SL for the time being. He did talk about muscle confusion that's not scientifically proven right?
-
You're right. Thank you.
-
I'm confused. That's a bone.
-
True but I still love this program. Simple, effective way better than NROLFW imo.

I'm in artichoke & garlic country, so fried artichokes and garlic fries!

I've wasted LOTS of time in gyms. First, I'd look up beginning lifting programs (like New Rules of Lifting for Women and Strong Lifts) and also some HIIT ideas. You don't have to spend much time, but be smart about it. It took me a long time to learn this.

I just wanted to write an update to this post. Thank you for all of the feedback. I finally started lifting again today and it felt so good! I started with an empty bar and added weights slowly. I felt a lot stronger than I thought I would but not close to the weights I was at 2 months ago. I'm looking forward to getting…
-
Yeah I am very concerned about safety, as much as I miss the barbell, I think I'll start with bodyweight exercises and dumbells.
-
Thank you so much for the advice. Exercise has been a big part of my life and lifting really empowered me through these last tough months. I do agree that exercise will help me sleep and improve my mental state so I may start with just moving rather than jump back into the lifting program.

Beautiful! The deer (& slugs, I think) really love mine so I have a hard time keeping it around.
