I'm thinking about starting a prep this week actually... I've never competed before, but have been wanting to for awhile. Any advice/support would be greatly appreciated!

I train at my university gym and get corrected alllllll the time. Usually it's because I'm the only or one of few females in the weight room and the guys either want to talk or feel the need to show how great they are. The advice is usually unsolicited, and most of the time incorrect (I had one kind gentleman correct my…

From what I've seen MFP doesn't set calories appropriately for most people... I would calculate your bmr and tdee out yourself and if you have a heart rate monitor use that to see what you're burning otherwise estimate exercise cals.

I'm going to say probably...

If you're eating under your maintenance you will lose weight, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's healthy. Your body needs more than protein to function. Any diet you begin should include enough proteins, carbs, and fats for your body to work properly. As simply as possible, without enough of these nutrients your body…

Basically this. If you're doing squats correctly they shouldn't hurt or damage your knees, but most people do them incorrectly

I've follow IIFYM and have had success... It can be complicated when you first start to hit them right, but it can be a great plan to follow

Other than a physical therapist, a chiropractor might be a good idea... my boyfriend had symptoms like you're describing to the point he couldn't walk and the chiro helped a ton. As for exercise, its a good idea with back pain to have a doctor clear you first and a physical therapist can recommend corrective exercises that…

For most people compound movements are the what would be most beneficial to focus on, but isolations have their place and purpose. If you're injured, have imbalances, bodybuilding/composition goals, or such isolations are helpful. They can also help with weak points in your compound movements.

I agree with everyone who is suggesting strength training which will definitely change your body composition. Also if you're only holding fat on your lower stomach and not anywhere else it can be partly diet and/or stress related. Stress can cause you to hold extra fat specifically on your lower stomach, so can a lack of…

I'm a personal trainer (ACSM certified) and think it really depends on the trainer when it comes to whether or not it will be worth it. If the trainer is good, it's worth the money but if they aren't then it won't be. Of course, you're commitment is important as well, but it sounds like you're doing great with that.

I've felt this way before. I came to realize I felt better when I looked nice. Even when I didn't feel like it I took the time to make myself at least presentable, and I was happier once I did. As for weight loss, it's so much easier to take care of a body you love and appreciate no matter what the size. I'm still trying…

I'm in :) Just got back from a week out of town and need to get back on track!

Make sure your trainer is personalizing the plan they suggest to you and your goals as opposed to suggesting the same plan for every client (which obviously means they take the time to listen to and understand your goals, time frame, lifestyle, ect). Also, look for someone with a recognized certification or educational…

hard boiled and eat alone or on salads or whatever, "healthy" deviled eggs, everyone thinks this is gross... but for breakfast I'll mix egg whites in oats with peanut butter and fruit (I like to use raspberries) it's better than it sounds.

It sounds like you're off to a great start, like others said- make sure you're drinking enough water, eating enough to maintain your body function, and incorporating compound movements into your exercise plan (moves that work more than one body part at a time). Also, it's important to keep in mind that one pound of body…

This isn't about weight, but rather the comment you made about seeing yourself as different than others see you... Has anyone watched the video of the FBI (i believe) sketch artist who has a woman describe herself and sketches her (he can't see her at the time) and has a stranger who met the woman briefly describe her...…
