It is aerial silks! I also do pole and Lyra! Love it! My instructor is 45 too, btw. ;-)

Not quite 40, but I am 38 and also in the best shape of my life. Lifting weights rocks!

I think the only thing that interested me in this article was the note that increased meal frequency tend to lead to increased hunger. I've often wondered about that. I wait to eat breakfast until 10 or so (I get up at 6 a.m.) and have found I'm only really hungry once I start to eat. I naturally eat several small meals a…

I can barely stand chicken breasts. I always eat thighs. A huge thigh would be 6 oz and only about 210 calories. I get 180 calories for the same amount of chicken breast (boneless, skinless, pre-cooked, btw). Really, you're worried about so few calories? Thighs are juicy and yummy with just a little salt and pepper. Can't…

Calories are pretty much the end-all for weight loss. However, I know I prefer to fill my diet with veggies, meat, fruit, and a little dairy just because I like to eat food. Less processed food tends to give you more calorie bang for your buck. Heck, I spent my entire life at a healthy weight eating crap. I'm still a…

Waist hooping is more of a rocking, back and forth motion. Most people try to roll their hips or do hip circles. Try turning with the hook (in the same direction) if it starts to fall.

I'm 130 lbs and I lose weight on 1800 calories/day. And you look much younger than I am. I hate to jump on the Eat More bandwagon, but you shouldn't have to eat so little to maintain your weight. Unless you are tiny and completely sedentary. My BMR alone is about 1380 calories/day... IMO, I'd recheck your calories. I know…

I just chose the first city too. I'm sure that's throwing off their data collection. It should ask for height, but I do believe most of us see ourselves bigger than we are.

Watch the tonic, it has a ton of calories. Otherwise, I don't have a lot of advice. I'm not as young as you (I could actually be your mom), but I still like to go out for drinks and food, and often overdo it. I'm not trying to lose weight, but I can maintain 128 lbs going out 2x a week or so by eating at a deficit on most…

Have you looked into what contortionists do? All the contortionists I know do a balance of strength and flexibility training because they need both. Aerialists that are also contortionists have to be really careful because certain wraps and poses can easily fold them into a compromising position. I assume the same could be…

I'm always shocked when people take notice of my eating habits, or make weird comments about them. Yes, I eat a lot, and frequently. Yes, I cook at work. Yes, I'm lean. No, I do not want a doughnut. So, it does go both ways.

Great post! I'm always happy to see ladies not afraid to eat and lift! No one should ever starve themselves...

I would say yes. I don't do a ton of yoga (we do some of the poses you mention as warm-up), but I'm an aerialist, and squats and deadlifts have improved my aerial work quite a bit. I primarily do silks in my aerial work, and core stability is essential. You certainly can't get upside down without it, and many poses/drops…

No one asks me for nudes. I must be hiiiiideeeeous!

I have days where I overeat all the time. Friday was a huge calorie day for me. I probably drank at least 1200 calories. Relax. Unless it becomes a habit, it isn't a big deal.

I have to agree with this. I lift heavy, and do a little mountain biking here and there, but I wouldn't say I work extremely hard. But I'm pretty lean and healthy too.

Remove a limb. I'd estimate your left leg weighs about 35 lbs...

Thanks for that video link! I've been doing them the first way. Funny, because rows are fairly easy for me. But I do a ton of aerial, so my back and lats are really strong. I struggle with Bench (stuck at 85 lbs) and OHP (currently 60 lbs). My squats aren't that awesome, even though they're the exercise I've focused on…

I definitely think the perception of "normal" has changed as we've gotten bigger as a country. Clothing sizes definitely reflect that. I'm 5'5", 130 lbs, and 19% body fat (measured by BodPod). I am fairly lean, but my BMI is 21.6 -- right smack in the middle of healthy. Yes you can see my ribs and collar bones. You can…

I can handle whey in very small amounts. I don't have a particular issue with dairy though. The hemp protein powder is less of a problem. Also different whey proteins are different. Target brand bothers me less than Body Fortress.

Yep. It's what I do.

Unfortunately, I don't know that there's much advice besides avoiding getting to the point of tipsy that you no longer care. For me, that's after 3 drinks. Right at the point where I start to feel pretty good, haha. Anyway, if it's only once or twice a month, don't worry about it. If it's every Friday or Saturday, it could…

This is so true! Pole started me on my aerial fitness journey. Four years later, I can easily bust out some pull-ups. It's the pole hold that really develops the lats. You can do the same basic exercise on a pull up bar (holding yourself up, arms bent, chin over bar), and negatives (lowering slowly from the hold position).…

I struggle to not only get enough sleep, but actually taking rest days as well. I lift 3 days a week and do aerial the other days. I need at least 3 days of silks, and I started pole again, so I'd like to do 2 days of that. I've had to stop Lyra. In order to get it all in and still have a true day of rest (where I walk or…

I'm back down to my end of 2013 summer weight. My bulk was tiny though. I had it in my head to drop a few more lbs, but honestly, I am struggling with fatigue, recovery, etc., even after my vacation (though I came back totally refreshed). So, I'm upping my M-Th calories to 1900 (from 1700, which is the cut amount). On…

How long have you been lifting? And what program have you been following?

I pretty much did a body recomp this past winter ( I did gain 3 lbs, which I've now lost). Lift heavy weights and eat at maintenance. It's slow, but that's all there is to it as far as I'm aware. Below is the progress I made. It's definitely subtle. BTW, ignore the "standing on toilet" part. I've been taking pictures that…

Thanks for that link! I make sure to hit my protein requirements and eat plenty of fruits and veggies, but usually have a few hundred calories left over that I like to use on alcohol. During the week I usually have one or two drinks a night (or sometimes none), and then a few more on Friday/Saturday. I haven't noticed a…

I got one once, but I was hot, dehydrated, and had been teaching aerial classes. Not fun
