  • I completely understand and I apologize if my comment came off high handed. It wasn't meant to be. On the subject of measuring correctly...google "Can you spot the difference in calories" and go to the images. There are many excellent examples of how easy it is to underestimate calorie consumption.
  • I think what you are failing to understand is that the plan is meant to be followed as it is written. The build up is designed to let your body adjust to the new stresses you are subjecting it to. Being in good shape is not the same as being an experienced runner. You use a completely different set of muscles boxing than…
  • One was stable, one I had 7 surgeries and gained a bit. The others were slow progress.
  • Ok, cool. You might want to contact the American Diabetes Association and have them update their information.
  • All carbs are not sugar. Carbs can be fiber, starches and sugars. OP, talk to your doctor and get a reference for a dietitian who specializes in diabetes. http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitness/food/what-can-i-eat/understanding-carbohydrates/types-of-carbohydrates.html
  • Where did the exercise calories come from - a Fitbit? Do you have a daily job that is active?
  • We have had many, many posts about how 1200 is not the magical number for most women and never the magical number for men.
  • Everything on my Thanksgiving table. It's one day and it will be full fat, full flavor.
  • What you're asking for is spot reducing. Targeting = spot reducing. You can do core exercises to strengthen the muscles but you won't be able to see the muscles until you lose the fat that is covering up the muscles. Losing the fat is done with a calorie defecit. Edited because my comment disappeared.
  • Woman has blog on tv - woman gets noticed and has a cooking show - woman on MFP comments on said cooking show - forum thread morphs into a commentary on reality shows where people watch other people doing things they no longer or seldom do - conversation turns to different cooking shows and the merits of the judges on said…
  • Yoga is part of my fitness routine. I wish I had time to do it everyday but three days is the most I can fit in. I like pop pilates on YouTube which is a combination of pilates and yoga. @AutumLeaf See Have you tried a restorative yoga class. It is gentler and may help you increase your flexibility.
  • Salmon, asparagus and new red potatoes are fantastic on the grill.
  • I know what keto is. I never said Keto is plant based. I was making a comparison. As in, just because I like carbs doesn’t mean I don’t think others should do keto...just because I love meat doesn’t mean I don’t think others should be vegan. Please read and comprehend before you say things you do not understand.
  • We do a spicy soup variation regularly. Chicken, beef or vegetable broth with leek, carrots, corn, one can rotel tomatoes, taco seasoning, black beans and our protein of choice - usually chicken, hamburger or ground turkey meat. We also do a fish chowder with haddock, leek, potato, corn, broth and heavy cream
  • When I was young, I was so skinny that my nickname was Olive Oil or Twiggy. (If you're too young to know who they are, google it.) I am 5'9" and my highest weight until I became pregnant was 118. Later in life, I weighed 100 pounds more than that. Comments on my weight bothered me more when I was underweight. I'm older,…
  • @wanderingarcher I am not an expert by any means, lol. I am very new to running. I just shared the wisdom others shared with me that helped me improve.
  • If you can sing a song without being winded and there’s no pain, you can keep running. If you can’t, do the walk intervals. Walk/run intervals let you gradually build your cardio and muscular endurance. You might feel good while you’re running but if you overdo it, you’ll feel it later!
  • Others have suggested a PT referral which is the first step. I thought I had tight hips but what I really had was a lack of core strength and flexibility. Losing weight, strengthening my core and doing yoga helped my hip issues and gave me better balance as well.
  • I have a Renpho and it is compatible with MFP.
  • Haha, welcome to outdoor running! So, dress like it's 20 degrees warmer than it is and at -11, you need to be dressed pretty darned warm but in layers so that as you warm up, you can take one off. A cold weather form fitting athleting shirt under the jacket will help tremendously. Throw a pair of mittens over the gloves…
  • I know you got a lot of advice when you were first thinking about running. First step, get professionally fitted for running shoes and buy good socks. Then, pick a 15k running plan. Hal Higdon and the Galloway method are good for new runners. Interval running (run, walk, run, walk) is a good way to get started and both of…
  • You can buy extra seals in different colors for cheap so that your foods don't cross flavor. I have a red seal for meats, the original seal for vegetable dishes and blue seal for sweet foods.…
  • @suziecue25 Your willingness to listen to concerns, address your own preconcieved notions, and apologize for your comments is refreshing.
  • Please read this, especially #6 https://www.romper.com/p/9-ways-youre-accidentally-fat-shaming-people-around-you-how-to-stop-67
  • I've never watched it before but suddenly, I am intrigued. It sounds like my kind of show.
  • Fitness trackers won't work for a person doing martial arts. Jewelry of any kind cannot be warn to prevent injury. OP, in my experience the MA calorie calculations are greatly inflated. Eat back a small portion of those calories but not all and reassess again after a month or so.
  • Mac and cheese is a staple in my home. It doesn't mean I am abusing my children or grandchildren. My kids are all grown now but they are all healthy and very active adults. My daughter and her family own a Brazillian Jiu Jitsu gym. My oldest son is a rock climber. My youngest son is a competitive athlete and power lifter.…
  • I don't think anyone was yucking your yum (sounds like someone has been to a Tastefully Simple party or two) or anyone elses. In fact, I told him good luck. Vegetarianism sounds horrible to me because I love steak. That doesn't mean I don't think anyone else should eat a plant based diet. A low carb high fat diet would be…
  • People have a hard time losing weight because they don't accurately calorie count. CICO takes work and people want a quick fix so they don't do it or don't do it well. People plateau for a number of reasons. Maybe they don't reassess their calorie needs as they lose weight. Perhaps they get used to what they eat and think…
