  • Wilson, I don't understand you question or even am sure it is a question. Be patient. Garmin/MFP integration is on the horizon.
  • Welcome Sherry. In the testing I have done, wearing the HRM while walking or running does not buy you much in the way of added accuracy. I also cycle, inline skate, and kayak and the HRM is essential in getting appropriate calorie expenditure credit for those activities. I hope we can help you ease into the world of Garmin…
  • I'm not sure what HRM you have on order but it probably does not matter. Your Loop and your phone are only capable of receiving BLE (AKA Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth Smart, and Bluetooth 4.0) transmissions and those only travel an inch or two under water. The 5.2khz GymLink transmission that the Polar H7 puts out along…
  • Goal calculation is a mystery. The good news is that everything counts towards goal. The Loop really is an activity tracker not just a step tracker. 17K steps sound way to high. being overweight should not be a factor. Same for your short stature (cute). I'd use the HRM with your loop. Don't bother for walking or running…
  • I've gotten a little more clarity on this subject from Garmin. Your Vivofit first looks for the HRM it paired with last. Failing to find that, it goes shopping for the strongest Ant+ signal it can find and pairs with that. AnnMareee my Vivofit is female and little Vivofits come from a farm in China.
  • I have been operating under the misimpression that the Vivofit established a serially monogamous relationship with each of my HRMs and have been carefully going through the process of PAIRing them when I switched from one to another. On Saturday I took a walk with another Vivofitter who was also wearing a HRM3. My Vivofit…
  • Hi Ellen, Garmin told me last week that the long list on'y appears on GC Modern if you have other Garmin fitness devices such as a Forerunner or Edge. When I asked why Groups had been excluded from the Vivofit only list, I was told that there was a reason and that it would reveal itself in the next week or two. They are…
  • Hey, it's all guesses. The best we can do is find the most thoroughly researched, science-based guesses. My numbers came from this document http://juststand.org/portals/3/literature/compendium-of-physical-activities.pdf but before you dive into that (which is endlessly entertaining) I suggest you get a head start here:…
  • Thank you. On the subject of walking vs. running: 1. Walking is ALL good. There may be no better exercise in the world. 2. If you are in a hurry and/or have a LOT of ingested calories to dispense with, running is hard to beat. Walking at 3MPH is worth 3.5X your resting metabolic rate / hour Running at 6MPH is worth 9.8X…
  • Lots of surprises here. 1. You are getting a nearly 50% bounce in calories for using the HRM for walking; and 2. You are burning more calories on an normal than a brisk walk. Doesn't seem likely that there was more than an 8 minute difference in the times? Less steps for brisk makes sense. Most people increase speed with a…
  • As long as you never need customer support which you will.-
  • Wait for the Wahoo TICKR X. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/01/wahoo-fitness-tickr.html
  • Do either you or Ann have any other Garmin fitness devices?
  • Which HRM do you have? HRM1 has a big plastic piece that covers the whole front of your chest. HRM3 is all fabric with a transmitter that snaps on. I find that if you wet either of them before you put them on they work well. The 3 starts to do strange things when the battery gets low. It's more comfortable but not worth…

  • So how did your experiment(s) go? Does the Fit App integrate with GC? I have an iPhone 5s with no Ant Capability so this is not an option for me. I often use Runkeeper but it does nothing with HR data other than make pretty graphs. They do not use the info for calorie burn at all.
  • First, The calorie and steps GC shows for Vivofit HRM linked "Activities" are seriously messed up and have been since the get go. As one great example, I did a 10 mile, nearly all down hill bike ride yesterday afternoon. GC reported an impossibly high 1,593 calories. Net calories read directly from the Vivofit for this…

  • Heart Rate Monitors I've always been amazed by the reports I read about how much people HATE heart rate straps. Because of my bench marketing experiments, I frequently wear two at once and have been spotted on rare occasions wearing three (Ant+ for the Vivofit and other Garmin gadgets, Polar H7 for the Loop, and a 60 Beat…
  • marcellinus21, You are welcome. If you want help figuring out how to add your Vivofit measured activity into MFP, let me know. Nice dress. Is there symbolism behind that choice of a photo?
  • Yes marcellinus21 that seems too high. On MFP, please go MY HOME/Settings/Update diet/fitness profile and tell me which radio button is "pressed" here: How would you describe your normal daily activities? Sedentary: Spend most of the day sitting (e.g. bank teller, desk job) Lightly Active: Spend a good part of the day on…
  • You are not blind. You are just inexperienced :). After you enter all of your personal data into Garmin Connect Modern (GCM) it will calculate your BMR and then add 20% to that arbitrarily. Once you have completed a complete midnight to midnight day with Vivofit you will begin seeing bars on your Total Calories graph on…
  • Floridadomer. My recommendation is for you to leave the CopyMySports thing alone. Garmin's tolerance of it comes and goes. I'm pretty sure we will have integration of MFP and Garmin Connect pretty soon. Until then, the suggestion quoted on the first post in this tread has been working quite well for me and only takes a few…
  • Way different. I get: Activities Badges Calendar Challanges Connections Courses Devices Goals Groups Personal Records Reports Segments Sleep Steps Training Plans Weight Workouts Are you and I in different "clouds"? Very, very strange.
  • You are right. Lets start over. Please go to : http://www.myfitnesspal.com/tools/bmr-calculator. Plug in your numbers and tell me what you get for BMR. Next, go into settings on both MFP and Garmin Connect and make sure they have the same values for height, weight, sex, and age. Let me know when you have done that and we…
  • Just to simplify by way of an example: My Loop says I burned 2115 calories yesterday. MFP has already credited me with 1,900 Calories burned from normal daily activities. To keep up with everything in MFP, I would add a custom exercise for the 215 calorie difference. Simple as that. Based on a lot of testing I have done, I…
  • My MFP Calories Burned From Normal Daily Activity= 1,900 cal/day My Garmin Baseline = 1,848 My BMR from MFP's own online calculator found here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/tools/bmr-calculator 1,520. So it looks like Garmin is baking in an extra 20% (which is what they have told me) and MFP is baking in an extra 25%. I am…
  • Hmmm . . . Ann is usually right on but her link didn't work for me. When I went there on my own, however the URL I coppied off the browser address bar was the same http://connect.garmin.com/group/search/ I'm still mystified why nobody can find the link in GC Modern. It is at http://connect.garmin.com/modern/groups or you…
  • I may be missing something but this did not work for me. Downloaded spreadsheet. Changed things in settings tab. Clicked on Get Weight Data. Took me to MFP login. Logged In. Hit OK on spreadsheet pop-up. No data downloaded. Change from requesting last 365 days to last 15. No difference.
  • Good for you! About the group thing. numsquat reported a similar problem. Shows right up for me on GC Modern. 6th Choice on the list generated by clicking on the three bars. So far, you are the only one who has made it into the group. I haven't spent a lot of time on it but it is not immediately obvious to me how to use…
  • Got and accepted your connect request. The groups option should be the 9th thing on the list that drops down after you click on the three bars. I think you can join the group without a connection to me.
  • Hello again, I'm interested in playing with the Groups feature on Garmin Connect. As a part of that effort, I am asking each of you to connect with me on Garmin Connect. Search for me by clicking on the three horizontal bars in the upper left habd corner of the GC home page. Then click connections. Then the Find People…
