Fair enough.

Some of your freinds may have had other health or family stuff they needed to deal with. Maybe they liked another diet app better or moved to a cave with no internet. Maybe they have been hospitalised, or lost all their weight some other way and decided MFP wasn't for them. Maybe some are dead, married, or went to the…

Wow! Mine varies by up to 4lb depending on floor, but 30lb - there's something wrong with it, maybe in the journey something got stuck in the mechanism.

Cooked foods can be gentler than raw, so to get accustomed to some fruits and veg cook them well. You like soup, so blend well cooked veggies into a soup. Build up gradually. And avoid beans if you're not used to them - gently does it!

Thanks, that's really informative. Most days then I am low or lightly active, but when I work all day I am sedentary. I guess I could just adjust my calories on a daily basis! I did the goals thingy on mfp based on lightly active, and it tells me to eat 1310 calories a day for a 1lb loss. Ouch. :(

The thing is, capitalism is a system which sells us stuff we don't need or want, regardless of whether or not it's good for our bodies or minds. It sold you easily available, tasty food that was bad for you, and made you fatter. Now it has sold you coloured plastic cups to make you thinner. Next week someone will try to…

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to look into fitbit, it sounds it would work for me. In the mean time I am going to set mfp to sedentary, and then manually add the steps tracked by my phone as extra calories, and see how I go. I'm in no mad rush, so if after a couple of weeks I'm not losing I'll try a different…

It sounds like your 'healthy' diet is maybe too restrictive, which makes it hard to stick to amd makes you tired? Maybe you should be gentler on yourself, have a few mor calories and treats, and try and see it as a lifestyle shift rather than a diet.

Ho do you deal with general activity? I guess what I'm not sure is, how can I count excercise calories when they are not set workouts or periods of activity, but just 'on my feel most of the day'?
-
Possibly! I don't know the difference! :embarassed: I just went on some site someone linked to and it came out with that...

I feel like some days my like is 1000 mini-walks - like, run upstairs with the wasking, take the rubbish out, pop to the postbox, etc etc. Then other days - none of that, because when my husband is in charge of the kids he does it all! I did think about logging each tiny activity but I can't see it being possible.
-
Yes I have heard of them - do they tell MFP automatically how much you have burned so it increases your cals automatically?
-
Is that a seperate pedometer like a fitbit?
-
Brilliant, all that's great - obviously some indian food experts here! DH is ordering right now. Yum.

I'm vegetarian!

Thanks both, I will check those out.

yip, I have just looked at that and there are loads, I wasn't sure which one would be best! That's why I was hoping for reccomendations! Do you use one? Which do you prefer for walking / day to day activity (rather than logging workouts)?
-
Normally we would order vegetable biryani; veg korma; saag aloo; naan. Sometimes another dish too. I share with my husband and there's usually leftovers, I am NOT having naan, I know that's really calorific; and I guess the korma is a bad idea so I will only have a little. I don't like super-spicy, so mild or medium.

So why not increase calories gradually back to normal levels, at the same time as keeping up a sensible activity level. The human body is amazing, your metabolism will heal itself if you give it time by just increasing gradually.
-
I'm pretty sure that everyone will tell you that 800 cals is way too low, and unsustainable.

I logged onto mfp wanting to lose weight. I entered my stats and it told me to eat 1200 calories a day. I had no idea that the number was very low - I had never paid any attention to calories before. In my case, I was just trusting the website to tell me what I needed to eat - it was only when I found it so awful I looked…

little bump?

When I started mfp my baby was around the same age. I just accepted what mfp told me - that I should eat 1200 per day. After 2 days I felt downright ill - shake, tearful, hungry and like I had less milk. I moved up to 1700 and felt much, much better, and lost 1 lb per week. I also was limited to walking with the buggy as…

Is textured veg protein like soya mince? I use soya mince and sometimes quorn mince to make spag bol, and I should probably branch out into making other recipies with it too. Yes, I eat a lot of kidney and butter beans (in chilli mainly) so should use them and lentils more.

The thought of being here to see my kids grow up Seeing my parents struggle with weight-related illness PLanning what to wear next christmas / birthday / holiday Wanting to feel like 'myself' again Wanting my family to be really impressed and amazed My husband

Thanks Kyla. What's barilla pasta and what's kashi? Special K is pretty sugary, or at least the 'normal one is - don't know if that applies to the protein one? I'm at risk of diabetes because of family history, so try to steer clear - though cheerios are a fatal weakness of mine and full of sugar!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have never tried Seitan (just looked it up on wikipedia - the tin of mock duck looks a bit ew, but it seems it comes in many forms!). I eat tofu sometimes (should probably try to eat more of that too) so next time I'm in town I'll see if the health food shop stocks seitan as well. I don't…

Thanks for your suggestions. No, I very very rarely eat fish (usually out of politeness!) and I'd rather not make it a regular part of my diet. I have not liked cottage cheese in the past but maybe I will try it again - often I think trying things a few times can bring the taste buds round. More lentils is a good idea - I…

Ha, I did not read the thread before I posted, but lots of people have given you the same advice!

I'm the same height and started at 143lb. I'm moderately active (just walking to and from school etc pushing the buggy) and I'm breastfeeding twice a day. I tried 1200 for 2 days and it made me feel really ill. I have to be well enough to care for my kids, and in fact it put me right off MFP for a few weeks. Now I am…
