  • I had 3 complete tears in my rotator and had surgery in June of 15. It is now November and after pretty extensive rehab, I have pretty much recovered. I am a tennis player and the Doc has still not given me a green light to play tennis or golf. He said 6 months from surgery and 1 full year to complete recovery. I still…
  • I am 70 yrs old and have lost about 45 lbs over the last couple of years. I am an avid tennis player and play outdoors all winter long (Pennsylvania). I also play platform tennis 3 or 4 times a week outdoors....so I am pretty active for my age. I still need to lose about 30 more lbs, but it seems to take a long time now…
  • You may want to check out this web site http://www.diabetes-warrior.net/ This guy gives great advice and dispels a lot of the myths around diabetes. He is not a Dr. but I have found his website and articles to be very much on target. Good luck
  • Hi- I have lost about 45 lbs over the last couple of years and it has made a huge difference in my fbs (fasting blood sugar). Now I average below 100 which is normal. I try to restrict my intake of carbs to 60/day, but I don't freak out if I am a little over. Here is what you need to quit: Anything white (bread, potatos,…
  • 267 carbs is way over the max. Go to this web site http://www.diabetes-warrior.net/ This guy seems to have it figured out and has a spin on control that is non traditional and seems to make sense. He is a proponent of low carb and exercise to control diabetes.
  • Sue: I am a type II diabetic and I have lost about 45 lbs. My fbs has averaged below 100 for the last 3 months so I am getting pretty good control. I have found that carbs are not good for me ...so for breakfast, I eat egg beaters with salsa (sometimes cheese) and various cut up vegies. I try to make it different every day…
  • It is a big deal! Congratulations! I remember when I went from obese to overweight. I basically jumped off the scale and high 5'd the air and said YES! Still trying to get to a healthy weight. I will get there and so will you. Keep it up.
  • This is a great article. Thanks for your thoughts.
  • Water, water, water. What H2O does for you is to move stuff through your system. You may think that it is putting weight on you, but over 24 hours you process it all. Drink at least 80 oz/day and more if you can handle it. This, along with exercise/logging calories are the real keys to losing weight.
  • Everybody slows down and has a battle with daily weight loss eventually. Some days you might even gain weight, even though you had a "perfect day". I look at it this way. Daily fluctuations are normal and the work you did on one day may not show up for 2 days later ...but it does. Calorie deficits always result in weight…
  • Congratulations on your weight loss. It is great that you have done it relatively slow. I think it will stay off. As an avid tennis player, I suggest you take it up again. Check out how many calories you burn in an hour and 1/2 of just doubles.
  • I was really looking for something to motivate me to lose as much as possible in March. Count me in.
  • Just found this thread. I am a tennis junkie and have been playing for decades. This winter was the best. Played every weekend with a group of guys outdoors! We only missed 3 weekends because of weather. I live in SE PA. I found that playing outdoors was very helpful in jump starting the USTA leagues. I play on three 4.0…
  • Hi: Don't feak out because of yourself diagnosis. Here are some things to do. Diet and exercise really work. Start walking and build up to 1hr per day. Make a goal to lose at least 10 percent of your body wt. Test often and figure out what foods work. Get an A1C test and work with your doc to get meds. Use mfp to track…
  • I am almost in the same boat as you. I am also 67 yrs old and want to lose about 75 lbs. ( I have lost 28 since 1/1/2012). Congratulations on your success. In my opinion, nothing succeeds like success. Every pound lost gives me motivation to get to my goal. I think a lot of women enjoy the personal touch of communicating…
  • Congratulations on your weight loss. WIth all the money you saved from not eating out, hopefully it covered all the numerous wardrobe enhancements you have had to make along the way. That is a good problem to have. Good luck with the last few lbs.

  • My bother challenged his son-in-law, himself and me into losing 20 lbs by May 31st. If you did not make it, you paid $50. If that was not enough incentive add the following: Type II diabetes, clothes too tight, looking like Orca the Killer Whale, no energy ...you get the picture. Since 1/1/12 Have dropped 17 lbs. Feeling…

  • You did a very interesting study. I think that calories are about as an exact measurement of how you body burns food for energy as is available. My understanding is that to measure the amount of heat a given food gives off is to actually burn it and measure the heat that results. The results are the calorie count (as you…
  • I started 1/2/2012 also. Way to go on your 8lbs. I have also lost 8lbs and I am already beginning to feel great. Stay with it. You have the right attitude to succeed.
  • Congratulations on your weight loss and getting your bs under control, I have type II and I am looking forward to throwing away my meds also. Right now I test at about 117. I was told that once you have problems regulating your bs that you will always have problems unless you adhere to your current life style. In other…
  • I have been playing tennis all my adult life and have made it to USTA league National Championships twice. I also have been a yo yo dieter and my experience is that for every 10 lbs I lost I gained 10% better court coverage and playing ability. Obviously there is an end point, however. Even though you can play tennis at…
  • You have to log your alcohol calories. My question is why do you have to drink alcohol? I have tried to figure this out in my own life and, when it come down to it, I can't justify the extra calories. I would rather eat something than use it on some not nutritious liquid that (I believe) keeps me from getting to my…
  • Good job w/your wt loss and getting your bs under control. I just started about a week ago, and my BS was 108 this morning. I am sorry to say that I had some readings in the 200's last month. I need to get my A1C checked to see what is really going on. Diet and exercise seem to be the only way to get under control. Are you…
  • I had the same question. My wife joined WW just to get the new program, I looked at it and there are a few changes, which I sort of buy into. For example WW gives more points to food that is easily digested such as baked potatoes and alcohol. Their rationale is that because your body does not need to work as hard to…
  • That is exactly how much I want to lose from today. I started 1/2/2012 and have already lost 5, but I still need to lose 70. Count me as a friend.
