  • Thanks for sharing. That is one amazing inspiring journey! Now we hunger for more pics. :flowerforyou:
  • That is exactly what I started doing as well. I have struggled with OHP even at 45lbs and I considered myself pretty strong before starting SL. So I increase the reps until I can do a lot and then I'd consider moving up the weight.
  • Finally, something! :flowerforyou: A whole 9 pages and almost zero pics!
  • Good to know cause yesterday was spent in finding ways I don't have hip flexor pain. I did squats on Wed with puny weight but still apparently they didn't like it. I noticed crossing legs is a big no no as it totally aggravates the pain. Thanks for the feedback!
  • Oh no no, I was diagnosed and had an MRI but from looking at the scan results it could also be something else. I mean the Dr. glossed over it briefly and from talking to physical therapists and researching it arthroscopic surgery isn't always successful for labral tears in the hip. Unfortunately, I also don't have…
  • I noticed that when I start warming up with just the bar the discomfort in the hip flexors is there, but then when I add weight it gets easier. So maybe I need longer warm up? I'll try watching my pain level vs soreness and see if I need to deload to just the bar. I'll aslo try the plates under heels. Pintobean - thanks…
  • Hmm, I've never thought of it. Labrum tear is the tear in the ring of soft elastic tissue, called the labrum, that follows the outside rim of the socket of the hip joint. The labrum acts like a socket to hold the ball at the top of your thighbone (femur) in place. I've had it for years and again I'm not 100% sure I have…
  • Awesome list! Thank you! I've never heard of some of these or seen them done I think. :embarassed:
  • Thanks ladies. You're fantabulous! jstout - that's a good idea with progressive lifts. I also haven't been stretching is sufficiently and I probably should invest in a rolling foam. bumble - yeah, I completely agree and that's why my squats are still at 70. I'm taking it extra slow, but I could do what jstout suggests and…
  • Squat 90 Bench 85 Row 90 OHP 50 (I've been stuck at 40 for 4 weeks so any gain is a victory) Deadlift 105 Inteval training once a week Yoga twice a week Eat when hungry but allow a day or two a week to splurge Consistent sleeping schedule Research accessory lifts to add to workout Other: lose 3-5 pounds but I'd be happier…
  • I started SL 4 weeks ago and although my progression is slow, I prefer it over NROLFW, which I read 3 weeks ago. There's a ton of good info but I couldn't see myself remembering to also carry a notebook and write all of that down and try to maneuver around the gym to various locations needed for the different exercises. It…
  • I'd be curious to hear what he says.
  • I'm having issues with my hip flexors (I posted a separate topic about this) so I'm not increasing much on my squats. I probably need to figure out accessory work for that. I'm having a hard time figuring out what to add where in terms of accessory work. I'm just doing straight SL 5X5 cause I don't know what else to fit in…
  • Hi all, great idea! I'm Alisa. I'll be 35 in a month. I currently live in NYC, in Brooklyn to be more specific, and have been for the past 6 years. I moved here from Portland, OR to pursue acting. I lived in Oregon for 7 years. I was born in Belarus, former USSR, my parents immigrated to Israel when I was 12. I graduated…
  • I noticed today that the dudes all over the area were staring at me and my stacked weights. I thoroughly enjoyed that.
  • I'll look into wrist wraps. Thank you! I increased both my bench and barbell row today and the wrist isn't acting up as much. Yay!
  • Thanks ladies for the tips! I'll try no gloves or maybe different gloves. I just don't want to hurt my wrists because it's been hurting, only the right one, since Friday and the right elbow feels like something is pulling it.
  • Success! I figured out how I'm squatting and I'm going below parallel and I was spreading my knees like a bad girl. lol And my knee didn't hurt. Yay! Actually, one of those burly men complimented my form! I still have a weird issue with holding the bar really low on my back. I'm pretty flexible but it feels like my arms…
  • Did you read Tameko's sticky post (link below)? It's an amazing breakdown of SL 5X5. Just follow what she says, watch the videos, and head to the gym. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/560459-stronglifts-5x5-summary
  • I found 55 lbs the last set to be slightly difficult. It's hard to tell if I'm going parallel or below without someone watching me (those darn burly men aren't a good judge based on the squats I saw them do so I'm not even asking for the fear of getting unnecessary advice). Based on what you'er saying below, I think I'll…
  • Thanks tameko! I figured my TDEE -20% to be 1600. But I'll see how it goes for the next couple of weeks and adjust as necessary. Awesome suggestions on form. I'll definitely work on it tomorrow. Another question popped in to my head as I'm still working on form. Should I increase my squats by 5lbs tomorrow or still work on…
  • Thanks for such amazing feedback and support! How come I haven't found this type of community before? Oh yeah, I was smart trying to do things on my own. Fail. I like the geeky fitness stuff. I just have terrible memory and organizing information into usable format apparently isn't my forte. I already have a question about…
  • What a fabulous idea! Thank you!
  • From the posts that I've seen by you, it looks like you know EXACTLY what you're doing. I personally don't know how to put a proper program together (all the info on push/pull, work opposite muscles, blah blah blah) isn't solidifying itself into anything comprehensive in my head but a bunch of mush and I just don't…
  • Thank you! I'll check it out.
  • Amazing! Thanks so much for such a detailed reply. I have a follow up question: is it important to not do cardio on the same day you lift? I do cardio after lifting and take a full rest day to rest or do yoga. Also, what do you think of the Beautiful Badass program? Is it something to consider later? Again, thank you thank…
  • Wow, how quick and awesome all of you are!!! Thank you! I see it all depends on your goals. Mine are to lose fat, increase my metabolic rate, get tighter/firmer and stronger. There's so much information out there and it's starting to overwhelm me, so I really appreciate the clear advice.
  • Going to start it tomorrow!
