  • Banana smoothies! It's what I stick with for breakfasts. Tons of carbs. Keeps me awake for early morning classes.
  • Almonds were a bit of a shock for me too. I don't usually eat them on their own, but they really up the calories in a salad. Kraft Dinner really got me. The serving size on the back only accounts for a quarter of the box. Last year as a student, it was one of my staple foods and I could easily eat a whole one. I'm still…
  • Oooo I just had a couple days of chocolate binging. It's not a "classy" chocolate, but I burned through two bags of mini Reese's Pieces. Halted my progress a little bit, but I think I needed to get it out of my system. I'm back on track now.
  • For myself, I found that I got bloated from too much sodium. I used to LOVE salt: processed meats, Chinese food, frozen entrees, etc.. I loved it all. But I also held on to a lot of water weight and constantly felt bloated. Now I try to stick to about half of what MFP recommends for sodium and I drink a TON of water (it…
  • This! I've never gone to a yoga class, let alone a naked one, but nudity is WAY too stigmatized and over sexualized.
  • Moreso than the actual weight loss, I love that I can run now. In high school I could run for about 30 seconds and needed 5 minutes to get my breath back. Now I'm able to alternate running for 3 minutes and walking for 2. That and seeing the results in my measurements make it all worth it.
  • Not a mom, but I was 197 (I'm 5'3" as well) at my heaviest. I've heard this a few times but it's so true: it takes time to gain the weight, so it's going to take time to lose it. One step at a time and you'll get to where you need to be. :)
  • So far my mom has been the only one to tell me to stop (she thinks that measuring and weighing food is crazy... but she's also a lot heavier and has been for a long time) but I've had friends that have found ways to subtly damage my progress. I had a friend visit recently who knew that I was running and keeping track of my…
  • If you're allowed to have one in your room, maybe you can get a rice cooker. Rice is super cheap, fills you up, and is so easy to mix with other things to make it tasty.
  • I LOVE spin classes so much. During and after. Especially with an upbeat and happy instructor. I'm quickly coming to love running too. So much fun once I get past that mid-run slump.
  • I had the WORST craving for Reese's Peanut Butter cups the other night. I had room in my calorie budget AFTER I factored in a 60 minute walk. 10 minutes in to the walk (and after drinking a lot of water) I wasn't craving it anymore. Every now and then the craving comes back (like right now) but I just go for a walk or eat…
