  • We have lowered my basal rate by 15% for all time slots. Increased my carb ratio, and increased my correction factor. Rather than 1:50 it's now 1:100. The biggest problem we are having is due to my gastroparesis. I'm having to wait longer and longer in order to do my bolus after I eat. When I started my pump in August and…
  • Thanks for the advice! Heads Up Hounds also uses WePay (o something like that) to use for fund raising, and I have an amazing network through facebook friends. I also am friends with some people who work in the NASCAR industry who dos a lot with raising money through his races that will probably help as well. I know my mom…
  • That's exactly where all of my complications came from. I didn't care when I was a kid, I was the only kid in town with it and was made fun of horribly and was left out many times by teachers and other adults when it came to things that other kids were doing (parties, field trips, etc) so I rebeled against it all. I regret…
  • T1 for 23yrs but only pumping since Aug (this time around anyway). I am unable to use my stomach, every time I have tried blood goes back into the tubing. I use my side love handles and my back above my pant line. Every site change I change from right to left to right side and then side to back area to give them all time…
  • Very good advice! One thing to add is you will get frustrated with your numbers and the roller coasters until you figure your doses out and what you really need to watch for. Don't get discouraged to the point of falling into bad habits. i did that as a kid because my parents were uneducated too, and it has damaged me. I…
  • I have been T1D for almost 23yrs and am almost 31. I have MANY complications already. I have severe neuropathy in my feet and legs, along with an open ulcer on my left foot. I have all of my limbs still though, but it scares me every day. I have to be careful with my kidneys because I went into renal failure in Feb. 2012.…
  • I use the Cleo 90's for my sets currently. I am actually going in on Wed to look at different sets. I am also very thin and have to use the love handle and back area to set them, but I can't set them on my own because of the placement. My boyfriend has problems with the cleo because tape doesn't like sticking to my skin,…
  • I remember now using those a few times! I thought the reaction was so neat! I just looked up the page and this comment just cracked me up! "The liquid would change color. If it was blue, you were negative. If it was green, you were spilling a small amount of glucose into your urine. If it turned bright orange, you were…
  • Yeah I have a Verio IQ meter that came with my T:Slim that is full color and computer chargable as well, however Iowa Medicaid won't pay for One Touch strips, so that is why I have to use the Insulink meter. It is touch screen and completely customizable but not a color display which is better for my vision (the whole…
  • I'm on the opposite end, severely underweight, and still have issues with sites. I don't have enough fat on my arms and legs to have a site along with severe scar tissue from all the years injecting, so have to use my sides and back. However a friend of mine that is slightly obese is also on the T:Slim pump that I have and…
  • This happened to me several years ago (back when I was using pork insulin so 12 yrs or so ago). I was not good at changing my injection sites, always used my legs. I talked with my Endo about it and found that I was having a reaction with the pork insulin and because the scar tissue from my injections were the cause of the…
  • I was diagnosed in January of 1991 at age 8 and have also had poor control. My A1C the day I went live on my T:Slim was 14+ and I don't even remember when mine was below a 12. I have been trying to get a pump for over 10 years. I have medicaid so don't pay out of pocket for my stuff other than $2 (though having a higher…
  • Before getting my pump in August the lowest A1C that I remember having is 11.4. My A1C the day I went live on my pump was 14+. Mine is now down to 8.6, and right now, am so happy about it, but it's a little too late with the conditions that I have. I know of one diabetic that my Drs asked me to talk to one day when I was…
  • Only short acting insulin is used in the pump. However your long acting insulin is covered using a "basal rate". A basal rate is the amount of insulin you get every hour. What's great with the pump that you can't do with a long acting injection is change the rate at different times of the day. Right now, my basal rate is…
  • My training for the t-slim was through my dr. There is an 800 number that came with your tslim about setting up a training time. (if you still have yet to do so) I really think you will like your tslim and I absolutely love the software on the web for it. makes looking at patterns so much easier!
  • I am using 65% less insulin than before as well. And my A1C was 14+ the day I went live on my pump. I went live on Aug 27. I also had issues with my Lantus and either had to correct or eat more sugar. Just 3 weeks after going live my A1C was 8.6! Which is hard to believe with so much less insulin than before.
  • A Continuous Glucose Monitor would really help, though it isn't as accurate as testing your blood sugar but it gives you great information about what your sugars are doing when, like during the night when you are sleeping. I was able to wear one for a week before going live on my pump, but my insurance won't pay for one…
  • I've been on my T:slim for just over a month and I love it! Previously my A1C was 14+% but in only 3 weeks it dropped to 8.6! I've not seen an A1C below 11% in like 14 yrs (22.5yrs diabetic). No it doesn't make you fat, it uses insulin just as the injections do but with more control. You can't stop your long acting insulin…
  • I have a lot of complications from my poor control when I was younger.22 1/2yrs after diagnosis, I have retinopathy, macular degeneration, gastroperisis, neuropathy, kidney issues, weight issues, they believe my fibromyalgia is also due to my diabetes, and last but certainly the worst, the heart and health conditions my…
  • So been busy busy busy but I wanted to let you all know how things are going! I have been live now since Aug 27. My A1C at that time ws 14+. Got everything figured out but found out that with the quick set for the site I was going to have to have my boyfriend do it for me every time, which he has no problem doing. I asked…
  • I agree, find a new Endo! I've got stories on both sides of the spectrum. Please DO NOT get overwhelmed or scared with what I am about to tell you, I am only telling you to show you that you are doing amazing with your A1C and control. I got pregnant with my oldest sometime in early October of 2003. I realized I was…
  • I do that too when I am going too low. My body clenches and I scream bloody murder, but I don't realize that I'm doing it. I have recently stopped taking the dpekote and have noticed that my mood swings aren't near as severe as they were... Jenn
  • I know how rough it is being sick and trying to get that motivation to get back on track. I'm struggling to gain weight, currently about 30lbs underweight. I will gain about 8 pounds then one of my many medical conditions will act up and I end up losing what I have worked so hard for, then getting that motivation to gain…
  • Get rid of him! If he doesn't like what you look like then why is he with you? Love means loving the person whether they are super skinny or 600 pounds. My current boyfriend and I dated in high school, we were each other's first gf/bf but we broke up because his parents had a problem with our age. I was a freshman and he…
  • I'm 30 lbs underweight and have what I call anorexic tendencies. i can go an entire day without eating and not be hungry still at the end of the day, however it's not something that I am intentionally doing, I just have a problem eating when I am not hungry. I have ways of making myself eat, though illegally. But i don't…
  • Thanks Tera, I'm trying not to think about it too much and I am making a note of all of my numbness and pain experiences so I don't forget anything at my next appointment on the 5th...It is difficult to not think of it though. Jenn
  • Thanks for the information. That's why I came here for some info since I don't know anything about MS. The neuro I see is at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha Ne. That is where my Endo is for my Diabetes and she is the one who referred me to this endo to help with pain management. Some of the stuff he was…
  • That's what Josh tells me to do as well, though most times I just huff and storm off. Maybe I will do that, when I start to get irritable to check my sugars and see where I'm at....Thanks! And I too usually assume that it's either Josh or my boys...lol. Jenn
  • Mine was triggered because of severe strep throat. I was so sick for 2 weeks. My lips were black from scabbing and looked like raw hamburger underneath. I lost 20 lbs as a 7yo and was so thin. I got better but still didn't feel good. That was in Nov. Over Christmas my dad was yelling at me for drinking so much and having…
  • I have been T1D since I was 8, 22 1/2 yrs. I was really rough for me. I was living in a small town, no one in my family was diabetic, and no one we knew in town was either. I was harassed and teased in school because of it so it made me resent it so much. I didn't care so did whatever I wanted and ate whatever I wanted.…
