  • This entire thread pains me. I am a previous 1200-calorie consumer. Yes, 1200 is a great way to lose weight - it's just about fail-proof. However, LONG-TERM thinking, 1200 cals a day is not good. Your body needs more than this just to function if you do anything besides laying in bed all day long. Do the math....if you…
  • Hey there - I'm going to take a not-very-popular stance on here and try to defend your boyfriend. Not that I'm saying you should remain with him - I don't think that's a good idea unless you go to couples therapy. Let's say that your relationship IS INDEED wonderful and he's great and he says he loves you - I'm not…
  • In its most basic form, this sentence is widely interpreted as the body holding onto nutrients if you eat below TDEE. However, this is not a permanent phenomenon. Let's say you're eating 2000 cals a day, you drop to 1400, you may not see the scale move for up to a week, maybe just a couple days, because your body is saying…
  • I've never been a really skinny person. 140 is usually what I have weighed. But at 140, I wasn't toned and all and I kept thinking that I was doing something wrong, I had be able to get thinner than this. So I bought the Body Media Fit Link. Lo and behold, this thing worked like magic. I could eat whatever I wanted and…
  • Strongly disagree. I am very fit and active, burning about 2600 cals a day and starting out with only 10 pounds to lose. I lost all 10 consistently, 1 pound a week as I had set forth. I alternate cardio and strength days and still found it to be pretty accurate. Accurate enough for it to work as I wanted and expected it…
  • I wrote a blog post about this very same thing. I was a diehard Polar fan and even after I got the BMF, I was wearing both devices. Then I was like....why?? After about a week, the discrepancies weren't that bad, less than 100 cals apart on circuit training and just a miniscule difference on cardio. So I ditched the HRM.…
  • "Boy, do I regret doing that workout!" - No one. Ever.

  • I have a BodyMedia and agree with OP that eating over my BMR -NET- is what has helped me lose 15 pounds in 2 months and be smaller than I've ever been in my life. First, my BMR is 1429 or something. So I eat 1500 cals AT LEAST a day. Then I increase my activity to make sure I burn 2000+ calories a day, maintaining a…
  • My son was born! :) My daughter will be 3 tomorrow and my son is 5 months old. Love him to death! Fell back in love with SO of 4.5 years.
  • Wow never thought about it that way! I'm 12 pounds away from losing 50 pounds and coincidentally, my goal weight! :) Thanks for that incredible reminder!
  • Try Fight Cellulite Fast by Chris Freytag (or any of her dvds for that matter). Her choreography is simple, fun, to the point and what I love about it is that its low impact without sacrificing intensity. I usually burn about 650 calories in an hour.
  • To those who love almonds but are afraid of oversnacking - look into Emerald 100 calorie packs. They have the dark cocoa dusted almonds which I love and regular and garlic and herb I think. I have mine with cheese. :)
  • As I get nearer to my ultimate goal of 125/Size 6, things definitely slow down in the weight loss department. So in order to not get discouraged, I celebrate every 2 or 3 pounds with something small. The last time was when I reached 138 and could wear size 8s. So my next mini goal is 135 by my beach vacation in 2 weeks.…
  • My opinion - its fun but a) I like to get right to business and theres a lot of extra time involved in getting it started, time between moves, time between segments, stuff loading...i dunno. I like to work out for an hour and if I worked out for an hour on the Wii Fit, it would take about an hour and 15 minutes for setup…

  • Yay!!! :) So happy for you!!! And yes you do look great in the dress AND the Robinette costume! :) Props to my BFF! Just don't get to 125 before me! :)
  • Tea and coffee are ok though in small amounts
  • Yes it is. but if this is related to your topic, DON'T drink it thinking it will help with water weight gain. It has chemicals and other stuff in it (along with sodium most of the time) that cause water retention as well (which is why you always feel bloated after drinking them)
  • I went from being a soda addict to realizing I was really a carbonation addict. So I started drinking flavored sparkling waters and then finally just switched to real water. Every time I have a sip of soda, I feel the same way as you!

  • As a personal trainer, I've had clients lose doing low carb, doing low fat, those that lost and didnt want to stop eating junk food but stayed within a calorie range. In the end, a calorie is a calorie. As long as output is greater than input, you will have weight loss.
  • I would worry about 24g of processed sugar. No one ever gained a ton of weight because of fruit and (most) yogurts. But if you know you're eating ice cream or something, I would look at the sugar in something along those lines because its synthetic. When it comes to natural sugar, I really don't take that into account that…
  • I really recommend getting a heart rate monitor, at least long enough to see how the MFP numbers add up and tweak them, then you can return it. But otherwise, I add it as circuit training.
  • I count everything within that time a) its too much trouble to stop/start every time I move around and b) it will calculate your HR and calories according to your activity, so its not like its counting 90 mins of heartpumping activity and youre cheating it. Its counting 70 minutes of heartpumping activity and 20 mins of…
  • I get bell peppers of all different colors, chop em up, throw em in the quinoa with a few sprinkles of feta, some sliced black olives, diced tomatoes, and lime juice, i use mrs. dash garlic and herb or original for seasoning....citrus veggie quinoa
  • As a former morning workout-er, I can totally relate to this post. I realized that I just wanted to kick back and relax when I got off work and would fill the time by watching tv and being bored. So I changed my routine to afternoon workouts. I get to sleep in later, stay up later at night (so I still get in my tv time)…
  • Well both are related and there's no easy way to know the GI number for each food. So I would say try to watch your sugar intake. On MFP, they have 25g of sugar as the recommended daily intake. I try to go no more than double this. I eat lots of fruits and veggies so a lot of it is natural sugar (which is digested by your…
  • I put it on a pita pizza. I take those chicken tenderloins as mentioned above, toss them in hot sauce and coat them with finely crushed Baked Lays BBQ flavor. Put it on a Joseph's Bakery low-carb flax seed pita, tomato sauce, lace it with Frank's, top with the chicken strips and low fat skim mozz. Put it in the oven for 10…
  • I'm in the same boat. No one takes exercise and nutrition as seriously as I do because I include it in my daily routine. I'm studying to be a certified personal trainer and a nutrition/wellness consultant! I'll add you! We can keep each other accountable!
  • Wooo! Thanks for the Beachbody coach shoutouts, ladies! Proud to be one!! And congrats to both of you on making it through so far on Insanity! What an accomplishment! It truly is a challenge, but there is no better feeling than finishing a round and knowing that you did the unthinkable!! :) Keep pressing play!!
  • I am also 10 pounds from my goal weight. I did this for 3 weeks before getting sidetracked and lost 5 pounds and several inches. I was able to slim down my outer and inner thighs along with my saddlebags and backside. It definitely targets those and works different angles than just squats and lunges. Plus its really fun! I…
