  • CrazySteve - I also have lost 29 lbs and am at the 2-3 month mark and have the exact feelings that you have. Reality is setting in that 1) I really am able to lose weight when I try and take the proper action and 2) I still feel like a f'ed up person in spite of this success. What does it all mean, I do not know - where…
  • I do want to understand how alcohol effects your body - beyond just calories, and beyond just "it causes you to eat more" because I am VERY good at planning for the night, making sure I have the calories covered with a good workout or smaller menu during the day - and I don't splurge on treats after I drink - but something…
  • Yeah, that is exactly what happened - I had a big loss the day after I drank, then every single day this week I have been stuck and now went up 2 lbs. I do know with alcohol that its more than calories. I really drank a lot (ashamed to say how much - many shots, many beers) so it is probably taking my body this long to…
  • To those of you going through the same thing as me, I wanted to also share that I drank quite a big of alcohol over the weekend (first time in over a month) and I don't know if that could be affecting your scales. I have been thinking all morning - what did I do wrong this week?? Well, I think that may have been it. :/ I…
  • You know, I wonder how many good friendships I've lost out on through the years because I've been afraid to put myself out there just to get rejected - because of course (I would think to myself), no one would want to be friends with a slob like me. :/ I'm not saying no one would have wanted to be friend with me - I am…
  • Wow... thanks for keeping up with the thread today. I want my actions to relect who I am - I am not sure how to check that? I do find myself doubting conversations I have, actions I take, things I say... very very often. Goodnight. :)
  • Ha ha! I love this... so how do you know when you have a little too much of that great stuff called "confidence"?
  • Thank you so much for explaining - I have been checking all day to see if you expanded yet. Lots and lots to think about. Were you also overweight once? I am intrigued.
  • Does anyone else find themselves putting off things they want to do until they lose "even more" weight? I have friends I'd like to visit - places I'd like to go - social situations I'd like to be part of - but I feel like I am putting it off until I lose a little more and move further away from my fat version of myself.…
  • Whomever suggested Eddie Bauer - what would you suggest for a person who is 5'9" and about to be wearing a size 12? For shirts? Would I be a large?
  • Yah... you know, we were out with friends last weekend and someone that should NOT have been "checking me out" was DEFINITELY checking me out.... and I was checking right back, just for the fun of the game. I am not used to that kind of attention at all.
  • All of these replies are so fascinating... I feel like I am entering into a very unknown phase of this weight loss journey - an interpersonal side of it that I've never had the chance to delve into (because by now, every single time I've lost weight, I'd start gaining it back by now) I'd always start some "diet" and lose…
  • I want to hear more about this ^^^^^^^ Care to elaborate?
  • OP here - wow, this exchange really hit a nerve. I think for sure that weight loss will cause us to feel more confident and this added "confidence" can sometimes mutate into something that isn't healthy. I am so glad I read this because it really made me think. Maybe I am perceiving jealousy that doesn't exist - I have to…
  • Think about all the money people spend on prescriptions and doctor visits fighing illnesses that are related to being overweight. Do your thing, and make exercising fun and as comfortable as possible.
  • Thanks everyone - I think I am going to just skip working out today. They really are so sore.... tomorrow I'm on it!
  • This thread is pefect timing for me - I ran 3 miles yesterday for the first time in many many years, and this morning I am HURTING. I definitely heel strike - after reading this thread, I now know what I need to work on to make that better.
  • So girls - now that I've lost around 30 lbs, its time for new clothes for me. Where do you guys find shirts and pants? I have trouble with tee shirts - even the sleeves are too short! Any help on that? And it seems like back when I was a size 18 or 20 it was even WORSE because the clothes were made for SHORT fat women -…
  • Yes - tall girls can have more calories! That is a definite plus!
  • I like this thread - I think we tall gals have that thing in common where we "thought" we were cows even back in high school when we were thin. Its the height that made us feel overwhelmingly large. I wish I knew then what I know now - I'd go back to high school and hold my head high! I have felt "fat" since I reached 5'8"…
  • I think a lot of this depends your own genetic makeup. Personally, I have diabetes in my family history - if I even look at a doughnut or a piece of pizza, I gain 5 lbs. :/ So, some people are more sensitive to carbs and do not tolerate them as well as "normal" people. Also - the bad carbs (refined flours and overprocessed…
  • Aww.. I'm sorry you're feeling bad. You know, I have lost 29 lbs, and it was fun in the beginning, but I'm starting to feel burned out. And, when I look in the mirror, I am starting to see a fat girl again. Its wierd - even though mathematically, I MUST be smaller, I am starting to look bigger every day to my own eyes. So,…
  • To the OP: I have had daily mini-slips for 2 weeks straight - seems like every day there has been a bit of a "chocolate bunny" moment. I've been really beating myself up over it - thinking, well - I guess I can't do this afterall, because I am slowly falling back into my old ways, day by day. Reading your post made me feel…
  • Wow - thanks for all the responses! I am so siked to incorporate more stair-climbing into my workout routine! How awesome!
  • Nope - that is completly wrong. I am absolutely open to anything that will improve my health and fitness, including changing my old ways of thinking. Many of the well-worded posts here have definitely changed my mind. And not to start friction, but in your OP, you DID say 'reduce your tummy bulge" not "help with the…
  • Ahh! Now this post spoke to me. No reason why someone should walk around with slack-jawed stomach muscles!
  • This statement makes it sound like sit ups just melt the fat right off your tummy, but is it not true that one cannot spot reduce? I'm not saying there may not be other benefits to sit ups, as others have mentioned. But, to say that sit ups reduce tummy bulge is false, no?
  • Hmmm... Ok - some of these comments re: ab work are indeed making me think twice. I will reconsider my stance on it. It doesn't help that I HATE ab work. It doesn't even feel good (like a bicep curl to me, feels good) I think its because I've had 3 c-sections - the muscles just don't feel good down there at all.
  • I've never heard that before, that your stomach goes last. IF thats true, then that does make me feel a little better, at least its not something I'm doing wrong.
