  • First off, congrats on your achievement so far - losing 80lbs+ is an amazing result! And it looks like you're so close to your goal that it would certainly be a shame if you self-sabotage now. A couple other responses have mentioned that this may be more mental than physical (e.g. feelings of deprivation as opposed to…
  • Sometimes you need a little something to get yourself kick started into better habits. So that detox may be just the thing to give you the boost you need. As you've already prepared yourself for it, and it's only 10 days, go for it! I hope it goes well. Certainly couldn't hurt you. Commit to the 10 days and go for it!
  • Baby steps... Make small changes as you go along and as you start to see results you should feel more motivated. But don't expect too much too soon. My biggest tip would be more water. If you're not already drinking it, do that. I find that on days when I don't drink enough, I tend to eat more. I aim for the 8 glasses…
  • Hi Katrina, You're singing exactly the same song I was singing about a month ago. Very similar story... Just over a year ago, I had lost 20lbs (half of my goal). Then I hit a busy time at work, stopped logging and started gaining back. Yup... 20+. I was feeling down and kept wondering why wasn't my dislike of what I see in…
  • An article on this topic came up on my newsfeed today... Apparently you CAN retrain your brain to want some foods less. Unfortunately this article doesn't say how: https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/2014/09/train-your-brain-to-crave-healthy-foods-yes-its-possible/?utm_source=mfp&utm_medium=Facebook
  • Okay, one more clarification then: when I say crap, it's my acronym for Carbs that are Refined And Processed - all those lovely tasting sugary and salty goodies that come in pretty shiny boxes and wrappers that call out to us from the supermarket shelves, or our own fridge or cupboard. Like @Annie's Cheez-Its. We all have…
  • Thanks for your feedback. I read the article about detoxes and have to say, I completely agree. Just to clarify, this 'detox' was more about finding out if I have any intolerances, allergies or addictions, and I also saw it as a way to kick start me back into tracking my food and exercise, because this worked for me…
  • Yes. Yes I do! Often. Over and over. But then I try to say something nice to myself to be encouraged, and then get on with it. Taking it off is most definitely not as easy as putting it on was.
  • Room for one more? I've been slacking for about six weeks now and need something to get me off my butt. Haven't done too badly weight-wise considering how lazy I've been. But with the holiday season coming up fast, it's really time to get back on track. Time to stop with the excuses and get my mojo back. Thank you!
  • Definitely interested. Please send info. Thanks!
  • I am stuck on an island... Oh wait, it has an airport so not really stuck... but I have everything I need... as long as the cargo ships keep running.
  • Leftovers. I cook dinner most nights and always make extra for hubby and I to take for lunch the next day (or two). I like the Recipe feature on this site so I know how many calories are in my meals for as many servings as I make. Otherwise it ends up being salad...
  • Completely agree WalleyMama. We're absolutely on the same page. For me, it's gotta be sustainable. I lost a few lbs on a low carb diet. Then, as seems to be the trend, gained it all back and then some when I started eating 'normally' again. And you get an 'Amen' from this choir on the Starbucks cookie! One of the reasons I…
  • I think you're right... It is that simple. However, there's a lot of research that shows that some foods are worse for us than others. Absolutely does not mean that all of us who are trying to lose weight are going to cut all of them out. But as far as good advice goes, I think those points are sound. Yes, you can lose…
  • I was confused by #11 too. Is he talking about water weight or losing muscle mass possibly (shrinking vs growing as in #25)? Love #24. Must do more of that! And some more squats and lunges too... Thank you!
  • Actually, this is a great place to ask a question... Lots of people seem to do that here... Pray, pray and pray. And remember that food is required to nourish your temple. It's also something we're allowed to enjoy. When I've restricted what foods I allow myself to eat, that's when I want those foods and start getting…
  • Although during my work day is the best time for me to get my workout in, there's really not enough time to go to the gym at lunch time, get changed, get in a 'decent' work out and then have to shower and dress to go back to work, and still feel all sweaty all afternoon. And plus, I'm just so busy at work. I'll go after I…
  • Wow! This thread has opened the flood gates! I didn't lose the weight after my second pregnancy as easily as I did after my first. And then I kept gaining, but still blamed it on 'baby weight'. I hovered around 180/size 16 for quite a while, but wasn't really happy about this. Then started noticing my clothes were getting…
  • I weigh in weekly. This month, I had gained 1 lb just before it started. A week later I was down 3 lbs. Also get moody, tender, lethargic and big time into the salty snacks! Sometimes wonder how the scale manages to goes back down considering the amount of junk I consume!
  • Hi Tina, yes please. Count me in. Sending request now. Original goal was 50lbs. 20 down so far. But starting to lose momentum and drive. Hope I'm not too late... Thanks!
  • I don't think I'm in the 'lost so much' category... yet... but I can relate to how you're feeling. I need to remind myself on a daily (hourly..., minutely..., secondly!) basis why I want to lose weight/get healthy. Lots of the time I listen to myself... Sometimes I don't. What others say may help inspire me and keep me…
  • That study wasn't about over-weight people losing weight but about what would happen to average Joe who may soon be starving in post-war Europe. Not sure what they planned to do about all those crazy Europeans forced to eat grass, but at least they knew what they might be dealing with! The first epidsode said fad diets…
  • I'm certainly in a similar situation as you... lots of good intentions (the ones they say pave the road the hell?!?) but not enough follow through. I too have a rarely used gym membership. My poor excuse... I hate having to fit my workout into 30 mins then getting showered and changed to come back to work... But mornings…
  • Sounds like it's time for you to find someone who likes you the way you are now, not 5 or 10lbs from now. If he wants a S.I. model, let him try to find one. I feel really irritated by this because I'm 5'6.5" and 145lbs is my target weight! The question shouldn't be should you lose weight because he things so. How do YOU…
  • I've been on MFP for nearly two months and try to log stuff every day, but sometimes life happens... The thing I love most about this site is how aware it's made me of what I'm eating (how much mainly!). I don't have bundles of friends on here and am wondering myself what makes a good MFP friend. Not going *poof* obviously…
  • Can I stand next to you then... I wouldn't mind catching some abs like that!!! If only it was that easy...
  • Add me! Add me! Just turned 43 (with as many pounds to lose as I have years behind me) and have been loving this site for just over a month now. Welcome on board!
  • I absolutley log food before I've eaten it. It's all part of planning the day. I love the old saying "if you fail to plan then plan to fail". I bring my lunch and snacks to work with me and there's very little chance I won't each what I've brought. So I get it all logged as soon as I have a moment to spare. If, for…
  • plain old water is best. but get your liquids as you can. I like a small squeeze of lemon juice in mine and drink it at room temperature. what is your favourite fruit? Slice it up and put it in a jug of water. leave for a little while and then enjoy the natural flavor in that dreaded water - strawberries, apples, oranges,…
