  • Yup. Been to goal weight 3 times. If I’d stay within 5 pounds of my goal weight (125) I’d say I’d maintained. But when I go up 8-11 pounds, to me, that isn’t maintaining. I’ve just gotten back into my maintenance range once again (128), trying to keep my focus and remember that I CAN make the right choices every day to…
  • Name: Fiddletime Maintenance- 3 years Goal maintenance range- 123-128 Current weight- 129.4 Recent success- I’m down from 136.6 heading back into my maintenance range again. I did it pretty quickly this time, in a couple of months. Strategy- i’ve switched to a lectin free diet (Plant Paradox book) for health reasons.…
  • I’m 64 and want to be fit and active for years to come. Like others, I want to be self sufficient in my older years. This keeps me exercising and it helps me to get back on track when my weight slips up.
  • I’m 5’2”, 134 and 64 yo. My maintenance is 1350 and slow weight loss is 1200 (not counting exercising). Eating 2 slices of pizza every week would really sabotage my process unless I banked calories, which is hard to do at 1200 per day. OP is also at 1200/d......
  • I’ve tried various techniques to lose the last ten pounds (because I have regained it). My least successful was losing quickly- a pound a week. Because I was ravenous and “got there” and quickly over ate. Losing a half pound a week has allowed me to reach goal and slip into maintenance easily. But, I really love sweets!…
  • It’s an interesting point actually. For some of us who have “maintained” for decades, it may have been a constant battle of being overweight, then normal BMI, then overweight again. My goal is to make my 20-25 pound weight swings never more than 6 pounds (I’m 5’2”). People who have had to lose larger amounts of weight may…
  • I weighed 125-135 in HS and still weigh that. It’s been a battle for 45 years (gasp!) and I’ve gone up to 150 (why I came on this site) and as low as 110 in graduate school. While I managed to keep at that range it was getting harder and harder. It’s disappointing that as we become seniors it isn’t any easier to be at an…
  • Me too. Sailed past my scream weight of 129 and am now 135 and am kicking myself (a little) and logging again. Only took me two months to gain 7 pounds. Hate that.
  • The biggest thing for me is that over the years in maintenance I’ve had big slips. Like, 2 months of no logging for various reasons. And, I always gain about 3-4 pounds a month. Rather than gaining 30 pounds, I finally kick myself and get back to logging and lose the weight. I think of it as a mini-yo-yo. You’ll have to…
  • I have gained 3 years in a row, around 7 #, during the holidays. It’s always because I stopped logging. 4 years ago I gained back 15 pounds- also because I stopped logging after a one meal overage that ended up lasting a few months. You have the tools to lose weight, but you will have slip ups. What I’ve learned over the…
  • I stayed right within my calorie limit yesterday and gained a pound overnight. I suspect it was from the salt in my Burmese lunch. That’s why I weigh daily. To get used to these fluctuations. (And I’ve been weighing daily for years, but nobody likes a weight gain when they’re actively engaged in maintaining or losing).
  • I declared maintenance at 5# over goal weight when I stayed there for 4 months. I was a good BMI but then I made an effort to lose the 5. Over the holidays I’m back up 5. But maintenance is a lot of ups and downs for many. It’s a range so there doesn’t need to be a set number. For me, I like to be at 125, but am now at…
  • OP, since I really like junk food I fit in a Klondike ice cream bar to my measly 1200 calories. It’s chocolate covered, 250 cal, and filling. I can’t have cakes, cookies, candy, etc in the house, but can manage just one Klondike bar. If you find something like that, it will make life more enjoyable!
  • This cracked me up as I eat 1340 cal maintenance and 1200 to lose. I was curious to know the calories in this breakfast.
  • My maintenance schedule is to lose the 7 pounds I gained from Halloween to New Years in the new year. It’s a little frustrating and I’m working next year on better logging- even through the holidays. Every day. I do that for the rest of the year, but Halloween just kind of gets me in the mood to slack off. OP- I totally…
  • Sophie you came to this country and totally rocked it. Your Ivy League degree and professional degree do indeed prove to all that you are one hard working and tough individual. As you know, and others have said, you are NOT your weight. If your weight is an issue for you down the road, I have no doubt you’ll do what it…
  • You’ll feel better and better about a lot of things as you’re losing. What I mean by that is, it isn’t the weight you are now and how you feel about that, then 100 pounds from now. As you lose 5 pounds over and over you’ll get what the poster above said- 5 pound parties. And if it takes you a year, or two, or three (there…
  • Many of us have problems around December. A few years ago I was in maintenance and just kind of stopped logging, loved eating and not logging, and gained the 25# I’d lost over a year, back. Back down to goal weight now, rather than going crazy logging over the holidays I “allow” myself to gain 6# back, and then it’s back…
  • Nice! My chart would look the exact opposite. Way to go!!
  • Here’s a picture of the piles of sweets. Ackkkkk!!
  • Two plates of homemade Christmas cookies, a box of assorted Godiva chocolates, homemade English toffee (4 pounds!) and delicious store bought English toffee have been added to the collection. This year I’ll just fit it into my calories. Really. I will! The sad thing is we only have 7 employees at work!
  • Way to go to reclaim your life, in spite of your illness. You posted in the maintaining thread. It would be great to see this in the Success Stores!
  • My goal weight is 125. I’m 5’2” and 64. From Halloween through Thanksgiving I basically ate a ton of candy and lots of pies and sweets. I gained 4 pounds and right after Thanksgiving I decided enough was enough, I’d gone a pound over my range, and needed to do what I know I can do. I slowly have lost a pound and have my…
  • Gained 4 real pounds in the past month. Time to get back on the horse. It WAS fun eating all that I wanted since before Halloween, but.......!
  • I’m 5’2” and have lost 25# over and over between regaining. Now I’ve been maintaining for over a year. My goal is 125 but I know Halloween to Christmas is tough for me- so many really yummy foods. I’m up 4# in a month and my maintenance range is 1-3# so here I am again, like a nooby, logging and weighing. Hang in there.…
  • I’m 5’2” and have broad shoulders. I was 130 for almost a year but am now at 125 and have much better definition. I work out routinely and think I’d be best at 122. Any lower and I get gaunt looking.
  • Be patient. I’m 63 and 5’2”. Lost 15 pounds at 1200 cal then maintained that for 8 months. It was really hard to keep at 1200 cal and I probably averaged close to 1400. Two months ago I tightened up my logging and lost the 5 pounds in a month. I’ve kept it off. I finally got determined enough to put the effort in.
  • First, start logging. Then, tighten up the logging so that you include creamer and ketchup, and weigh foods when possible. Finally, stay under the calorie count, which might mean eating back only a half to 3/4 if your exercise burn. If you stall then the guesstimate for the exercise burn might be too high. You’ll lose the…
  • A big Mexican meal will make the scale go up a few pounds overnight for me. Sometimes it takes 5 days for me to get back where I started. The value of logging and weighing myself is so i can learn how my body works with retention of water, weight gain and loss, etc..
