I absolutely believe that weight loss or gain affects hormones in females - if exercise is causing weight loss, then yes, exercise could also be indirectly causing changes in hormones. I have also heard of women who experience changes in their periods when they exercise, which tells me there might be a hormone link there,…

I want something that you can transport on an ipod - does spotify allow you to take the songs with you on an ipod that is not connected to the internet? I'll check it out.
-
If I would have room in the topic, I would have added "for your ipod to exercise to"

In other classes I've attended (step aerobics) the instructor would always do the same routine for a 3-5 classes before switching it up - that way, you had a chance to get the hang of it and really get a good workout in a few times once you caught on. Is Zumba done the same way? What did you all experience with your…

AnnieUS - have you confirmed your 700 cal burn with a heart rate monitor? Just curious. I will be wearing mine to class, thats for sure - I am really looking forward to some good calorie burns! :)

Bumping: I guess what I am wondering, is what other zumba fans (or even non fans) experienced their first time - what surprised you? Was it as fun as you thought it would be? Did you feel "worked out" enough, or did you find yourself having to hop on the treadmill later to get more of a sweat on? Were there any clothing…

My bones must be made out of lead... I am 5' 9" and my goal weight is 178. I felt amazing at 199 last year at my lowest weight since high school. I am currently fighing a relapse and getting back into it (weigh 218 now). Why are y'alls goals so little??? I just don't understand how someone my height could have a healthy…

I have also been reflecting on my reasons for feeling "down" about this article. I think it is because I was really looking forward to NOT having to exercise so much some day - don't get me wrong - I will never stop exercising completely because I love it too much. But I put in 6 days a week to help with the calorie…

Huh - I don't think I like this article very much! The thoughts of having to eat at a calories deficit AND workout 6 days a week for the rest of my life is very depressing. :/ I was hoping that by becoming somewhat of an athlete, I could eventually have a maintenance calorie requirement of 2000+/day or so.

I lost 50 lbs last year, and since the holidays hit, I have gained 15+ back. (I also had a family tragedy right before Thanksgiving - add that to the holidays and its not good for the diet) You are not alone, and I will be eagerly watching this thread for motivation and ideas on how to get back at it. I really think the…

Are there any good "off" brands of spanks that I could get before the weekend? I have penneys, sears, walmart, kmart near me?
-
Wow - OP here. Just wanted to say thank you for all the useful pics, links, information and experience! I will continue my journey with P90X and my couch 2 5k program. Will I have to work out this much to maintain my results? I hope someday to reduce my workouts to 3-4 times per week. Right now, its more like 6 days per…

Ok - its starting to make sense. I was just having a hard time putting the logic together - if bulking is not possible while in a calore defecit, then what ELSE is not possible while in calorie defecit (in terms of the reasons for weight training) I'd love to hear from people who have done it both ways - lost weight with…

Yes, but how is the fat loss different or better when you're lifting weights than it would be if you just did cardio and reduced calories?
-
When I was very obese, I could not even LOOK at a carb without gaining 10 lbs - seriously - it was a viscious, snowballing cycle - I'd eat bread, gain more weight, crave more bread, gain more weight, etc etc etc! I had to limit my carbs when I was in that pre-diabetic state in order just to lose some of that stubborn…

Thanks for all the encouragement, guys! I am extremely sore this morning - I think I'll keep at it for one month and see how I feel then. If I am still feeling discouraged, I might switch to Chalean extreme - I do have that progam, too.

ROFLMAO!

Everyone is different - I had some people notice and comment at 15 l bs, and I"ve had some people wait until I hit 50 before saying anything.

OP here. I totally needed to hear all of this - some of it was "tough love" but those were the posts that spoke to me the most. I definitely need to get rid of the alcohol. I also need to switch up my working out - maybe increase resistance training... I seem to be in an endless cycle of eating too much, then trying to…

Yes - this is correct - this isn't a true plateau... I certainly have not been doing what I should be doing and I have lost focus. I should be grateful that I've stayed the same and not gained any back, actually!! How do you get focus back once you lose it so badly???

Does anyone have any thoughts on the cold temps of winter and how it may affect the treadmill? I live in the NE and don't want to break my treadmill running on a 10 degree day.

Lots of good insight here - keep it coming!

Well I hope my post will help someone head off the damage at the pass... I've been slacking away thinking everything is fine because I'm maintaining my weigh - so what, right? I just noticed this past week the difference in how my pants fit - that they seem to be feeling tighter. Moral of the story: Maintaining your weight…

Let me try to re-word my question: Can your body get bigger but stay the same WEIGHT due to your composition and fat/muscle ratio reverting back if you exercise less often than you had been?

Some people swear that 5-6 meals will be best for metabolism - for me, I have to keep it simple and do 3 meals/no snacks. When I snack, I overdo it and the calories add up too fast.

It does fold up and then stands vertically when folded. Our room is about 12 by 18. A screen is an idea...

I should do the same thing. A couple weeks ago I hit 199 which put me in onederland for the first time in 7 years, as well as the "50 pounds lost" mark. Well, that only lasted one day and I've been bouncing about in the 201-205 range every since - it has devastated me to lose those two milestones. And this happens a lot -…

I think seeing a gain tomorrow would hurt too much and could possibly send me into a shame spiral and cause another binge. I know 500 over won't cause TRUE gain, but it could cause water - I had a lot of salt - I just do not feel strong enough to face it tomorrow.
-
Thanks for all these great viewpoints - It is now 10:24 and I decided to NOT workout and just try to recoop the calories tomorrow with a hard workout and a slight reduction in calories for tomorrow. AND I'M ALSO NOT WEIGHING MYSELF!

Climingmountain - how did you hurt your foot? What was the injury?? Yes, that is a terrible thing - I haven't seen a doc for either injury. My glute I hurt about 6 weeks ago - still hurts. My foot I hurt this weekend - just stubbed a toe, but the pain is radiating into the ball of my foot. :/ Maybe its time I called a…
