  • Well, riding 3.5 miles on my beach cruiser on paved, somewhat hilly roads takes me about 25-30 minutes (no hurry, trust me). On my mountain bike, I can do the 2.5 mile single track loop (pretty rocky and hilly) in about 20-25 minutes. I ride at a medium pace. So, long story short, I'm agreeing with the 30 minutes or so…
  • Haha, very true. However, aerial silks + hangover = not so awesome. So, I suppose the anti-beer folks are onto something there.
  • Good grief. Quit projecting your own issues with alcohol on others. And as far as the "peak physical body condition", you have no pictures and 4 posts, so I'm not going to take your opinion too seriously. My body is in pretty good physical condition despite that I am a social drinkers who regularly drink 3+ drinks on a…
  • Are you hitting single track trails with your bike? I'd actually consider that to be superior to jogging because of the inherent HIIT nature of mountain bike riding (assuming you're in a hilly area). Other than that, I'm sure others have given you much better advice re: jogging vs. basic spinning.
  • I can't believe I'm responding to this, but it's 3a.m. and I'm awake so... OP, if you are really just trying to "tone" up, continue eating what you normally do (making sure there's some protein in there), start lifting things (your 20 lb dumbbells, your body, whatever), and read everything you can on the…
  • I drink way more than I should, complete with at least one hangover a month (which I am working to change.) Anyway, I've been lifting for the last nine months with excellent results. I'm also 38 and female.
  • Many years ago I lost about 12 lbs just switching from regular soda to diet. So there is that. Nowadays, I do try to limit my diet soda, but only because of bone density concerns. I drink a bit of coffee with half & half and non-calorie sweetener. In fact, I get about 80 calories/day in creamer. I also drink 1-2 diet…
  • This. They aren't bad, they just don't have enough calorie bang for the buck. But I'm sure different people react differently. But for me, a 200 calorie bagel (whole grain or otherwise) isn't going to touch my hunger the way a 200 calorie steak would. Some people can fit them in, but I like to eat a lot of food, and…
  • These are my 1 year mfp progress pics--a loss of about 8 lbs and 7 months of lifting (starting in September 2013) with primary focus being lower body. I don't do a ton of upper body because my hobbies take care of that. [img]http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee322/jivete/Lifting…
  • I know some people love it, but Bikram Yoga is the worst yoga. Drill seargent instructors, nasty carpeted floor, students that sometimes get holier than thou. I'm not a fan. Obviously.
  • Bananas are fine. They're a bit higher in calories and sugar than other fruit, but that's about it. They're sweet enough I treat them as dessert.
  • Playa del Carmen. My husband and I went in January and loved it. We stayed at an all inclusive then and decided this time to stay at a smaller hotel in the city. My son just graduated high-school, so this is his graduation gift (and a gift to meeee to!) I prefer PdC over the Baja side. It's also a direct flight from KC, so…
  • I'm not a rock climber, but I do aerial silks several times a week, so it's using similar muscles (constant climbing and all). My stats are somewhat similar: 5'5", 130 lb, 18.9% Body Fat (measured by BodPod). My tested RMR was 1580, and my TDEE is 2150 (BodyMedia routinely put me at 2200, which is true from my experience).…
  • Looks good! I'll have to try it with chicken, as well as with cauliflower. I too love cauliflower substitutions. Sometimes it's just fun to try something different. I've never understood why people get so weird about food definitions.... I've said it before, we have the grammar police all over the internet, and on MFP, we…
  • This really made me laugh. I'm struggling with cutting as well. I was really hoping to drop a few pounds before I leave for Mexico on Sunday. And may have, sort-of, dropped a lb. I bounce back and forth so much it's hard to tell. So vacation is obviously a diet break, not that I've been managing that very well, and after?…
  • Did not read past first page... Can't comment on the vibrating floor, but here's some generic red light therapy info (with a slant, of course): http://womensjournalmd.com/blog/2013/02/08/the-amazing-healing-power-of-red-light-therapy/ My understanding with red light, which is merely electromagnet radiation within a certain…
  • Tight hip flexors cause a lot of low back pain but are rarely mentioned. Prolonged sitting tightens up the hip flexors, which end up pulling on the lower back.
  • Thanks, everyone! Seeing progress definitely keeps me motivated to continue. I think it took me about 5-6 months to start really seeing a difference in my legs. My arms/abs have been several years in the making, but I've noticed huge improvements in the same 6 months. Keep at it! I do workout every day. A couple days are…
  • Does anyone know if those charts are 1RM? I didn't see that defined...
  • I'm a little under 130 lbs and I'm only benching 85lb (5x3). I'll be honest, I haven't trained it consistently. I say only because my upper body is pretty developed, but it's all pulling muscles. But push-ups are no problem either.
  • It's a common saying (Usually "out train" but same difference). Pretty sure it means working out does not give you liberty to eat whatever you want. You still have to be mindful of calories.
  • This is why I eat at a deficit Mon-Thurs. Bank a few calories for the weekend...
  • Many people don't believe in the body types. I kinda wonder myself. It's like the difference between a Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred. You can have a skinny Quarter horse, but it will never look as long and lean as a Thoroughbred. Since we're all just animals... At the end of the day, besides being an interesting concept,…
  • Wow, what a difference! Great work!
  • I think it definitely can be. I have free days every week too. Usually Friday and Saturday. It works well for maintenance for me. But I have to watch them ifi want to actually lose a few lbs. Like, I'm at 19% bf and would like to be closer to 17% so I can have a 4-pack. Gotta limit the free days. People get weird and…
  • Alcohol can derail me too, but for the most part, as long as I'm logging, it's fine. It's only that Friday/Saturday night where I go out without any thought to calories. I'm maintaining for the most part though. I can lose weight while still drinking, I just have to be careful after that third glass not to go home and…
  • These are great! My story isn't too interesting, but here it is nonetheless: Since high school, I've maintained a weight at the high-ish end of normal for my 5'5" frame. I was 130-135 in HS. I was fairly active, but not with traditional exercise. I was an avid equestrian. Gained pregnancy weight at 20 but lost it. I was…
  • Diet soda just makes me crave more diet soda. Many years ago I lost about 12 lbs switching from regular to diet soda, all without changing anything else. I'd be more concerned with too much diet soda and bone density.
  • I often hit the mountain bike trails near my office in "regular" clothes. Mostly because I'm too lazy to change, but I also have some time constraints. I like to ride the 2.5 mile trail at lunch, and just have enough time to drive there, ride, drive back to my office in an hour. I don't actually sweat that much, and I work…
  • These discussions crack me up. I have yet to figure out why anyone cares what I, or anyone else, eats. I suppose if you are a person that has ethical issues with food, I'll give you a pass to express your opinion. But to tell me white bread is killing me, or express disdain over my love of banana "pancakes"? Don't get it…
