Ok kids, a week in and it seems like I armed myself with your words of encouragement and warning, and with a solid game plan of reduced calorie meals and lots of water. I'm down 5 pounds in a week of a 4 month course of steroids...we'll see what happens.

My guys really enjoy anything build-your-own. Build-your-own salad can be great; this sounds very silly, but my guys really buy into presentation. For example, build-your-own-salad night consists of little bowls of many options: grated carrots, diced bell pepper, diced avocado, diced tomato, cubed ham, cubed cheese, etc.…

Creamy Broccoli Slaw 1 head raw broccoli, trimmed and cut into florets 1/4 cup plain yogurt 1 tbsp light cream cheese 1 tbsp honey 1/3 cup trail mix (the variety that has nuts like sunflower seeds and cashews dried cranberries is what I go with)

I say keep your diary honest and current. As delicious as they are, no one wants to write that they had two quarter pounders from Mcdonald's in their diary. And if you end up having to write that you had two quarter pounders, it will only happen once. Stuff your face with lots of veggies. No one likes feeling hungry, an…

 I make it a rule in my house to not "yuck my yum". So, I have to respect those who actually like the stuff...That's a very passive aggressive way of yucking the yum of the people who like Deep Dish Cookie Pie made out of beans. I mean, it might sound interesting to some people, or if some people are like me,…

I'm so glad it's not just me! It's up there sitting on my stove like the giant disc of pureed garbanzo bean chick pea blah that it is... The sad part is that I wasted precious chocolate chips on the thing. The good part is that I now know that I need not try CCK again. I too can afford the calories if I really want them. I…

Thought I might be the only one, the way this thing gets awesome reviews everywhere.

Homemade pizza dough - makes two pizzas, 16 servings (I recommend halving the recipe) 141 calories per serving 1 tbsp salt 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tbsp sugar 1 tbsp yeast 2 cups warm water 4 1/2 cups flour mix yeast, water, salt, oil, and sugar together, let stand until yeast bubbles up (about 10 min). Add in flour, mix until…

I'm not a doctor, so don't sue me. Prediabetes is your mother's body giving her a warning that she needs to make some healthy life changes. Angel food cake is pretty high in sugar, and adding Cool Whip is probably worse than real whipped cream. Hydrogenated oils, which are found in margarine and Cool Whip, are also known…

Get creative in the kitchen, man! You should check out some of the recipes on the thread here. While there are some recipes that are seriously questionable, most of them sound seriously delicious. I don't know how picky you are, or what your tastes are, but it's time to open up your spice cabinet. Curry powders, chili…

Fear-mongering hypochondriacs! I had this too for some time, and while I rarely run or go on walks due to a knee injury and likelihood of a dislocation ( I swim instead), I found that as weight came off, the foot falling asleep thing went away. Maybe a side affect of the affect weight has on your back is numbness from a…

So, this seems to be a very popular thread, but I'm going to throw in my two cents: If you are making a life-style change, which it sounds like you are, and you have a child who will be affected for the better, but none-the-less will likely have an aversion to it, don't try and kid yourself that you will be able to just…

I really don't mean to be a downer, but weight management on Depakote is *really* hard. I was on Depakote for a seizure disorder for over 10 years. Needless to say, I used to be a chubby bunny; 228lbs was my highest ever. I did go through phases though; starting on Depakote as a child, my mother saw me gaining weight…

Make a moist cake with Greek yogurt instead of oil, make a tzatziki dip, or just add shredded cucumber and slather it on a pita, or add honey and nuts, or spinach dip, or or or or.....

Bwahahahahahaaa! I would totally choose to eat one slice of pizza from my favorite joint for 200-something calories than make spinach crust pizza. THAT would not get the job done for me. And of course the kind of cheese matters! Fresh mozza will always be lower calories than that brick of dry white stuff and will be ooey…

...but my question is how much can I stuff in my face for 100 calories?! Ha. I may just be skimming over that part in the recipe in my cheesecake-fogged vision.

Oh my gosh....I've lost an automobile tire????

Well, it kind does take a lot of milk for a small amount of cheese...but even if you pull this trick for a healthy dinner party...it can be awesome. The thicker the milk, the creamier the mozz, and if you live in an area where you can get your hands on real, raw milk that has not been pasteurized, all the better. It…

K everybody...Calm down. I don't know what OP stands for, I did a little research as to clean eating, and in short, it seemed like just eating whole foods...meaning not processed. Cheese at a deli is processed to hell and back, and for that matter, most milk is too (ultra-pasteurized milk doesn't really have anything good…

:/ I see cheese, and sour cream, bacon, and butter.

Miracle pill? No. Give up pizza, chocolate, whipped cream, cakes, hamburgers, and everything tasty in this world? No. The answer is portion control, balance, and healthy lifestyle. Don't eat a whole pizza, just one slice. Don't eat pizza every day, just as a treat. Walk down to your pizza place to pick up a slice and eat…

I avoid cameras, so I don't really have great before or after pictures. I've lost 18 pounds so far, which seems like a lot, but no one really notices, and when they do, they look confused, like something is different and they can't put their finger on it. Then I tell them I lost some weight, and they say, "Oh yea! I can…

I don't really know if I need to contribute to this thread, as it seems to be kind of a hot topic, but Crystal Light is not good for you on a daily basis. While I am no dietician, I read. I read that aspartame has been linked in long term studies with Alzheimer's disease, among many other ailments that seem to all be…

I never really like having less than 200 remaining...I guess that's why a food diary works well for me - I just don't like seeing the numbers like that. With that being said, if I want to eat something that I know will put me close or over, I just make sure to get enough exercise to "buy" me more calories.

I tried something new - not that I hadn't tried before, but rather that I had never tried preparing myself. I made spring rolls (the see-through kind, not the fried :), that I stuffed with shredded carrot, shredded romaine, basil leaves, a squirt of lime, and some shredded chicken that was tossed in soy sauce and ginger.…
