  • Honestly, I have nursed four babies for over a year each, and I have never had supply issues from calorie adjustment. Then again, I always gain quite a bit while pregnant. Pregnancy weight gain is your body's stored insurance for breastfeeding. You only need to add the calories if you don't have adequate body fat. The most…
  • Thank you for this post! Seeing that struggles still happen after being on the right path for so long is something we all need to be mindful of. I am sure you don't have to worry too much, because you already know what works for you and how to get back there...that's half the battle! I wish I had some advice about the…
  • Yes, the problem is with him, that was part of my point. He seeks an exit rather than help when there are relationship issues, but I didn't think airing all that was particularly relevant to this thread. You are right, so thank you, but this isn't about me. And I'm 5'2", so I am really very short. :)
  • I was hesitant to respond to this because it has seemed to ignite a lot of emotional responses, but I will go ahead and take a chance. OP, I also have four children, but they are all with my husband of 11.5 years. My weight has gone up and down with each baby, and then up and down because of life with four kids. My husband…
  • I'm starting again, myself! I would love some friends for motivation and support! :)
  • My kids pretty much only ever want sandwiches, so I usually make them pb&j or some combo of meat and cheese. For myself, I love experimenting with new protein smoothies (especially since I usually work out right before lunch). Otherwise, I will have leftovers or cook a ground beef patty or a chicken breast with plenty of…
  • If I wasn't concerned bout my weight or health, I could probably live on nothing but pad thai and brownie sundaes for at least a year. :embarassed:
  • I always lose in my upper body first, but gain in the hips and thighs.
  • I believe it should help. I always felt horribly deprived at such low calorie levels, and would get fatigued very easily. It's much much easier to be active when you are giving yourself adequate fuel!
  • It really depends on what you do at the gym. If you are just walking on a treadmill, it's fine. If you are doing heavy duty cardio and lifting, you need a rest. If you want to go every day, make sure a couple of those days are easy. As another poster said, active recovery is a good thing. :)
  • Hunger is tough to beat at the beginning of a diet. It takes a couple weeks to go away, but until then there are a couple things you can do. First off, drinking a ton of water helps a lot more than you'd think. One glass may not be enough. I usually drink about 24-32 ounces before I have breakfast. Also, you really should…
  • I would order the grilled salmon with lemon and basil, but you may want to ask to make sure what else might be in that sauce...a lot of times they will use butter to carry the flavors, which can add quite a few calories. For sides, stick to the fresh fruit and vegetables, salad, or broth-based soup. Good luck!
  • I got a Mirena placed at my 6 week postpartum visit to my midwife after the birth of my third child. I thought it was great for a long time...no period, no worries, no nothing. Unfortunately, I actually WAS having side effects, I just didn't know the were Mirena-related until everything else was ruled out. I was angry ALL…
  • Thank you all so much for the motivation and tips! I really appreciate it! :)

  • I think that any way of eating that doesn't allow treats sometimes is doomed to fail! Of course, all the other posters made really good points. I try to make my treats more nutrient-dense. I made sugar free chocolate peanut butter fudge balls last night and they are amazing! I melted cream cheese, unsweetened chocolate,…
  • You could get an online certification, but most employers are looking for a degree in a related field. Regardless, nutrition and exercise science can be pretty math and science intensive. Also, any kind of certification you get requires continuing education credits to keep active. Good luck in whatever you decide!
  • I agree with the lifestyle change comment. If all you can think about is "cheating", you should find a way to think of it differently. I believe wholeheartedly in planning ahead for a special treat and including it. I like to take one day a month where I treat myself to something special. I try to plan it around holidays…
  • A while back, I went to Freddy's Frozen Custard and got the smallest concrete they had. I got home and looked it up...over 900 calories! I could've had like an entire pint of Ben and Jerry's! Needless to say, I probably will never go back.
  • I tried to, I really did. Unfortunately, I really just cannot stand the taste. I used one packet and was so grossed out that I tossed the rest of the box. I also notice a bad taste in other generic-brand artificial sweeteners. For some reason, regular Splenda and Sweet n Low don't bother me. I still limit my consumption as…
  • I try to eliminate everything processed from my diet (especially white flour and sugar). However, I do let myself have up to 3 packets worth of sucralose (Splenda) each day. My reasoning is that I use much less than I would for an equal sweetening power of sugar. I definitely document it, though, as it contains small…
  • I am on a low-carb diet, so mashed potatoes are out for me, too. I found a recipe at SugarFreeSheila.com/RecipesPage.html There are a bunch of really tasty recipes there!
