  • I have occasionally read on here the suggestion to those who are not losing as quickly as they hoped, or are stalled that they "need to to eat more to lose weight". Huh? That one I don't understand, nor agree with.
  • My problem is that I have very little self-restraint when there are tables full of chips, dips, etc., food items that I normally don't have on hand. I went to a gathering last Saturday, and I didn't eat much during the entire day before going, in anticipation. I managed to deny crackers and bread, but once I started on the…
  • I've heard the saying "abs are made in the kitchen", which supports the message in all of the posts so far. It's a calorie deficit, and your body will lose the fat where it is genetically predisposed to.
  • Even on weekends I don't log very accurately and I "think" I'm eating less, but my weight always goes up a pound or two by Monday. Not logging doesn't work for me.
  • 5'7" 156 pounds pants: size 10 tops: medium or large age: 61
  • Great job, by the way! That's so awesome!
  • But would you use the words that OMAD stands for? There are so many acronyms used on this site and I feel so dumb - I don't know what mosts of them mean!
  • I don't think I said that "stop dieting"; if I did it's not what I meant. I think the maintenance part has always been the hardest for me, plus it's a different goal. Thanks for replying.
  • What I mean is that I have to accept a flabby stomach, "bat wings" (the back of the arms), and flabby inner thighs. The body is not going to look like it did decades earlier, that's all. Putting things into perspective, not having to deal with health issues, or having been extremely overweight, makes these concerns seem…
  • This is a great post and follow-up posts; just what I was looking for as I am in the same boat. It's so frustrating! My stats: 60 years old, 5'8" - started at 167 lbs last November, now at 157 and want to get to 153 and maintain. I did fluctuate to 153.5 a few times but I seem to have settled at 157 for the past few…
  • I think you should still go to the gym. Exercising is good for one's soul regardless of whether or not weigh loss is involved!
  • I know we are not supposed to compare ourselves with others, but I look for stats and posts from women my height with not a tremedous amount to lose. I am so very awestruck and full of admiration for people who lose 50, 100 plus, pounds! I am 60 years old (so, yeah, 12 years older than you), 5'8" tall, and size 10 pants…
  • Great job - amazing results! You should be very proud of yourself!
  • I have several times, and it helped me tremendously psychologicially. Made me recommit to a calorie deficit more easily.
  • Oh, H**l no, you are not too old!
  • It's nice to hear from another with a picky husband, although I am sorry for you, too. I am sure mine is the pickiest person on the planet. We have many wonderful restaurants in our area, and he enjoys none of them, so I go out with girlfriends. His restauant food selections are restricted to french dip sandwiches,…
  • I have been hovering within a three pound range for about a month as well; the bottom of which is three pounds over my goal weight. I weigh daily because for me it helps psychologically, and helps to keep me more accountable on days of a higher weight. I think for me it has been that there have been many recent celebration…
  • I have to eat something. I go to a 6:00 a.m. exercise class three days per week. I make my oatmeal at home, eat about 3 or four bites, then bring the rest of it to finish once I get to work. That works for me. Everyone is different, it seems, some of my exercise classmates cannot eat a thing, others eat a piece of fruit or…
  • Yes. I buy some that Lean Cuisine makes that are really good, and also a few Trader Joe's frozen entrees that are very good, also. I like that the nutritional counts are already listed. I sometimes add extra veggies.
  • Yes, definitely! I always thought it was the body's way of trying to make up for low energy. From what other posters have said, this seems true.
  • There is a reason you keep trying. You don't want to be overweight. I have lost the 10-12 pounds several times, but have always gained it back after I've stopped paying attention. This time I told myself (when I was at my high weight), look, you aren't feeling alright being at the weight you are or it wouldn't bother you.…
  • Absolutely great advice. I wonder, OP, how you came up with your daily calorie count of 2150? It seems kind of high to me, but I don't know your other factors. The food scale really helps. I recently purchased one, and it has helped me tremendously. Also, logging every.single.morsel that goes in your mouth. And, be very…
  • Losing 12 pounds in two weeks is an awful lot and keeping up that pace is unrealistic. But I think the MFP settings are such that it's just numbers and based on the number of calories eaten on that day it computes some weight based on mathematical figures.
  • There were hardly any fast food restaurants, and going to one was a real treat. Most people ate home cooked meals. Kids were outside running around all of their waking hours.
  • I refused a piece of cake today. I LOVE cake, any kind. I am down to losing my last five pounds, and my weight has been fluctuating daily and hovering at about an 8 pound loss. A coworker brought in some extra birthday cake, a piece was served to me, and I let it sit there for about an hour. Then I got up, and walked it…
  • I second the advice to use a weight tracker app. I use Libra and how ever frequently you weigh yourself, the app will show a trend. My weight fluctuates; I choose to weigh myself daily just to make minor adjustments in that day's CICO if the trend is going up.
  • I think men approach this differently. My husband couldn't wait to turn 60 and take advantage of the senior discounts. I held out as long as I could! The 20 year old clerks and movie ticket takers think anyone over 40 is a geezer. I'm not going to lie; I'm having a hard time with being 60. But that is providing my…
  • I have read many posts about this on MFP. I choose to eat my exercise calories back because if I do not I feel starved. Lots of posters have said to experiment a bit and see what works best for you. If you are losing gradually and consistently and feel good, eat at that calorie level. If you feel fine without eating back…
  • I know - I certainly don't feel old! Don't we all have a set age point in our head that is much younger than our outward appearance dictates?
