Great job. I don't remember my first mile time. but suffice it to say that it was SLOW. Keep on pushing and let us know when you reach your next milestone.

You can definitely see a major difference. Congrats!!! You are well on your way. If those are the kind of results that you're getting, then keep doing what you're doing.
-
Wow, that is one tough hill to climb. Congrats on heading in the right direction. Also, thanks for the information and advice on sleep.

I still eat quite a bit of junk. I enjoy it too much to give it up completely, but I do try to avoid sweets and sodas. I exercise a whole lot to make up for some of the bad stuff that I eat. I'm committed to being both happy and healthy and at present, the way I do things works fine for me. I've also lost about 30 pounds…

Bicycle crunches are supposed to be the best at working the various muscles that make up your abdominals. I personally love various plank positions Remember, the most important aspect is your diet. Abs are built at the kitchen table more so than on the floor.

Great job on the PR. It sure is a nice time of the year for a good, long run.

You have come to the right place. A lot of people have lost a lot of poundage here. Best of luck chiseling up for both your wife and yourself.

I just did my first half last weekend in Nashville and it was a challenging, but wonderful experience. I plan on running a 15-miler in West Virginia in early September followed by a half in middle Tennessee in October. Best of luck to all.

Great cause!!! Good luck in your 1/2.

I can drink beer!!! Why the hell didn't someone say something before now?

Nanas, taters, o.j.

Thanks to all for the well-wishes and the advice. Things went very well as far as I am concerned. The course was brutal according to the experienced marathoners that I talked to both just prior to the race and just afterward, very hilly. I had sore feet and the fact that approximately 30,000 people ran complicated matters…

I am running in my first one Saturday and have some of the same concerns. Commit to upping your training runs and commit to finishing the half. That's all the advice this novice has. The reason that I think I'll get over the hump is because I am determined to. Best of luck.
-
I sent you a friend request which presumably you declined and I can't see a thing. Anyway, as DanOhh said, it's all about getting what you need out of this. I wouldn't worry too much about grown men's hurt feelings.
-
I've run into that problem quite a bit in training. Trust me, my "nips" are going to be pretty darn greasy by race time. Thanks so much to everyone for the encouragement and the tips. I'll let everyone know how I did when I get back home for the race Saturday.
-
Thank you for the advice. I'll take all of that I can get. Energy Beans and GU Chomps, where can I find them?
-
Thanks for the encouragement, guys. And in answer to one of the questions, the most I have run is 12. I will have the benefit of hydrating along the way as well as carb-loading the night before and jelly beans or something akin toward the end. I have had none of that in my training runs.

You should go eat.
-
Go Lean cereal. . .then go potty.
-
Lace 'em up. Best of luck with the job.

My wife had the same problem. She just kept at it. The dumbbell flies will also help you progress to the point where you will be able to do them. I agree with Kaurine that you shouldn't focus too much on keeping up with Jillian and friends. Just try to squeeze out as many as you can and build up from there. Best of luck.

Figure out what healthy foods you like, then plan your meals meticulously. Taking the time to pack a nutritious lunch a day in advance helps me to avoid the ole "I don't feel like cooking" excuse that usually precedes a trip to McDonald's. Like sugar, greasy foods seem to have an additive quality to them so once you've…

There are a few of us males around here. I'm new here, but I've dropped about 30 lbs in the last 7 months or so. This site has helped me get over a tough plateau. Anyway, if you two use all that the site has to offer, then you will definitely lose weight. It's a nice thing to do together as well. My wife and I are on the…

This site is a great resource for both tracking your intake and also for support from like-minded folks. Welcome aboard and best of luck to both you and your hubby.

I feel for those who have had a tough week, I certainly have myself. I had almost made it to my weight goal with months of hard work and then came mega-stress at work and I starting eating everything that I could get my hands on. I'm several pounds heavier, but back on track now. Gotta say thanks a lot to my friend Amber…

I don't know about the fruit or eating in general since I haven't modified any of that. Concentrating on forcefully breathing and exhaling when my left foot hits has stopped side stitches completely for me.
-
I was plagued by side stitches as well. The problem is with your breathing. Make sure that you are breathing very deeply to the point where you are audible. I read somewhere that when you run hard your diaphragm can get in the wrong place if your aren't inhaling and exhaling properly. There is some serious jostling going…

You're crazy, girl. There is a definite change. Keep up the good work.

In my opinion, you are going fast enough. In fact, your caloric intake seems a bit too low for all the exercise you get though you did not list duration of your workouts. If you get too few calories, then your body will go into shutdown mode and conserve fat because it thinks that there is some kind of a famine going on…

Wow! That had to be a real shock to your joints. You really hit the ground running, so to speak. That's a heck of a lot of focus and determination. Congrats, on sticking to your plan and gaining better health and confidence as a result. Oh and I have recently grown to love running too. Once it gets in your blood, it can…
