I've gone to my local one for about a month. I do have the black card membership. I like it, comparatively, to some of the small gyms I've been to. The atmosphere is welcoming, it's clean!, and there is plenty of equipment. I don't like that they have bagels on Tuesdays, pizza on Fridays, and tootsie rolls every day. For…

What the posters above me stated is correct. Also, my surgeon said that if you can't stick to what the dietitian outlines then they will not approve you for surgery. Diet is a huge component of the surgery. If you don't do what they tell you to do you can sabotage any surgical remedy by either stretching the stomach,…

Yes if you click on the "My Home" tab and then on "goals" you can adjust your calories and your macronutrients there.

Running also triggers my migraines. I have them chronically so it's not just running. About 30 mins prior to a run I will pop 800mgs of Ibuprofen. Usually stops it dead in it's tracks.
-
It does, that's a good idea

Hahaha, that's cute. My kids would probably take it off the door, wave it around with "Mom, what is this? Why do you need this?" If laying it ON TOP of my purse doesn't work I'm sure a post it note wouldn't either.

Agreed, "special treatment", to me, indicates options that aren't or shouldn't be available to everyone. Access to medical care, and equal treatment in job performance is not special treatment. I'll never in my life forget what a surgeon said to me after removing part of my thyroid. I had gone to him as I had a tumor…

Hi, I only have part of a thyroid as well. Previous to the cancerous tumor I had on it I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and also have Celiac so I'm gluten free too! I've been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and some days am in a lot of pain. I have also had a complete hysterectomy with bisingual oophorectomy (no ovaries). It's…

We'll just have to agree to disagree. We're social creatures and social acceptance is something most people strive for on some level.

I'm liking what I hear :) Thank you guys for your input!

Point blank I don't think anyone should be shamed for being fat or skinny. It's not OK to judge people's bodies. We all have our on vices, some are just more visible than others. It's also not OK to give your thoughts on why someone else is fat regardless if you've been fat yourself unless they specifically ask for your…

Thank you guys for your input. I'm still very leery of doing this. I'm also able to lose but lose motivation and pack it all back on (case in point last year I lost 20lbs, I gained 25 back in the space of 2 months). I really miss being able to be active which is a big deal for me. I've ran like crazy and had wanted to do a…

I think that's what many parents don't get: the teachers are charged with teaching their class about a lot of different things, including nutrition. The thing is that many many many parents DO NOT teach their children good eating habits. They DO NOT teach their children good exercise habits, hygiene habits, homework…

Ah the great pop tart debate. My ex and I battle over this practically daily. He feeds them nothing but junk. Pizza, popcorn, pop tarts, cookies, fast food. Bugs the absolute crap out of me because while there's no "bad" foods in the context of a varied diet it means I have to 100% be the "varied" part of their diet. Now…

I think sometimes, as a society, we do so without meaning to. We do so with the best of intentions. Such as sharing "inspirational" stories. They sometimes can leave someone feeling... inadequate? I've seen it a lot, people just giving up because so and so can lose 100lbs, what's wrong with me?! There are so many factors…

I think "extreme sacrifice" is the key words you're using here. Of course it CAN be done, and that's not what I'm saying. I'm also not saying CICO doesn't work for everyone (because it does). What I'm saying is we demonize people who say "it's too hard for me". We push them to feel bad about themselves if they can't also…

Actually I know all too well how thyroid issues work having Hashimotos hypothyroid as well as had having thyroid cancer resulting in now not having a functioning thyroid... at all. I can't tell you how many times doctors have asked me "How tf you alive right now?!". I also have chronic pain, no ovaries, and have been…

Ah, here we go: https://books.google.com/books?id=Cm_kLhU1AP0C&pg=PA433&lpg=PA433&dq=BMR+Hypothyroid+20%25&source=bl&ots=ZrboZhlWW-&sig=f1j68wz4RO27XKh68c8h9khthds&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiC3deJvJXRAhUJiVQKHYLmCJEQ6AEIKjAD#v=onepage&q=BMR%20Hypothyroid%2020%25&f=false This source says that a normal BMR test someone in a…

Please cite your source, everything I can find says that it can impact the BMR by 5-20% although I cannot find a specific scientific source ATM, still searching.

I think there's a major problem with that statement. Not everyone can control how they live. They can control how they live given their unique set of circumstances but that's not always going to achieve the goal that they want. For example, someone with unchecked hypothyroidism can sometimes eat as few as 500 calories/ day…

I agree that many factors are overlooked. It seems like the predominate mantra has not only been "eat less, move more" but also "if you can't/don't/won't you're a loser and you deserve to be fat and unhealthy". Also if you say "well I am eating less and moving more" but it doesn't register then you're a liar, flat out.…

Yep, I did water therapy 2 days a week, 1 hour at a time for several months. It feels great to be in the water but ramps up the pain after I'm out. I'm actually still flaring from that NYC trip. I feel so guilty sometimes with my children. They wanted me to go skating with them this weekend and I just couldn't even bring…
-
What in the world is a liver cleanse?
-
Nope. Almost everything causes a flare anymore. Hell working causes flares mid week. And I have a desk job.
-
Yeah, that pretty much sums me up too.
-
Plan what I want for the week, go to the grocery store and buy all the ingredients. Then hand it over to my husband to do the grunt work :p
-
Yeah, no one notices me either. I've lost 15lbs recently and not even my spouse person noticed. I asked him if he could tell and he was like "No, not really". But I'm down a size and feel pretty good so I guess that's something. *I* can tell.
-
That's a good idea. I try to distract myself and have recently been going with a friend who jabbers my ear off, which is a good thing. I went this AM and am kicking myself because I didn't bring a pair of stretchy pants to wear to wear to work. I think the after effects are almost worse than the during. During I'll be…

That's pretty much my reasoning. It's not a decision I took lightly. I'm sure you didn't take it lightly either. I think it's really up to each person to decide what is the right route to take for them. My journey has led me to this and I'm ok with the risks I'm taking.
