Not an expert on this, but anecdotally some people with hypothyroidism seem to do better with a keto diet (https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/search?q=hypothyroidism&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all) For a more rigorous case study, here is an interesting case about a morbidly obese patient with Hashimoto's Disease whose…

Bowel movements don't need to be everyday. Everyone is different and a change in diet can completely change your bowel movements. Before I started dieting, I would go everyday. After I started my diet, I was worried because I didn't go for about three days and that wasn't normal for me. On the fourth day, I finally had to…

What kind of snacks do you usually have? It's been getting more rare for me to have cravings at night, I might just be getting used to it. But when I do snack, I have between 2-3 cheese sticks. I figure it's not so bad since they are basically full of protein. My suggestion is choose better snacks if you're snacking on…

It sounds like you're really trying, so I hope things work out for you. Here are a few of my thoughts on the hurdles that you're facing. Affordability of healthy food: I know what it's like to be worry about money. Healthy food usually doesn't have to cost a lot though - I currently spend on average of $3-$5 per day on…

HIIT is optimal to burn fat and boosts your metabolism so that you burn more calories after your workout. It's good for optimizing time. It's difficult though, increases the risk of injury, and may deter people from doing more workouts because they were so tired from their HIIT session... I think it's better to do what…

I think your mom is right though - limiting your sugars and carbs seems to help a lot of people with fat loss since its so easy to fill up on them. Not to mention sugar is bad for your teeth (especially soda) and can desensitize some of your hormones eventually... I eat a the fruit equivalent to a peach a day and I'm fine…

Yes. Calories in, calories out is the golden rule. The hard part is limiting the calories in - although it helps to eat foods that are naturally satiating such as proteins and veggies. Some people can limit calories easily, others have difficulty... Here's a story about a man who had a "twinkie" diet and ate nothing but…

You explained it pretty well to me. I mostly feel that the main problem is sensationalism of the media. There just isn't strong enough evidence which would need to come from well-designed studies.

You've made some really good changes, good to hear another one quited smoking too!

Never seen a Jillian Michaels DVD before, but sometimes when my circuit training calls for jumping jacks or high knees running in place, I feel like I can substitute chair step ups to get a similar rise in heart rate... Maybe you can substitute some of the louder exercises on the DVD like I do.

What is an example of a hard chest strap and a light chest strap? I have a garmin forerunner 405, anyone know if this uses a hard chest strap or soft chest strap?

IIFYM = If it fits your macros ~ pretty much try to get > 140g of protein per day, then split the rest between fats and carbs, but I give healthy fats more preference. Also count all the food calories, and as much exercise calories as possible.

I make a lot of slow cooked chicken dishes. 5 lbs of chicken at a time, usually enough for ten servings which should last about a week. Search for taco slow cooked chicken on YouTube and you'll probably find one of my favorite dishes so far. Make it, put it in tupperware, put in freezer, when you're ready to eat just pop…
