  • Thank you KnitOrMiss. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'm afraid I will keep losing when I don't want or need to. I am going to give myself a 3 lb. swing range, but will probably still try the 100 cal more per day. There is little from the Hellers re maintenance that I can find, the one thing i recall from being…
  • I love things like smoked oysters, Nick's Spicy Sticks, wedges of Laughing Cow cheese like their Spicy Jack. I adore 5th Street Grill Turkey Italian Sausages with onions and peppers, and eat a lot of Miracle Noodles - as rice, their ziti and fettuccine style. Trying kelp noodles tonight :)

  • I do a moderate carb intake way of eating (carbohydrate addicts lifespan program) in conjunction with a daily calorie limit to help me relearn normal portion sizes. I have lost a total now of 208 pounds, and am 20 pounds from goal. No meds, no surgery and yes, that does mean a lot to me as I did not want to go either…
  • I love the cookbook by nom nom paleo - has a nice section re foods her kids like, how she packs their lunches (wish I'd had lunches like that when I was a kidlet). I don't do strict paleo more a primal approach as a twist to my plan, but I'll make a good recipe that fits how I like to eat, from anywhere :)
  • Today is my 479th day, and I plan to never miss a day for the rest of my life. I am 20 pounds from goal (will have lost a total of 228 pounds -about 150 of those will have been while a member here) and intend on beating the odds by not regaining.
  • Good luck with this, I think it is much easier when both the husband and wife are committed to the diet change. I can only say that what has worked best for me and my body (have metabolic syndrome and started off with 228 pounds to lose.), is the Carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan Program, which after losing 80+ pounds on, I…
  • water, coffee, tea, and pickles - if the jar says 0 calories per serving. I count everything else, including garlic cloves when cooking.
  • I take them to the nearest Susan G. Komen foundation donation box. My mom is a many year breast cancer survivor, and this is one way I can support this foundation.
  • Welcome and best wishes to you. Whatever way of eating you choose to lose the weight - make it one you can live on for life, adjusting for maintenance when it's time. I'll take one of those doughnuts - only make it a spingi (mini sized Italian doughnuts made with ricotta for that protein edge..lol).
  • Hi and welcome. There are some low carb groups you can join here, where you can find support. I've been following Carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan Program for over 3 years and lost almost 190 pounds to date (101 since joining mfp). I have a blog if you wish to see what I eat, etc. (I use mfp for a personal log only)
  • Thank you for sharing so honestly, what has happened, where you are at. I look forward to reading your journey going forward. I agree with the others who have posted about how well you express yourself. I would encourage you to start a blog (as I have). Its a gift to share what you have learned and are learning, with…
  • I order a marinated grilled chicken breast and ask them to hold the beans, rice and just put salad on the plate or sautéed veggies. Or I order skirt steak with a salad.
  • Yes, I chose a program I thought I live the rest of my life on, that would help control my health issues. I chose Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program. Pretty simple, does have list of what is considered low carb veggies that can be had any time. Anything not on the low carb veggie or protein lists, is for the once a day…
  • This is good to hear. I started at 368 (lost over 85 before coming to mfp) and have now lost over 182 pounds. I was overweight for over 25 years, am losing this slowly (3 1/3 years so far to get to this point), am biking (recumbent exercise bike - bad knees), hiking (slowly..lol..but truly hiking since I am lucky enough to…
  • I started at 368 on June 1st, 2011, and as of today I am 185.8 (my listed weight is always a 7 day average). I joined MFP just over a year ago after a long plateau where I began to gain a bit. I am about to post beginning and during photos on my blog. I'm the queen of slow but steady loss - sometimes under a pound per…
  • Welcome! I began my weight loss efforts at 368 (joined mfp having already lost some), and do have a blog (not here, on my own site). If you begin a blog, let me know and I will read it, and would be glad to share the addy of my offsite blog with you (and there is no advertising on my blog).
  • Don't think my plan is considered low carb, it's lower, and moderates when/how you eat carbs (my one meal a day with complex carbs you balance your carb choice with an equal amount of protein and low carb veggie). I follow CALP - Carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan Program. Started 3+ years ago, total including what I've lost…
  • I follow a lower carb eating plan that few seem to know about or use. It's CALP (carbohydrate addicts lifespan program). I find my carbs end up being between 50 gms to 80 per day. I eat just under 1500 calories per day (as this helps me control my portion sizes), and have lost since adding portion control, 92 lbs. My total…
  • One of the things that the Dr's Heller clarified in their later books, was that the Reward Meal was never meant to be an hour long, unbalanced carb fest/binge. Since I posted in March I've lost another 20 lbs. CALP with portion control via setting a daily calorie limit works well for me.
  • I've lost over 172 pounds in the past 3 years following CALP (carbohydrate addicts lifespan program), with a daily calorie limit to help me relearn proper proportions. So...2 meals a day I have low carb veggies and protein, 1 meal a day I add in a complex carb. Works really well for me (my calorie limit for anyone…

  • I chose an eating plan that lets me work in anything I might want. I can't have it all the same meal or day, but if I want a doughnut, I can work it in. I chose a plan that I could live with for life - losing or maintenance. I also have worked extremely hard to have the attitude of how to make it work, not why it won't.…
  • Bobbi, don't give up! Before I came to MFP, I actually started at 368 with very bad knees and having to use a cane, chronic bone on bone pain, and an NSAID for pain that was only supposed to be for short term use - I'd been on it for 3 years. I used a stationary recumbent bike (not enough, more now..lol), and my chosen…
  • I make a kalamata dip with cream cheese and kalamata olives, stuff celery sticks with it. Stuff mushrooms - could be spinach, bit of gruyere or cheddar cheese, scallion. I make pork balls using cheese and scallion, plain ground pork, season pepper, garlic, could use a bit of chipotle chili powder. Shrimp salad stuffed…
  • 1 turkey Italian sausage that has peppers and onions in it (gluten-free), 1 oz. cougar gold cheddar cheese, 2 stalks raw celery. 1 oz. half and half.
  • We like Jimmy Johns - their #2 roast beef (no cheese) as an unwich (lettuce wrap) is under 300 cal, and we like the grilled arctic cod sandwich at carl jr's as a lettuce wrap (under 250 cal as I recall).
  • Just wanted to say kudos for you for making that decision and for the amount of weight you've lost so far. I had 228 lbs. to lose when I began this almost 3 years ago. I now have under 70 lbs. to go (my mfp bar only reflects what I've lost since adding a daily calorie limit as a way to manage my portion sizes), and am…
  • I like your motto - mine is "I will only fail if I quit. And I'm not quitting."
  • I adore The Republic of Tea's Red Tea - Good Hope Vanilla (a rooibos tea blended with vanilla bean).
  • Just keep on keeping on. Maintaining your loss, doing well, looking good - eating that gelato in front of them and not gaining weight - is the best revenge. I'm sorry your family is behaving that way!
