Do you mind if I ask you what kind of strength training your wife moved to so that it wouldn't interfere with her running? I run and cycle and am just starting up strength training but I'm concerned about it affecting my rides/runs.

Thanks very much for your replies guys, it's actually really helpful. I think I'll start with some compound lifts twice a week (not too heavy), and if I struggle with squats I'll concentrate more on upper body/push/pull/core work. But hopefully I'll manage a full range of compound lifts twice a week, and continue to bike…

I started getting the dinners for when I had dinner at work (shift worker). But now I still keep a few in the freezer and have them 2 or 3 nights a week because I enjoy them and because it's a controlled portion size etc. I don't have any issues with sodium. I've got 5 or 6 dinners that are my favourite and they are…

Thank you ephiemarie and lemurcat12 for sharing your similar experiences, that's really helpful.

Yes that would be an option. I could maybe catch the train to work one day a week.

I start work early in the morning, so to fit my lifting in it needs to be after work (after riding home) not before. Thanks for your post.

Thanks guys. Definitely sounds like I should start lifting again then! I don't want to stop my riding to work (it's a good way for me to 'move more' and burn some calories). I'll never break any speed records with my running! But I'd like to try and do the half marathon next year in about 2 hours. But I've only just built…

Yeah maybe I'll concentrate on anything other than legs!

Oh no! What happened to the rest of my post?! I basically said that I feel like I should do some strength training/lifting to help lose fat rather than muscle, and to help with overall body shape. My concern is I cycle to work every day (12k each way) and I run 2 or 3 times a week (1 or 2 lunchtimes, 5-6km, and I'm up to…

I have the dinners and do the rest myself (I can make sure breakfast/snacks etc are high in protein eg Greek yogurt) and I find it's a great balance. I don't know about the breakfast/lunch/snacks but with the dinners it's worth really checking out which options you choose as some are a lot higher in calories or protein etc…

I'm in Australia and I buy them from my local supplement store (in Brisbane) and have also seen them in stores in Melbourne CBD although the price varied in those. I've also ordered them from lowcarbcentral.com.au previously.

The supplement store near me in Brisbane sells them, and I've also seen them sold in several shops in Melbourne CBD. So they are fairly few and far between but they are out there!

Hi Ladies, Just after a bit of advice really. I'm about to go on holiday to England (from Australia) for my sister's wedding and to see all my family (I'm English originally). We'll be away for 4 weeks, and I can't wait!! But I was wondering what I should do in terms of getting back to SL when I get back. Realistically I'm…

Well 75kg 1x5 but yeah true. I'll try again next time. Maybe it won't be glued to the floor next time?!

Had to force myself to work out this morning, woke up with a headache and just feeling a bit bleurgh. Typical when I finally get a day off work! But sucked it up and did: Squats - got 5x5 at 52.5kg (115.7lb apparently) for the first time. Just! Took some grimacing and probably looking like I was going to burst a blood…

Great work ladies! Yesterday was meant to be lifting day for me, I was working an 8am to 4pm shift and planning on lifting after work. But it ended up being a looooong day at work and I didn't finish until gone 10pm  (but hey, there's one more very nasty baddie locked up! Enjoy prison you dirty rotten ped!). But…

Hmm, possibly not resting enough in between sets in hindsight. Patience has never been one of my strong points! I'll try that next time, thanks.

Thanks for all the congrats on DLing by body weight last time! Some of you ladies lift amazing weights! I'm in awe! Today for squats I did 5x5 at 47.5kg (apparently 104.7lb in old money) which was the first time I'd managed 5x5 at that weight. Just couldn't do it for OHP today! I'm at 25kg (55lb) and could only do…

I deadlifted my body weight for the first time today!

Hi Everyone, I've been a lurker on here for a while, so thought maybe I'd brave up and say hi ???? I'm Emma. I'm a Brit but married to an Aussie and I've been living here in Brisbane, Australia for 5.5 years now. I am a Police Officer, actually a detective working in child abuse. Think Law and Order SVU, except less…

I buy Lite N Easy but just the dinners (not the whole day of food thing). As a shift worker (Detective) it means I always have a healthy option when I'm working in the evenings - a lot of my workmates get takeaway on an evening shift. I just heat up one of my dinners. I am really impressed with the food! It tastes great!…

I did prettÿ much exactly the same in the end! Yesterday I bought a standard bar and some weights, and also a squat rack! The big buff scary looking guys in the shop looked very intimidating but were actually really lovely and helpful. And even gave me a Police discount :-) I did my first workout this morning! Jeez, it was…

Thanks for that, that's really helpful.

Okay so I've realised I definitely need to invest in some equipment if I'm going to be doing this at home (which I will have to). I'm just trying to work out what I need to buy? A barbell (does it need to be Olympic size?) A squat rack for the barbell Weights to go on it (some are sold with 50kg of weights and some with…

Thanks heaps for all of that info, I really appreciate it. I'll have a good read through :-)

Thanks for your reply. I'd certainly consider buying a barbell weight set (what's a squat rack?) if I need to, and if I can clear enough room in my spare bedroom for it!
