Thanks for your thoughts, everyone.

My weight loss stalled on the calorie restriction plan I was on and I had a lot of hunger. So I increased my calories by 200 - 300 or so per day and was more satiated. The weight started slowly dropping again over the next few days.

Some good advice here about objective sources of info. Thank you.

Calorie goal is 2450. My carb goal is 30-40 gms per meal. I eat protein, fat and fiber with most meals.

My calorie goal is 2450. My strategy is to ingest the number of calories daily that is estimated for me to "break even" and not gain nor lose if I don't exercise. And, then use the exercise to create the calorie deficit on top of that. After a few more days of tracking calories, hunger and exercise levels, I should have a…

The photo might actually agree with some of the authors that say we should ease up on endurance and increase intervals? Those guys look fit and strong. But, it also looks like a criterium race or criterium training - sprint/recover type training? (In a questioning tone, not trying to be adversarial in this comment)

Thanks - great thread. I'm on page 20 and will come back and read the rest later. A few of your wisdoms that stood out to me so far.: -Track calories on MFP all as one meal. (I like this better, plus it stores all my individual foods in one place for adding to future diaries.) -Use a calorie estimate and just pick a…

I'm trying to figure out a way to clarify my question. Let me do it numerically: Let's say you are maintaining weight at 2000 calories a day - nothing gained, nothing lost. Then one day you splurge and eat 1750 extra calories. 3750 calories total for that day. According to what I read, a pound is equal to about 3500…

Congratulations and all the best!

Interesting read. I look at this issue like this: Many of us exercise in order to try and stay fit and healthy for life. Hopefully a long and active life, (but none of us are guaranteed anything, but we can increase our odds). Strength is an important part of that equation. But, like most things, overall moderation may be…

Part of the reason I ask is looking back and reconstructing a typical day when I was a younger man. Then applying TDEE calculations etc. I ate a significantly higher amount of calories, yet had much less bodyfat. I'm trying to figure out the formula calculations, based on the logic we know today. Based on TDEE calculations…

That sounds like good advice. Was just trying to see if I was in the ballpark for my age and size.

Ok, I'll attempt my math using MFP. For reference: I'm 54 years old, 5'10", 197 pounds. Cycle, moderate pace 3.5 hours a week 1 day of good pace strength training at the gym each week for 45 mins. Sedentary job. Goal - lose 1 lb per week. MFP says before adding exercise, I should eat 1660 calories each day to lose a pound…

Thanks - all those posts are helpful. But, I'd still like for someone to take my numbers and take a stab at my personal math. I'm still a little confused and want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. Thanks!

I'm IR and sometimes track my blood sugar after meals to see what effects that different foods have. By, the way, I strongly suggest doing that. (One touch ultra is what I use) One interesting thing I found. All most all "100% Whole Wheat" and "Whole Grain" breads are full of fast acting carbs that spike my blood sugar.…

I'm waiting for Thanksgiving to eat that many! :)

OP - thanks for the recommendation to visit. Very informative stuff here! All the best!

All these posts here are VERY helpful to me. Relatively new here, but committed. I think this sums up my question. PS - On the MFP daily goal calculation which calculates a number to hit. Is this using an estimated TDEE before it subtracts calories for your goal deficit?

I mostly use my web browser (Safari), and sometimes the phone app, especially if scanning a barcode. When I use the search feature in the web browser it doesn't give me my recent entries unless maybe I spell is exactly the same. Let me give you and example: Today I had sauted mushrooms as part of lunch. I first typed in…

I've been using MFP for 49 days. Out of those 49 days, I have complete entries for 38 of those days and incomplete for 11 of those days. My question is not one about the importance of logging all or most of the time. I understand that. My question is about "best practice" for times where you don't remember the details.…

Interesting. It would seem that if the body is working harder in heat, as reflected by the HR going up, then one would also burn more calories?
-
I agree with the folks recommending HR monitors. Based on threads on this MFP Community forum, I got out my old heart rate monitor and started learning how to use it again. It's been awesome to assess different forms of exercise and their calories burned. It makes it much easier and based on what everyone says, more…

Bump. Good discussion all. Thanks for the thoughts. I have a heart rate monitor that I've had for years, but haven't been using it. I'm dusting it off now and reading how to use it's more complex features - ie average heart rate during an exercise session. If I recall there is a pretty high correlation between heart rate…

Bump to see if I can get some more info. Thanks!

I think the OP, **** Cobb is a real person and sounds like he is an inspirational one at that. Found this about a successful Pick-up Litter volunteer organization he runs: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Adopt-YOUR-Block-Be-a-Litter-Gitter-Huntington-WV/150391718348761 Question: Regarding whether or not diet, exercise and…

Thanks all. please keep the info coming. Very interesting and helpful.

Thanks for the replies so far. I hope there will be more. Law 714 - thanks for the video. I found the entire first snd second segment on there. Have them ready to watch tonight. I had to pick my local PBS station before it would let me download. FYI anyone wanting to watch it.

I occasionally test my blood sugar now. Plan to do more. Those of you who have pre-diabetes or suspect insulin resistance, where do you try to keep your blood sugar numbers post meal? I shot for 120 or below when I was measuring more often.
