  • Your whole core. It's not supposed to hurt your back. Are you doing it stiff enough? A stright, flat, back? I like the plank a lot. I hope you can get it worked out. Once you do you can find a couple of exercises that have the plank as it's "base".
  • My brother used to tease me and that's probably the reason I get so intense and focused on meeting my goals. It's funny because at one point in my early 20's I was too thin and he gave me grief for that as well. Now we both have the same interests as far as health and fitness goes so it's all good, but his teasing did…
  • I'm glad I found this thread. This is exactly the information I was looking for. I want to lose about 10 pounds of fat and gain about 10 pounds of muscle. I've got the losing part down, it's the strength training I'm not familiar with. I'll be checking out all of the sources advised here. Just last night a friend of mine…
  • I don't measure but I'm not that anal about it. I guesstimate the portion.
  • I baked them once, into a corn nut type of snack, after seeing it done on an episode of Martha Stewart. I need some work on getting it done properly but they came out good. My kids like them too, and snack on them out of the can, so we ate all of the baked ones. We make hummus pretty often as well.
  • From what I've read on here, no. They say that MFP is low on those averages anyway. I'm always over too. I have a protein packed breakfast, and some sort of protein for lunch and dinner, and my greek yogurts have a lot of protein as well (though, I don't eat them every day). I'm usually a good 50 points over. I forget…
  • I can relate. When I was a teenager it was so much harder to have self control. What you need to train yourself to think is that food is fuel for the body. That's it. There are no obese animals in the wild. Americans specifically have been bombarded with fast food, and junk food, and diets, and"diet" food... it ALL looks…
  • I allow myself to not be as strict on weekends. I don't jump off the deep end. In fact, most of what I eat on those days is probably considered healthy to a lot of people. But we eat out a lot and I never really trust restaurants even when they list a healthy menu LOL. And, if we go out with friends I'm not going to be…
  • Same here. LOL I'm otherwise so gung ho about working out but will spend an entire day (just one) in bed during my period... actually sleeping. The other days I'll get my workout in but, I'll still be a little lazy about it. LOL
  • Yes! And, I hate it. I eat a little more because I figure my body actually needs it. I also buy Laughing Cow ice cream sandwiches and eat one a night (if I want one) while watching TV. Oh, and a lot of hot tea. I prefer that over coffee, but coffee would be the same in that I buy flavored versions as a mock dessert. I'm…
  • Isn't that what they are asking about when you sign up? How active you are outside of the workouts?
  • I buy one for dieting women. They usually have green tea extract for added energy. I like the generic one at Walgreens the best so far, though I currently have the CVS version. They're all a store brand version of the Centrum, I think. Sometimes I take my husbands. His is a stress formula, and he swears by it. He gets it…
  • I allow myself to cheat a little bit on weekends. I don't dive off the deep end, but I do eat out, or have a bite of something. I always cook my meals at home during the week so my diet is pretty regulated. And that even a healthy dish at a restaurant isn't as healthy as eating at home. LOL I used to wait tables while in…
  • It sounds like the sugar busters diet. I think Atkins isn't as strict. I tried it back in the day. I love my carbs so it was a big adjustment for me. And, it's nearly impossible to eliminate carbs entirely. It's def. something that you will want to do as your perminant lifestyle choice, otherwise what's the point? I like…
  • "I'm surprised at how many people are totally okay with throwing out her daughter's birthday cake, for two reasons. One: It's her DAUGHTER'S birthday cake! I'd be upset as a kid if my parents threw out my cake because one parent had no self-control" I agree with this. Gain some self control. You created an entire post…
  • Great job! And, I love Jillian too. She's tough, but in a way that makes me want to push myself. I rented a yoga DVD of hers from the library and even in that one she was tough. The yoga instructors are usually all quiet and peacefull, Jillian was pushing and yelling LOL. I love her.
  • I have WHFoods.com (worlds healthiest foods) bookmarked on my computer. I'm trying to lose weight and build muscle so my body needs the high protein, good fat, foods. I don't consider myself on a "diet" but I do call it the Super Foods diet. The whole egg has a lot of good benefits that make it worth eating. I boil a lot…
  • I still have some Jasmin rice that I'll cook sometimes. When that's out I'll buy brown rice. I don't cook it as often as I used to, but I do love beans and rice, and there could be worse things I'm eating. When I make oat groats I'll make a small batch of it and may substitute that for rice when I have it. And, yes, it's…
  • goalseeker, thanks for the recipe. I'll give it a shot. I have a big container of protein powder and I really don't like the way it tastes as a drink. Maybe mixing some of it into this recipe will at least get me to not waste it. We do a lot of stuff outdoors, and are really active most days, so eating a bag of lettuce…
  • I love it too. My gym, probably like most of them, has the class in a black painted room with dance floor lights. So that is a nice change for me. So far I only do it on Wednesday mornings, and strength training the rest of the week. But, I can relate top people falling in love with it.. For me it's great cardio.
  • I bought a big bag of them a while ago to make bubble tea at home. You just boil them. They're supposed to be a little al dente, so if yours are a small pea sized than I'd guess 15 min? If they're too soft than reduce the time the next time you make them.
  • My guess is because "cheap" food is filled with preservatives so they last longer in the kitchen, if not ordered right away. The chain restaurants don't have to "go shopping" as often. Better ingredients spoil faster, and they taste better, you get the full flavor of what it is you're eating, so the quality can be put into…
  • I'm looking for a good ab workout. I've tried other Jillian workouts and they were very good. I swear somebody stole my 30 Day Shred DVD because I can't find it anywhere, and it's not something I leave the house with LOL. My abs are the one thing I can't seem to get a good workout on. I want them to hurt! ;) I may have to…
  • My parents. My mom cooked most meals at home but she wasn't the greatest cook so we had a lot of processed foods. It was never anything that was obviouslly unhealthy, and nobody was overweight. My dad had had heart troubles in the past and recently found out he has diabetes. NOW, in his 70's, he has to change his diet. I…
  • I take a rest day from the weights. No set day but usually on the weekend because that's when I have less free time, and the gym can get more crowded. Though, I have kids and a lot of energy, so I still may go to the park and run around with them. Or I might do a yoga video that I like. I know yoga is a "workout" but I…

  • I like the Laughing Cow ice cream sandwiches. Mint chocolate is my favorite. I also drink a lot more hot tea during that time. I have a pretty big selection of teas here. A coconut chai with cream (I still do powdered creamer) and stevia type of sweatener is my favorite. I'm in the transition of switching to more natural…
  • It's alway sbeen my understanding that oat groats and steel cut take longer for your body to digest. Therefore leaving you fuller longer. And they do contain protein, amung other things. I was actually going to stock up on some today. I had been eating Old-Fashioned oatmeal (the round Quaker container) in the past. I…
  • I haven't read the other post that you're talking about. I'll check it out. But, could they have been talking about the maintenance period? Once people hit their goal weight, they should still exercise, but the calories that they burn during those workouts can be added into their daily intake. They don't eat it all the…
  • I prefer the elliptical, and find that I get a better workout on it. I've always been a speed walker so that may be why. Even during those times when I wasn't working out or eating right I could still walk around, say Disney World for example, and not feel any sort of fatigue. I do get on the treadmill for about 15 min. at…
  • Don't know if this has already been mentioned because I skipped to the bottom but, a good rule is to eat things that don't require an ingredient label. Fruits, veggies, nuts, grains, eggs, meat (not deli/sandwich)... Than move on from there. Some things do require more than one ingredient, in that case read the label and…
