I think a 6 pound gain is likely H20 but by the same token, 10 pounds in a month is a helluva lot to lose! I lose about 2/month.. Good luck, tho! Debbie

Guyonthego, I'm friends with a couple of compadres, but they haven't really joined the thread! Debbie

Starting a work, health, program where you spin a wheel and do any one of about 30 exercises designed to be done in the office, lol. Today we are tracking grains. I think it's kind of a cool addition to what I regularly do. Best, Debbie

Yes, in my readings I came across the opposite--- that yo yo dieting is actually WORSE for your health possibly, than being moderately obese. Debbie

Hey, congrats! What you say is true about some of the research, but in the research where the took slim people and randomly put them into high/low calories groups, we are talking experimental design (it's been awhile, but I taught stats when I was in grad school). These studies don't depress me, really. They just get me…

Yes this is what the research suggests. I didn't find much re: "What WORKS to lose weight" but most agreed that healthy eating and exercise was good for you whether you dropped pounds or not. Best, Debbie

RE: Questions and goals... First, I LOVE spaghetti squash. Thanks for the reminder! Second, the food I won't give up is a beer with dinner. I have seen some "purists" give up alcohol, but I still drink a bud-light-lime, nightly (or about 6 oz of wine, depending on what I feel like). Third, I've met my goals by exercising…

Alright, my goal is simply 30 min of exercise, 6 days a week! :) Debbie

No offense to the OP but I found this thread to be hysterical. I didn't know what Alli was and thought people must be exaggerating so I looked it up on the NIH website and it said this about side effects: oily spotting on underwear or on clothing gas with oily spotting urgent need to have a bowel movement loose stools oily…

Fast food maybe. But I'm going to turn that question around: What food have you eaten more of that pleasantly surprised you? :) When I'm eating right, I really like the taste of raw carrots and spinach. I realize the flavor is subtle, but I really love them :) Best, Debbie

I didn't use C25K but on my own (I didn't even know C25K existed) started walking and walking and walking. I just gradually built up over time without pushing myself too much (pushing myself, in the past, has led to quitting). I now can comfortably run 3K, 3X a week. Debbie

Ohh Cindy Whitmarsh? People don't talk about her much, but I like her. DQ

There aren't many. I like the (I'm spacing her name) 10 minute workouts that are available to stream-- they are nice to do before something more intense. I did a cardio salsa class that was stream-able, as well, that I liked. Best, Debbie

I'm doing it with family in Austin, in the Fall. I'm excited too! Good luck! Debbie

You can do a helluva lot without equipment. I have a couple of dumbells, a pad, and that's it. I have purchased some DVDs and they are helpful. Best, Debbie

Alright, as far as challenges go, I get up VERY early in my morning so I would love to see them posted before :) That's just a wish, however. At any rate, I'm going to do the 20 squats, 20 pushups and 20 situps thing and then hopefully go running (or at least walk/running) as I'm still jet lagged. Have a nice one!

Wow! Way to take charge of your life! Best, Debbie

1. I love the challenges but I probably won't get to them until I get home. I'm visiting Denmark right now and I'm exercising quite a bit but have no routine about it. 2. Please add me, if you already haven't. These threads tend to get taken down quickly. In the event that happens, we can still stay connected. 3. My gf and…

Debbie, 45, currently living in a little town within Houston, TX. Iøve overeaten but a little, all of my life, so I am now overweight and don't want to have a double knee replacement, like my mom did. I have spent the last two years building up endurance and, on my own, went from walking to running. I do that, and I…

I love mine-- it also measures body fat and calculates your BMI. That's a good idea to weigh my luggage on it! http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS310&q=omron+scale&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=15592845298556429547&sa=X&ei=72shTtOjAoaztwe7vfyTAw&ved=0CEMQ8wIwAg Best, Debbie

I don't get the "excuse" part. How is calling something an addiction an "excuse". People can manage addictions, with a lot of hard work. Debbie

I've only lost 10+ and I'm losing SLOWLY but I eat in a way that I can maintain. I eat a regular dinner with my son, but use portion control, and I have oatmeal for breakfast nearly every day. I don't eat "bad" stuff, for the most part, but allow myself chips, salsa and margaritas on Fridays :) Again, I'm losing SLOWLY. I…

I'm a single mom who plans her dinners every day so it's easy to log that in in the mornings. I also eat the same thing, most weekdays so I log that. After that, I know how many cals I have left for lunch and snacks. I think it really helps. This website it about mindfulness. Logging our food/exercise keeps us conscious of…

I always wonder, for folks who are hyper into taking kids away (as opposed to taking steps to keep families together) if they have adopted or would be willing to adopt? There aren't enough foster/adoptive parents, as it is. Debbie

A supposedly healthy Protein bar has about the same amount of calories as a snickers, with a little extra added protein ! :) Great thread. Debbie

Does your family eat healthy or do things need to be revamped entirely for everyone? I cook about the same for my kids and for me. Best, Debbie

I don't know about the program, but I walked for two years before I jogged. Now I'm jogging 2 miles +, three times a week! Debbie

I would hate to start with water aerobics in "poo". Sorry, couldn't resist :)

When I was heavier, I did what you did. I walked, walked and walked. I think it's a great start! Best, Debbie
