It isn't the wine. It's the calories from the wine...and all the other calories you are consuming. Unless you have a significant amount of weight to lose, one pound a week is considered safe and healthy weight loss.

Sacrificing is the reason most diets fail. The best advice I ever got was to not cut any foods out of my diet that I wasn't willing to cut out of my life forever. Instead, find a way to incorporate the foods (and wines) you like into an overall healthy eating plan. It's not necessary to cut any foods out of your diet to…

I don't HAVE to but some foods don't turn out the same without a bit of oil. I love sauted onions and peppers but without a bit of hot oil, they have a mushy texture that I don't like. I don't have to sear my roast in a bit of oil before I cook it in the InstantPot but it sticks without it and doesn't seem to have the same…

I wouldn't know where to start. When we had a house fire, they gave us $1500 just to replace our spice cabinet. That was more than they gave us for a new couch. I use spices for EVERYTHING. What I am making makes a difference in what spices I use. These are a few of my rules... For Polish or Hungarian dishes, smoked…

@MikePTY I am scratching my head trying to figure out what you said that made someone flag your post. My husband does the same thing. He does most of the cleaning, cooking, and shopping - especially December to April when his lobster boat is out of the water. I don't see anything flag-worthy about that.

Congratulations on your weight loss. You have discovered the "magic" of tracking calories and one of the reasons that MFP works. Many of us here discovered through trial and error that exercise allows us to eat what we enjoy and still reach our goals.

I work at a desk all day but I make a point of getting up on my breaks and lunch to take laps around the stock room. When the weather is good, I go take laps around the parking lot a few times.

The proper way to cook is the way you like it. Personally, I like to grill the sausages but cook the onions and peppers in a bit of oil. Boiled peppers and onions sounds sad and disappointing.
-
Fair enough. How do you explain the many, many people here at MFP who have lost weight simply by staying in a calorie deficit without up and down "shock your system" methods?

It's ok to occassionally drop below 1200 but it is not healthy to eat below 1200 on a regular basis. How long have you been eating that amount and what has your weight loss rate been?
-
Yes, there are tons of ways to get healthy fat in, including dressing and chocolate. Some of us have been here a while and had great success eating what we like, in the right proportions. It's pretty enlightening to find that eating healthy doesn't just mean smoothies and seeds.
-
Full fat dressing is a quick one. Dark chocolate, whole eggs, fatty fish (think salmon and tuna), and chia seeds are good sources of fats.

I like those too but they are soooo high in sodium. Every time I have a pouch, I am guaranteed seeing the scale go up because of water retention. They are especially good mixed with 1/4 smashed avocado and spread on a toasted English muffin.

Go see a licensed dietician. You should eat at least a portion of the calories back to ensure you're getting enough nutrition.

Sure, the masses aren't but some of us are. I can easily burn 7-800 calories over my BMR when I go for a longish run. I burned 1100 calories on Sunday alone. How do I calculate my TDEE? Experience - it's 2100. I have been here for six years. I know what numbers contribute to weight loss for me. I know what numbers cause…

I would have had a real problem with my husband while we were dating if he felt that he was single because we weren't married.

My first question is did she ask you for help? If she didn't, is she going to open to your offering unsolicited advice? Everyone has given good information regarding what will work for her but she has to be open making the changes.

You're doing more than you were doing before so that's a win! Just an FYI - DDPY yoga is available online through an app subscription. You don't have to go to a physical class. I do it at home. So does my hubby.

There is a woman in my gym that will leave her station during cardio kickboxing classes to yell at me "come on, you can do more than that - punch that bag like it's your ex" as if she is my personal boot camp instructor. I usually respond with, "I'm good. It's a one hour class; this is the first ten minutes. I want to make…

I haven't lost a ton of weight. I have lost inches though. The best things I bought other than a scale was a good pair of running shoes and a yoga mat. I got professionally fitted at a running store. It made me more comfortable to walk and eventually to run. Running has helped me build my cardio endurance. Yoga helped me…

@IsETHome Congratulations on how far you've come! Have you started any type of exercise? Start somewhere - swimming is where I started because there was no impact to my joints. Adding yoga helped me gain back my mobility and balance. You might look into DDPY yoga. They have a program that starts with bed yoga for people…

Why can't Miss Piggy count to one hundred? Everytime she gets to 69, she has a frog in her throat.

The great thing about forums is that there are so many people here with years of experience doing this. It's easy to forget how we all started out. Beside, I figured someone else had flogged you enough. Twice would have just been cruel. :D

There are entries in the data base for rotisserie chicken, with and without skin. I use that and it is generally pretty accurate. My weight loss/maintenance reflects accurate calorie logging.
-
I'm glad this works for you but for a new person who is trying to understand calorie counting, it's not a good way to get started. Depending on how often they eat salads and what they are putting on the salad, it would be easy to over or underestimate the calories being consumed.

Of course she can. She is a college graduate and well informed. However, my original point, is that not everyone would know to ask for that type of information. There is a lot of misinformation and ignorance when it comes to wellbeing, particularly in impoverished areas of our country. A good portion of the population…
