  • i like 1-2 hard boiled eggs, or a few good sized bites of tuna or chicken salad on 2-3 seed crackers. my husband likes to mash some avocado into tuna fish. you could also try to adding more protein/removing added sugars from your lunch and see if it gets you through to dinner without needing a snack.
  • FAVORITE: my stand mixer; i use it many times a week (and i am not a baker of breads or cakes, etc); i use it for prepping all kinds of foods and recipes (shredding meat, putting together tuna/chicken/egg salads, mixing spices into ground meat, whisking eggs, etc.). Next favorites: my handheld blender and air fryer,…
  • a year ago i started my weight loss journey at 160 lbs, and lost weight rapidly (was 145 lbs within 3-4 months), primarily by cutting out all added sugars/processed foods and eating whole foods. (i did whole30 for one month and then added rice, beans, corn, and moderate alcohol back into my diet). like one of the…
  • My husband and I cut out added sugars last January as a part of Whole30 and after the 30 days, we decided to keep added sugars our of our diet moving forward. While we do make exceptions for special occasions/dining elsewhere, we adjusted all of our groceries to no-sugar-added products and don't cook with any added sugars…
  • I think it's important to know that the US Dietary Guidelines used to also be a maximum of 6 teaspoons per day until the Sugar Industry lobbyists screamed loud enough about it that our government gave in and doubled the amount. That 12.5 number has nothing to do with science, medicine, or healthy consumption levels. I…
  • Congratulations! I did dry January and decided to also do Whole30 (since the no-alcohol part always kept me from trying before), I also lost 11 lbs. Wohooo!
  • i'm doing whole 30 (round 1 day 10) and my husband and i are loving it. i am trying all sorts of new recipes and we're definitely finding things we'll want to keep eating after the round is up. the whole30 recipe book/site has some we've loved (seared pork chop with spiced applesauce was amazing, the chicken cacciatore is…
  • i've been doing low carb for 4 weeks, and have averaged 2 lbs per week.
  • No need to rush through your cheese. I've made blocks of cheese last many, many days while in the backcountry (without refrigeration), and the harder the cheese, the longer you can go without refrigeration. Just seal it up really well to keep air from getting it between meals.
  • That is HUGE for a former smoker! Congrats! I can do .5 in a row now, too, and it feels so good!
  • After 28 years of smoking, I quit one year and 17 days ago at the age of 43, and all I can say is it is SO WORTH IT. High Five to all of you who are contemplating that journey or have taken that journey. One of the greatest benefits I've found (beyond the obvious health ones) is that I've lost the constant need to leave a…
  • for me it's good, dark seasonal beer and the snacks and finger foods - both savory and sweet - that happen over the holidays. i could live off of finger foods. meatballs, cheese and crackers, chips and dips, baked dips, dessert bits... mmmm, i love them. although, to give myself a little credit, i like the veggie tray, too…
  • patience and persistence are key. a couple weeks is not long enough in a consistent, persistent routine to know what will work long term for your body. -determine your daily calorie goal using the app on MFP -track all of your food every day -track all of your exercise every day -do exercise of some sort every day -start…
  • basic rule of thumb that i was always told by my doctor is that for every inch you are over 5 feet, you add five pounds to 100 to get to the target "fit" weight for your height, with about 5 pounds of leeway on either side for individual build/muscle mass so, if you go according to this, at 5'11", 155 pounds would be the…
  • beer shocker: my favorite specialty holiday brew, 214 colories per bottle. so sad. so so sad. juice: also a big shocker for me. i started eating instead of drinking my fruit, and it made a HUGE difference. bread: i love bread, so i hated accepting the fact that my penchant for dinner rolls added hundreds of calories to a…

  • yes, there is definitely a weight where i feel like myself and now that i'm 41 i have vowed to be more vigilant throughout the winter months so that i don't stay on the roller coaster ride i've been on for the past few years (and yes, losing is definitely harder now than it was 10 years ago). i've never had problems with…
  • people with excellent muscle tone might weigh more, but they will often fit into smaller clothes than people who weigh the same but have no muscle tone. don't worry about the number, stay focused on being fit and you will achieve the best body for you.
  • logging your calories, if even for just a month, isn't obsessive, it's a learning tool, and it works. it takes the mystery out of weight loss, and if i read your question correctly, that is basically what you are looking to do: take the mystery out of weight loss. if you want to understand the relationship between food,…
  • i weigh every morning, but i only record new losses, i don't record upwards fluctuations. fluctuations happen all week long and i'm not someone who gets demotivated by them. i don't measure body fat. i just try to judge what's happening there with the way my clothes fit. i don't know how tall you are or what your build is,…
  • In April I was 12 lbs from my goal, and my settings are pretty close to yours, although I usually exercise off 275 - 625 kcal, 5 days per week and usually net between 1300-1400. I have lost an average of 2 pounds per month.
  • really inspiring! congratulations on your success and your pregnancy!
  • i agree, at 275, i think you need to eat more calories per day. and remember, getting fit is first and foremost a test of persistance and patience. don't ask yourself why you gained a pound today. ask yourself, "did I do what i needed to do today to be healthier and fitter than i was yesterday?" if the answer is yes, then…
  • whether you want to eat six times per day or three, personally i think the best "first step" to changing your relationship with food is any program that teaches portion control, i.e. weight watchers. that type of program doesn't restrict any food, and it is also a great motivator for switching in healthier food choices…
  • i drink corona light with lots of lime. i can have 2 of these and not feel like i broke the bank because the calories are so low. also, the most bang for your beer-flavor buck will always be guiness with only 125 calories per can.
  • I love carbs but certain ones cause inflammation of my digestive tract (even though i'm not allergic to gluten). in one meal I can go from a flat stomach to looking like i'm 5-6 months pregnant, swollen all the way up to my sternum. I haven't cut them out completely, and won't because I love certain foods too much, but…
  • I just went on vacation and am the same weight that i was before I went for the first time ever! did loads of walking, and because we had a kitchen/fridge where we stayed, I made sure I went to the store and bought the things I normally eat for both breakfast and lunch (my family is notorious for big breakfasts and…
  • I still have weight to lose, but mine went flat when I cut most bread/wheat/pasta products out of my daily diet. I'll still eat that stuff (because YUM) but I try to keep it down to 1 meal a day and when I do eat it, keep the portions of it down. turns out my round belly was way more about digestive tract inflammation than…
  • one of the problems with cottage cheese (which i love) is that it is also very high in sodium/salty, which causes bloating from fluid retention (and is different from the bloating of your digestive tract). i don't really know of a good replacement that would be like cottage cheese, but maybe check out a low-sodium variety?…
