  • If your BMR differs significantly than the equation (done via indirect calorimetry), I think it makes sense to adjust it. I spend way too much time already to "guess" why I can't lose weight.
  • Thanks for all the posts. For many years I maintained a normal weight because I had an extremely physical job and ate practically nothing (no breakfast, little lunch). My last personal trainer and my orthopedic told me I have little muscle... I would lose muscle even when working out while dieting (caliper testing from…
  • So I've been tracking for one month this year, and last year for over 12 months (I lost 3 lbs in 12 months). I know how to weigh food, I've studied chemistry and math in college. Why would I underestimate if I go through the trouble to do this? When I stopped logging last year, I immediately gained 10 lbs in 6 months...…
  • The first thing people think is that you are eating too much. How about figuring out what your calorie needs really are? It's obviously not the same for everyone, nor is any magic number the exact same for everyone. If only there was a truly accurate way to measure expenditure. I can't even find a place to get VO2 analysis…
  • Why would you gain 3 pounds by changing the type of foods that you eat as long as you are under your expenditure? It can be water, but it should drop off as easily as it came on and it's been 3 days. So I'm at 3 weeks with zero change. This is totally unsustainable. People suggest that carbs convert directly into fat with…
  • I am about your age and I totally agree with you.
  • You most certainly can gain weight on 1600 calories a day. If you overeat (or remain sedentary) by any amount you will gain. By just eating 35 extra calories a day on average, you can gain 15 lbs in 5 years or 30 in 10!
  • This info is good to know. It's hard to walk 9 holes when you're recovering from a broken ankle.
  • So when I add exercise, do I have to "eat back" the calories?
  • I've been to a nutritionist and they said 1300 was OK. I would love to lose 2 lbs a week, and you'd think it would be doable, right? My height is 5'5" and I'm over 168. I want to lose at least 10 for the short term, 30 long term. I've been trying for over a year, and was losing very slowly last summer until the water…
  • Has anyone heard of the rotation diet? It was developed at a university clinic, and the developer claims you will not hurt yourself by limiting the days you have a low intake to 3. I have been in a deficit for a month and lost 2 but gained it back. I cannot do this indefinitely, nor do I want to.
  • I think it depends on the individual. Kudos to those who have gotten their flat bellies back, but I always had a perfectly flat tummy before my c-section, and now I have a knotty scar with the overhang. Yikes. But absolutely no stretchmarks. My sister has a stick thin figure and multitudes of stretchmarks. Go figure. I do…
