Not at all. Jealousy has nothing to do with it. I am reasonably fit and have no desire to risk serious injury just so I can be part of the "cool crowd" (as many Crossfit people seem to consider themself to be). I do quite a few different exercise classes and I do some running. My fitness goals are to stay healthy and fit…

Since you have decided to do Crossfit, I hope you ALWAYS listen to your body, and not the team or the screaming coach or the ticking clock. Because listening to any one of those over your own body is a sure way to get injured. And after a few workouts. if you find that Crossfit is too extreme for your needs, or you find…

That's because you either haven't been injured doing a WOD yet, or haven't seen any of your friends limping around in a cast because they tried to do something at Crossfit that was beyond their ability so the coach would stop yelling at them. But again, you don't have to believe me, but you SHOULD take the NY Times…

Anyone that is thinking about joining Crossfit should be aware of the darker side of the organization These are two good articles on the topic I saw someone post on MFP a few months ago: The Controversy Behind CrossFit http://www.livestrong.com/article/545200-the-fall-of-fitness/ Getting Fit, Even If It Kills You…

Please, enlist some help before the situation becomes worse! Most areas have some kind of elder services bureau where you can find out about the possibilities of having trained care aids come in and give you a break. There is no reason to try and do it all yourself when there is help available!
-
I don't think you are cranky and difficult at all! You're an independent woman, just like I am!
-
OK, good luck, but that kind of coaching would NOT work for me! I would not tolerate a coach, husband, or anyone else making me think I had almost finished a workout, then telling me I had a lot more to do. When I go to my fitness class, I like to know upfront what a workout is going to consist of and how long it will…

There's nothing wrong with having a beer every now and then. Just hit the gym a bit harder that day!
-
If somebody pulled that on me, I would consider it abuse or something pretty darned close to it. My advice is to make your own goals and not let anyone -- including your husband -- tell you that you need to do more, especially if your knees are hurting. And you have every right to change your goals if you find you are in…

I try and buy organic as much as possible, especially on products where the prices aren't much different.
-
My advice is to stay away from Crossfit. Many Crossfit trainers only had a weekend seminar for training and are not qualified to coach you. At most Crossfits, the price is outrageous. For what you would be paying for Crossfit, you could hire a qualified trainer to help with your form that really does know what they are…

I don't do heavy lifting, but since I started doing a boot camp class that includes a lot of body weight exercises and some relatively light weight lifting, the size of the area between my shoulders has increased to the point I had to donate some of the tops that fit a bit snug before I started. My weight has stayed about…
-
Good for you! I do some HITT type exercises as part of the boot camp class I go to. I don't have much weight to lose (except around my mid section) and am mostly interested in getting stronger, and I have noticed improvements since I started

Exercise DVDS are good when you don't have time to go the gym, can't afford to join a gym, live too far away, etc. But I like doing group classes at the gym because it gives me a reason to get away from everything else that's going on.

The HCG diet has been listed on Diet Scam Watch for years. And any doctor that prescribes HCG for weight loss is participating in a known medical fraud. You can read all about it here: http://www.dietscam.org/reports/hcg.shtml "Human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) is a hormone found in the urine of pregnant women. More than…

How about checking the local gyms for boot camp or HITT (high intensity interval training) classes?

I have not done Insanity, as from all I've seen and heard about it, it doesn't look like something I would like. But I want to congratulate all of you for listening to your body and deciding that Insanity wasn't for you. Just because a fitness program is popular, that doesn't mean it's for everyone. A friend of mine pulled…
-
Good for you! But unfortunately, when many people that are new to exercising see a bunch of people exercising super hard on a DVD or in a live class, they feel like they have to try and keep up with them. Maybe the company that makes Insanity DVDs should come out with a Level 1 intro for people that have not been…
-
If someone ordered Insanity that did not have the physical endurance to do the workouts, they would be better off sending it back for a refund and buying a different set of DVDs instead of forcing their body to do something that was obviously too much for them. If they want Insanity later, it will always be available. That…

Popcorn is a healthy whole grain food. Enjoy it!

Just a piece of advice. When the coach tells you to dig deep, remember to listen to your body. A friend of mine tried the Insanity program recently, and she dug too deep and pulled a muscle. So do be careful!
-
Sorry about your accident! I am glad that swimming is working out for you. Swimming is a great low-impact exercise!
-
I've never done Jillian Michales DVDs. Does she scream at you like she screams at people on The Biggest Loser? If she does, I would turn the volume down too!
-
I am glad you are seeing results, but Insanity is a really tough program, so do be sure to take enough rest days and no matter how deep the coach says to dig, don't push beyond what you know is safe. A friend of mine pulled a muscle doing something in that program.
-
Do you make money from selling Insanity? The way you are promoting it, it almost sounds like you do. I've read where plenty of people have felt discouraged about their fitness level after doing the first fitness test. And I've read where many people were extremely sore for days after doing it. They really could have…
-
No, it's not just Insanity. I recommend that unless someone is already already in great shape, they avoid ANY overly extreme exercise program, including Insanity and Crossfit. The OP was EXHAUSTED. A fitness program that's a good fit for your fitness level does NOT leave you exhausted all day after you do it! Smart fitness…
-
But wouldn't it make a lot more sense for Insanity to design a workout that GRADUALLY increases the insane nature of the workout instead of almost killing people the first week???????????
-
Why not check out the library and see if there are some DVDs available that you can try for free until you decide what you want? Also, a good variety of exercise DVDs often turn up at thrift stores and rummage sales. I have never done Insanity, but from all I've heard, I can't recommend it unless someone is extremely fit…

Being exhausted and super stiff for days doesn't work for most people. They have things to do with their energy besides Insanity! The guy that created that program should have set it up where it isn't intense for the first week and then build up the intensity gradually so people won't think they have to suffer through such…
