  • LOL, that's like saying to your kid you'll buy them any new car they want, but it has to be a GM car....but don't worry there's tons of really great options in GM, you won't be missing out on anything. I would reverse your statement...'If you convince yourself you're NOT restrictred, then you're not going to feel…
  • @jassnip. You are correct. The longer you eat fewer calories than your body requires, your body will begin to adapt to the low levels which can be described as depressed metabolism. I have struggled with this...The body is a very resilient thing and it will fight you(otherwise weight loss would be easy). Conventional…
  • That second link seems to focus on the psychological links between sweetners and weight rather than the chemical response of raising blood glucose levels...but I'm not interested in spending too much time refuting this as it definitely doesn't have a negative effect on my life to drink aspartame, quite the opposite. I…
  • I'd like to see some sources to back up a claim like that. As there is no sugar(carb) content in diet pop it seems impossible. I probably drink 2 liters of diet pepsi a day and I have no issues with cravings or weight loss(I don't measure ketone levels) so I highly doubt that it has any impact for low carb eaters other…
  • I have introduced carb cycling after 6-8 weeks before usually when I start to stall weight loss wise and have enjoyed my results. Usually it will coincide with some weekend event and i'm always right back on the next morning. For me though I don't have any medically influencing reasons to eat low carb...I just use it to…

  • I feel for you...this would destroy me. I love me some choc chip cookie dough everyday :)
  • As i'm a protein power grad it make sense why I've come to be comfortable with net carbs then :) I just find that given the fact that I eat a variety of foods that i need to watch my consumption due to carb content but it varies daily I wouldn't be able to count total and have a good sense of where I was at...so net carbs…
  • It can be but it isn't a bad idea for everyone :) I use net. My total is always over 60...sometimes as high as 100 but my goal is net carbs <60grams per day. I eat a lot of nuts and will have quest bars and adkins bars and other things with differing levels of carbs so if i counted only total carbs i'd really have no idea…
  • While Quest are my fav too, the other bar I can handle is the Adkins Peanut Butter Chocolate. About 6 grams less protein...not as good as quest but far better than cardboard :)

  • Congrats on the DL...very nice.
  • If you're looking for a low carb bar that is high on taste(and fiber) I would suggest Quest Bars. You can get them at any nutritional food store and some grocery stores now sell them(at least in Canada)...as well as Walmart(in the US). Lots of variety in flavour and don't use sugar alcohols to get low carb and sweet taste.…
  • I found LC 17 years ago or so after a year in the gym eating low fat high carb and having almost no success. Admittedly I was doing more wrong but the structure of LC (and the fact I could eat all the bacon and sausages I wanted) made me take the plunge. I read Protein Power by the Drs Eades' and I was hooked. Lost 32lbs…
  • That sucks, I rely on nuts...love them actually. I don't suppose you'd try meatballs but i find angus meatballs very convenient and you can nuke them with a big of caloriewise bbq sauce and it literally makes the whole office jealous of my lunch :) They're nice and high in fat.
  • I miss me some Elder Scrolls(and other single player RPG) :( My pc died an epic death and I don't have the money I can justify to rebuild a gaming PC. Sadly I'm in withdrawl :(
  • ^^This. In my opinion this is the reason a lot of people struggle with CICO...myself included. Any prolonged calorie reduction will have a negative impact metabolism and this makes it harder to keep the weight off. Simply put if you maintained at 2000 cals/per day and then dieted for 6 months at 1400 you now probably…
  • Good luck! Very interested in your progress. I'll be resuming a bulking protocol in November...interested in how the keto bulk goes!
  • If I'm within the first couple weeks I would not typically cheat unless it's for a family/friends' bday a small piece of cake or something. After about 6 weeks I do introduce 'refeeds' when I start to stall or as it coincides with some family event where there's yummy food put out :)
  • I use them....but then for me keto is not a WOE. I need the variety and as i dont' like a lot of low carb foods (veggies...anything from the sea) I get bored quickly so the cheat meals give me that variety. I am fortunate to be able to control it and get right back on the wagon for the next meal so it's no additional risk.…
  • Personally I follow the Protein Power plan method(or at least the one from the late 90's version of the Drs. Eades book I have) where I add 10grams of carbs per week until I get where I need to go. Getting towards a bulk if that's around 50 kcals per week you're probably good. It's not fast, but you avoid the symptoms…
  • I've used carb re-feeds to break through a mini plateau before. I limit them to about 3-4 hours and eat whatever I want..with a few drinks in there(it's usually Friday or Saturday night) and it worked for me as long as I got right back on the horse the next morning. By Wednesday of that following week i'd be down on the…
  • Quest bars! So many yummy flavours...
  • Nice.

  • Interesting discussion. I typically get about 40-55 grams of fiber while on keto...far higher than I do when I eat a higher carb diet...mostly due to the amount of peanuts, quest bars and adkins products I eat...whether or not it's a factor I don't have any bowel concerns except in the first few days...on the loose side…
  • For the the achievement lies in the workout itself, the feeling I have completing it...the blood pumping and all those macho emotions that make me think of great athletes in history lol Seriously very seldom are my workouts utilitarian in nature...they are always selfish quests to feel good and better myself and it's…
  • People suck...that's what it comes down to. They suck when they are driving, they suck when they stop in front of you in the mall suddenly, they suck when they text on their phone while you're talking to them and they suck when they make judgemental comments that come from their own insecurities. It's up to us to not give…
