I hope some MFP people will contribute!

Set a personal rule that you can only have 1 beer for every hour you work out each week. Budget for whatever your "usual" beer consumption is at breakfast (throw your dinner beer on MFP right away) and that way you don't reach "dinner beer time" and have no calories left for it

What are his scores? What are his required scores?

Close, but it almost sounds like you are suggesting that an obese person can't starve to death. Even if you weighed 400lbs, it's not like you can drink water and eat a multivitamin and be healthy because your body will just live off of fat. It's too bad humans can't hibernate :( We'd fatten up over the holidays and come…

Sounds to me like your scale is awful. Maybe get a better one? If you weight 150 and that scale is +/- a pound and a half, you are basically off 1% every time. That would be too inaccurate for me.

The thread says that she is diagnosed with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's disease http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashimoto%27s_thyroiditis It's genetic. Hashimoto's causes hypothyroidism. It wasn't her starvation, it was most likely a result of losing the genetic lottery. That's all there is to it.

The OP of that thread has hyperthyroidism, a disease that causes you to gain weight and retain water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothyroidism It's hardly a good example of a healthy person experiencing weight gain from ingesting too few calories.

You understood it correctly

Also found this Dartmouth Medical School article: http://dms.dartmouth.edu/news/2002_h2/08aug2002_water.shtml Quote from the article: "Thirst Is Too Late. It is often stated that by the time people are thirsty, they are already dehydrated. On the contrary, thirst begins when the concentration of blood (an accurate…

"It is a common misconception that everyone should drink two litres (68 ounces, or about eight 8-oz glasses) of water per day and is not supported by scientific research. Various reviews of all the scientific literature on the topic performed in 2002 and 2008 could not find any solid scientific evidence that recommended…

Please keep in mind that the average bowel movements for humans is in the range of 3 times per day to once every 3 days. It's a huge span, and everything in that range can be considered "healthy". Your gut bacteria play a huge role in your personal nutrition and is considered by many experts to be the "lost organ" because…

I'll try to find the study source, but usually when you lose weight from being sick you are actually losing LMM (lean muscle mass). That's why it's hard to "gain" it back afterwards.

If you are curious about this, look up "Sugar: The Bitter Truth" on youtube! Fructose isn't very good for you, but the fiber in fruit helps negate it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM

I wasn't just referring to you :) I agree with you that pure water is excellent for you, and I think we agree on that other point - Regular and diet beverages have plenty of disadvantages, but if you aren't thirsty after your 8 Coke Zero's a day, you don't need to go home and chug 8 glasses of water before bed. Peeing more…

I am not a doctor, and I am not advising that you run to a health store and purchase this before you consult a doctor. I know a few people that use Psyllium husks to...er..."improve" their bowel function, which usually runs amock when taking protein and other supplements. I think it's soluble so they can throw them in…

Sorry, but this thread is getting ridiculous. You get water from TONS of sources - almost everything you eat and drink adds water. Diet drinks, non-diet drinks, coffee, tea, vegetables, bread...basically anything that isn't DEhydrated will give your body water! Caffeinated drinks do NOT, in any significant way, DEHYDRATE…

I am not a doctor, but I would not recommend taking a pain killer. Your body is trying to tell you that it has been damaged, and by artificially ignoring the pain you could continue to hurt yourself even more.

I would advise you to shop around. I have used the kind where you actually screw mounts into your door frame and it was quite sturdy. I currently use one of the off-brand ones that "hangs" from your door frame. If you don't have the correct width doors, with the right trim around them, with about 4 inches to spare on…

Most likely you are just feeling DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). It should go away as your body becomes accustomed to the routine. Be prepared for it to return when you switch it up :) If it is actually PAINFUL soreness, you may have hurt yourself.

Go to a reputable running shoe store and have them check your stride and ensure that you have the correct shoes for your training.

Have an online community for sharing trails/routes. Allow users to artificially add distances/speeds (ergs or bike trainers). Built in timers for intervals, including a warmup/cooldown phase. Some of those apps you listed have amazing weightlifting functionality. Animated demonstrations of form for lifts, the abilty to…

Make sure that you recalculate your current BMR using your current weight. Congrats on your loss!

Thank you MSF74. Excellent post.

It's funny because already stickied are posts that say that Starvation Mode is when you restrict calories to much, you start gaining weight! The sticky is "LINKS in MFP you want to read again (and again)" http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/777-why-is-starvation-mode-so-bad…

Take 5 seconds and do a MFP search for "starvation mode gain weight". "Thwart their weight loss"? You mean gain weight? Or do you mean "stop losing weight"? Maybe you mean "lose weight less quickly than if they ate more calories? Or do you mean, the rate of weight loss gradually becomes less significant the more calories…

Extreme starvation may lead to an increase in size of the stomach. This is called Kwashiorkor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwashiorkor You may have seen this when looking at pictures of starving Ethiopian children.
-
To be clear: What 75% (my estimate) of MFP users would define "Starvation Mode" as... THAT, I do not believe in. Testimonials, anecdotal evidence, all of it means NOTHING in my opinion. Show me scientific evidence of a starving person that gains weight as a direct result of their starvation.

I agree that no matter how immature she is, she is 20 years old and should be permitted to do what she wants. If you aren't okay with it, make her move out so she can stay up late at her own place. If you are paying for her phone and the texts annoy you, make her get her own phone plan. If her staying up late with the…
