Jawbone UP. Love that it tracks sleep as well as activity and I can wear it on my wrist all the time. No need to switch it to a wrist band like the FitBit. However I look at it as more of a novelty. I researched all the other options, but the UP seemed best for me. While the BodyMedia one is probably the best…

What a beautiful place to ride. In Connecticut we have the "Rails to Trails" routes which are old rail beds converted to biking/pedestrian paths and the Farmington Canal Line trail which runs alongside the old canal network. I love riding those trails because they are picturesque and traffic free. Crowded sometimes…

This. I suggest buying a scale and weighing your food when the opportunity presents itself to get a good handle on portion size to better track your calories. I also suggest eating the calories that MFP allocates you BEFORE exercise. This keeps you in a healthy weight loss regime. Now I am in the camp of not eating back…

Finished October with 276.4 miles. Felt great to be exercising. I think I'll set my goal for October (pray for a late winter) at 300 miles. Lets see if this fat old man can get a little skinnier this month :) Had a bad bout of numbness after my first 3+ hour ride last month that kept me off the bike for a week so I'm…

So I finished the month out well above my initial goal of 150 miles and even above my updated goal of 250 miles. :) Didn;t make the 24 hours in the saddle I was hoping for as part of the "24 hour challange" on here as well, but I am more than pleased. This is more than I have ever ridden a bike since I hit puberty, and…

So I haven't updated for a week. Well here goes.... This was tough. You hear "all you need to do is exercise for 24 hours over the month" and think "well hell, I can do that!" Well I didn't make it. I exercised a lot (strictly bike riding) but I came up a few hours short. What this really means is that this is truly a…

Great ride today at the Northampton Bike Fest. Longest ride to date for me at 40+ miles! Free beer and BBQ after certainly hit the spot. Sad day for fellow cyclists in the Northeast. Be careful out there! http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/09/21/2-die-after-car-slams-into-bicyclists-during-annual-northeast-coast-ride/…

Simple. Beer. Budweiser and Heineken. Six pack + a day. That's an easy 1000 C extra/day before the pizzas, pulled pork, etc. Not that you asked, but how am I losing it? Gave up beer? Hell no! Cut back and switched to Beck Premier Light @ 64C vs 150C. OK, it tastes more like water than beer, but beggars can't be choosers.…

Felt great on the bike today. 31 miles and a PR for distance and time in the saddle \o/ I can see my fitness level increasing for sure. Avg HR keeps going down while the avg speed keeps going up. Personal reasons (read a lady coming over) got in the way of yesterdays ride, but I was back in the saddle today. Sent my comfy bike (Bianchi Volpe) to the shop on Thursday so I had to break out the Mondonico for this week. Not as comfortable, but it's like switching a VW beetle for a Porsche 911. Easily 4 lbs lighter and…

I've been on MFP now for a month, trying to shed some much needed pounds (at least 80) and get my fitness level up. 2 years ago -- in another bout of failed good intentions -- I bought a new Bianchi Volpe set up as a cyclocross bike. Well As I started this journey in the beginning of August, I dusted it off, put air in the…
