  • Really enjoyed this book. The main tip was that we all have to write our own journal about what works for us. This is so true. Thanks for pointing me to this book.
  • Okay, I don't have the attention span to listen to his rambling manner. LOL. I read his book (Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution) when I was first diagnosed 7 years ago and it scared me to death. I saw no hope for my ability to control my eating habits. So I forged my own way. I have consistently kept my A1C between 4.9-5.9…
  • I recently read that heredity loads the gun, environment pulls the trigger. Not sure about that one. I also read and believe that my weight gain came from undiagnosed diabetes. I ballooned in my 50's and am just getting back to a healthy weight. I guess it doesn't matter to me but maybe for my children.
  • I also recommend finding an endocrinologist. This is not to replace your current doctor, but in addition to him. My endo changed my meds from Actos to metformin and I am so glad she did. The fewer meds you can take the better. An endo can also make sure you get any other doctor visits, nutritionists, and/or other experts…
  • I have had good luck with the one touch, but changing the battery about every 6 months is a good idea. Don't wait for them to go completely dead. You will get more accurate readings with fresh batteries.
  • Congrats on losing 6 lbs! I have found that getting your diabetes organized is different for each individual. We all have strengths and weaknesses in our lives and the way we go about organizing our lives is part of the differences. Some people need to test more frequently, some less. Some need to log more than others.…
  • That's very sweet of you to think of. Remember the rule about carrying on liquids. You might add a cute chick magazine or funny magazine of some sort. If she reads, maybe a small book?
  • All the folks on Rocky Top get their corn from a jar.... Just sayin'
  • I have had type 2 for 7 years. My A1c is currently 5.8 and I take 3 metformin (500mg) a day. I have found that I get the best results if I take them with meals. I would certainly try to find an endocrinologist who specializes in diabetes (mine has diabetes 2). Having given that advice, you still have to find what works…
  • Thanks for all your help! I will check it out!
  • Thanks, I stand corrected on my typo. I have actually been a diabetic for 7 years and my current A1c is 5.8. So I do know something about how to control my BG. I was looking for more info on the glycemic load and glycemic index and just thought that someone might have found a good reference book on the subject.
  • Just got back on the compliance wagon about a month ago after almost a year of denial. I am walking on a treadmill daily. Right now I am walking about 66 minutes for 3.75 mi. My BG is up if I check right after exercise but if I wait until I cool down, I find that it goes down considerably.
