  • I've been drinking Lady Grey tea recently (like Earl Grey but with orange, lemon and bergamot rather than just the bergamot). I can drink and enjoy it without needing to add milk or sweetner which is important to me as I still haven't found a sweetner that I like.
  • I have a problem with iron tablets as well. I had a haemorrhage after I had a C-Section and was a bit anaemic even after a transfusion. The consultant suggested I took a double dose of Spatone which is a watery iron supplement. It is a bit pricey, but I was able to tolerate it fine.
  • Everybody Hurts - R.E.M.
  • Life on Mars - David Bowie
  • I used to drink it without any problems when I was younger, but when I was pregnant I started getting palpitations after only one caffeinated tea or coffee. So I went decaff. I tried reintroducing it after baby was born, but it still had the same effect. I've just stuck with decaff which isn't really a hardship.
  • I used the slow carb diet about 5 years ago with good success for about the first 30lb or so when I hit a plateau. It is pretty much just paleo + legumes (except for the cheat day) - although many of the paleo guru types are not as anti legumes as they were a few years ago. Although I loved the cheat day I did find it hard…
  • This. I have bought a few sets of measuring spons in the UK and they appear to follow this. 1tsp = 5ml, 1 dsp = 10ml, 1 tbsp = 15 ml. The imperial UK tablespoon is ~17.5mL but I don't think I have ever seen that used - although would probably be correct for an old recipe book. A quick Wiki check puts the US tablespoon at…
  • I love banana and cinnamon in a toastie, but not sure if that is too much like desert for what you are after.
  • What the other said - definately don't eat at a calorie deficit as you will need to heal. I don't know how much protein you usually eat (or what kind of surgery you are having), but it may be worth increasing that a bit as well. That said, I had a hip replacement a few years ago and the post op morphine made me really…
  • I quite like spinach so I'll give that a go - good plan. Spaghetti squash is almost impossible to get a hold of here at all. We can get butternut squash and that is about it, I'll try and spiralize them and see what happens. Cucumber and eggplant (aubergine) are also affected by the shortage. Might have a go with the…
  • Lightly roasted in the oven with a sprinking of salt? That I can do, but I can't make myself love it any other way... My pet rats love it though :)
  • Gimsteinn - I'd love to try your Icelandic delicacies but they are a bit tricky to get a hold of in Scotland... (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it)...
  • Maybe you are having trouble digesting raw veggies? How about a cous cous or bulgar wheat salad with cold roasted veg? Tomatoes and peppers are lovely cold after they have been roasted.
  • I've tried making kimchi, that wasn't very successful - far too salty. I need to try and refine my technique, but I'll keep trying. I did make kombucha for a while - I loved the taste but i found it was making my teeth really sensitive so I stopped - I felt quite guilty throwing away the SCOBY. Teeth are much bette now.…
  • Rhubarb is a vegetable (botanically speaking) if that is any help! Although I have heard that it is classed as a fruit in the US. You can use it in a stir fry, but you would probably need a sauce with some sweetness to compensate for its tartness.
  • I take a vitamin D3 supplement along with vitamin K2 which is supposed to help the body use the D3 correctly.
  • The earlier poster was probably right when she directed you to a keto type diet - there are lots of recipes that you can google for meal ideas for that and there are some low carb and keto groups here on MFP http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/1143-keto who I'm sure would help you out  If you like eggs that…
  • A sudden drop in calories can have a really bad effect on your milk supply - you would probably be better trying to drop by about 100 calories or so then maintaining that for a few days and then try another drop etc. If you are exclusively breastfeeding you need around 500 cals a day to allow for that although it will…
  • It has to be the Green and Blacks 85% cocoa solids, I find it a lot smoother than other brands with a similar amount of cocoa solids. I usually have some every day.
  • I'm going to make my first trip to Whole Foods (their newish branch in Giffnock in Glasgow, Scotland). I'm not sure how different their range will be over here compared to what is available in the US though. Hope I won't be disappointed...
  • I'm not very keen on liver and onions myself, liver and bacon on the other hand... I usually buy lambs liver as it is a bit milder in flavour - soaking liver for a couple of hours in milk can make the flavour a bit less strong as well (I don't usually bother with lambs liver though). I usually cut the liver into thin…
  • Normally I try to eat about 100 - 200 cals under my allowance for the day so I can save some up for the weekend. At "that time of the month" however I find I have to eat my full allowance for a couple of days as I an just so hungry. In the past if I didn't eat the extra I'd end up going nuts and eating even more calories…
  • Hard boiled eggs, pork scratchings, beef jerky (check the labels on that one as some have quite a bit of added sugar). Veg (cucumber or celery) with guacamole or another appropriate dip?
  • I also mix a spoonful of instant flavoured coffee with a little boiling water and then add that to the drink - I mix my unflavoured, unsweetened whey with a splash of cold water (I find it mixes better in water), top it up with the unsweetened almond milk and then add the coffee and some ice cubes. I actually enjoy it this…
  • I'd have to second the previous posters suggestion for Spatone - I can't tolerate any iron tablet supplements and after an operation a few years ago I was left anaemic and needing to increase my haemoglobin. My doctor suggested the Spatone as an alternative and I didn't get any of the side effects I get with the tablets…
  • I'd agree with this advice - I read your profile and you seem like a pretty smart guy. I'd be inclined to spend some money on a few books on nutrition and get reading - there is quite a lot of conflicting advice out there and you may not get a dietician with the most up to date information. What sort of diet could you…
  • I quite like to nuke a few berries in the microwave till the juices start to run and then add some greek yoghurt. that means when I mix it the flavour goes all the way through the yoghurt  If you are feeling particularly decadent then you could grate a bit of dark chocolate over the yoghurt - a small bit of…
  • I'm not really convinced by these citations - from your links I could accept that low carb + high protein sounds like it may not be the best long term eating plan but they don't appear to show any risks associated with low carb + high fat. The first one is a review article/opinion piece and is referring to potential…
