  • I'm in! 4.0 today.
  • A few years ago I dragged my lazy brother out for a run and kicked his but. Then he joined his high school cross country team and can now run circles around me. To be honest, I'm probably the annoying one, not him. Maybe your brother is just happy to spend time with you? You could try doing fewer of your workouts with him…
  • I've been avoiding situps/crunches because they hurt my back sometimes. Instead I do body holds, squats (which I heard were great for prolapse!!) and twist lunges. Would these exercises be okay for you? Body holds (plank): http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercises_10.htm Body weight squats:…
  • 17 mi. I just started though!! May will hopefully bring in some bigger numbers. :)
  • I'm in! My first workout will be a run tomorrow morning.
  • Sauteed peas and leeks with whole wheat couscous cooked in rosemary broth with goat cheese. Delicious! Adapted from: http://www.coconutandquinoa.com/2012/04/04/polenta-with-ramps-and-peas/
  • I've been wanting to try these harmless concoctions: Iced cinnamon chocolate coffee https://sites.google.com/site/thefoodplaceborecipes/iced-cinnamon-chocolate-coffee and this: Peanut butter mocha frappuccino https://sites.google.com/site/thefoodplaceborecipes/peanut-butter-mocha-frappuccino both are from this food blog:…
  • I am 5'10" and my boyfriend is 5'11". I don't wear heals often simply because my feet can't take it but when I do he LOVES it. I think if you're with a confident man it doesn't matter.
  • Tara Stiles has great videos (e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRsC1YdXqOc ). I also have one of her books and iPhone app. In some studios you can find free classes and/or free beginner classes so you can get a feel for what yoga is about. I recommend taking a few classes so that you can make sure you're doing the basic…
  • I'm a big advocate of diversity. I like to run, cycle, hike, swim, practice yoga, etc. Running is probably the most efficient calorie burner for me but I love that cycling allows me to travel more ground and see more things. I also love group exercise classes, so biking has that advantage as well. I  it all.
  • if you're using an iPhone or other smartphone I recommend getting True Weight or True Weight Lite. The app tracks your weight using a moving average which smooths out the daily fluctuations in weight. You could do a similar thing using excel or by hand. Instead of looking at you current weight, take the average of the last…
  • Congratulations on your weightloss! That is no small feat. How did you lose the weight? Diet, exercise or a combination of both? I suffer from bouts of depression/moodiness that are usually brought on by stress, so I can somewhat relate. I find that exercise, or any kind of physical activity, really, helps me tremendously.…
  • I usually don't run with water and sometimes I'm dying of thirst by the time I get home... so I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I usually run holding my iphone so I would think a water bottle wouldn't be too bad, I just need to get a arm strap for my phone. Give it a try once or twice by just holding your water…
  • Decided to add... Zombies, Run! -- It is a audio running game for the iPhone. There are 40 runs worth of material which is played between songs. You also have an option to include "zombie chases" which is good for interval training. Zombies will pop out of nowhere and you have to run 20% faster or you will lose all of the…
  • Hello Runner 5s: I started Zombies, Run! earlier this week. I've done 4 runs (17.1 miles!) and so far I am loving the app. I am surprised how well the storyline is progressing, which is good because I find myself really wanting to go out for runs. Population: 103
  • Check out this thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/292205-juice-fasting?page=15#posts-4057676 it's 15 pages and counting and full of information from people who are doing the reboot and other variations now.
  • I've been stalking this thread for quite some time now. I watched the documentary too, like many (Fat Sick and Nearly Dead) and really got inspired by it. I don't have too much weight to lose but I have a few health ailments and being only 22 it would be nice to learn to control and clean things up now while my youth is…
  • Carrot base Zucchini Kale Ginger Yum! Start with a little ginger and add more to taste. I happen to like a lot of it, but I think some might not.
  • Complemented with lots of vegetables, fiber and water you should be fine as long as the number isn't astronomically high.
  • There are a lot of things you can try but I don't think any contain promises but here are my suggestions: detox/cleanse rest week from exercise shuffle your caloric intake so that the weekly intake meets your goals (i.e. M:1200, Tu:1400, W:1200, Th:1600, F:1200, S:1400, Su:1200) make sure you are correctly logging!! good…

  • For all of those worried about not getting enough protein: To read the whole article (which has multiple parts), start here: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_nutrients.php
  • actually this is one of many articles in a series. it maybe better to start off with this one http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_nutrients.php
  • Besides the many healthful benefits of protein and complex carbs, a higher intake can help with blood sugar levels as well as make you feel fuller longer. A lot of people can argue about the "correct" ratio of macro-nutrients (protein, fat, carbs), but in the end, to lose weight you just need to focus on the total…
  • I'll definitely check out CardioTrainer sounds really good.
  • *BUMP* I posted this a few months ago but as time goes by I know there are more and more apps are out there. Any suggestions?
  • I like to use this app called True Weight. There is a free version. You log your daily weight there and it computes a "moving average". So as long as that number isn't going up you're fine. Weight fluctuations are normal and this app helps take a bit off the nerves. Don't worry and just keep going!
  • As long as you monitor the calories you're taking in and stay under your daily limit you wont gain weight. Protein is beneficial for building and maintaining muscles as well as other important bodily functions. Protein has less calories per gram and takes more energy to digest then fat. It also makes you feel fuller longer…
  • A Calorie is 1000 calories. It is the energy required to increase the temperature of 1 kilogram 1 degree Celsius. Which is sort of insane if you think about it. 100 Calories is enough to bring a 1 kilogram block of ice to boiling. (If my calculations are correct).
  • I wouldn't worry about the water weight. It isn't fat and will go away so its okay. My experience is that Korean food is actually really healthy compared to a lot of other culture's food-- lots of vegetables and lean protein. I like karincakes' advice about flushing the extra sodium with water... this totally works for me.…
