  • It's difficult to see your transformation over the cuteness of the dog! (S)he's adorable!!! Good work and I bet Nutmeg runs you ragged!!!
  • 5'5" and my goal currently is 140lb. This puts me just into the normal weight range, but I've no idea what I'll look like when I get there. I'm expecting to either move the goal posts as I get nearer or, more likely, start concentrating on body fat or other fitness goals.
  • Blech - can't stand chocolate milk! (I'm picky about my chocolate!) Fresh milk post-workout tastes great. Just tastes horrible the rest of the time!
  • Thanks for this link. I've started to panic slightly, as I'm a product of the fat-free 80's and am worried osteoporosis and arthritis is pretty much an inevitability. Glad to see that strength training can have an effect at any point.
  • Funny you should say that - on the back of Philidelphia and Cadbury's chocolate spread, Cadbury are now marketing Ritz crackers in milk chocolate. Sounds absolutely vile! I can't have Ritz crackers in the house - I will eat them all. But apart from that, beer and savoury pastries - pies, pasties, rolls and flans. Love them…
  • Now that just made me lol for realz.
  • Oh, now that's just filthy... I like my pickles like I like my men, hot and spicy and dipped in mayonnaise...
  • I can see a pattern there... but I can't quite put my finger on it... I'm not much of a planner. I tend to grab some protein - whatever's on offer at the supermarket, or going cheap and then have a think about what it's going to turn into. Go tos are, though, homemade burgers, thai curries, stew or slab o' meat (or…
  • So much this. Shop-bought white bread is evil - tasteless, sugary and guaranteed to leave me wanting at least one more sandwich. (But is usually the only thing in the house for making toasted cheese. :frown: ) If I ate more bread, I'd buy a bread maker and make my own. My parents do this, and even the bog-standard white…
  • Fantastic job so far!
  • I've been eating close on 1900kcal a day for the last eight months - losing around 1.4lb a week. Reasons? Exercise, plus being heavy. My BMR is around 1600 a day at the moment (see the comment on being heavy), my current TDEE is 2600kcal. Both are going to drop as I lose the weight, but I'm resigned to that.
  • I'm 5"5' and I've lost 50lb in eight months (anniversary today!) And I''ve got another 50lb to go - it's going to take me at least another year, may be more to drop that. But I'm determined. How? By logging honestly, eating enough, but not too much and getting some walking in. Have started to do strength training now, to…
  • All the bloody time. Seriously. And I like to replay them in my head for my own humiliation - which just makes me wince more. A lot involve me tripping over. For instance on Saturday, I was at a club, stepped off a podium, stood on the back of my new slinky black trousers and fell flat on my face. Most people thought I was…
  • Muscle is denser than fat. So while a pound is a pound is a pound, a pound of muscle will take up less space than a pound of fat in the same place. There's quite a few of us Brits here - check out Team UK in the Groups.
  • ... ahhh. Now I understand the post in the website feedback section talking about banning ab pictures. Yup, so intimidating. How am I going to concentrate on my six hours of cardio when there's people with muscles walking around?!
  • I eat very little bread (don't much like it, unless it's homemade and straight from the oven.) That said, I would totally go for that. Those loaves are *awesome*!!!
  • Aiming to lose 98lb, and am halfway there. Started at 238lb, 5'% and 37 years old (38 now, my height's still the same! ) I'm losing (still) about 1.5lb a week on 1600 kcals net of exercise. I've got more active as I've slimmed down, and am currently eating just under 1900kcals a day. I agreed, 1200kcals is low. Use…
  • I don't have to feel hungry or deprived in order to lose weight. That was a big eye-opener for me. All previous diets had been VLCD - more a punishment for getting fat than a solution. (Damn the 80's!!!)
  • No. Everyone is different. You can't extrapolate from one data source (yourself.) There are plenty of people on the forums who break fast later in the day. Now I do eat breakfast, but it's high protein and fat which keeps me from overeating later in the day. Someone else might do much better eating cereals. Yet another…
  • Cold / sinus infection? I eat eggs and chicken soup, if I feel like eating. I avoid dairy (phlegm production) and I make a herbal tea from fresh ginger, lemon and honey. If a headache is also on the menu, I add fresh rosemary and if a cough is putting in an appearance, white horehound. I keep some menthol/eucalyptus and…
  • When I was single, it was pyjamas. But now I'm married, it's naked all the way!
  • First of all, congrats on realising you need to address this now (and not 10-15 years down the road, like me!) You're putting into place most of the things you need to do to maintain a good lifestyle - learning to cook is, I believe, key. Yes, it is possible to lose weight without exercising, but as many above have said,…
  • Yet another vote here for Mark Lauren, but I'm going to mention his "Body By You" book instead of "You Are Your Own Gym" - it's tailored towards women, so concentrates on core and upper body (where we women tend to be weaker) - some great exercise routines in there and they are progressive. The escalation is slightly…
  • In the UK it's generally accepted that the host provides food and mixers, the guests bring booze (and food if they want to, but it's not generally necessary...) Of course, the hosts also have booze to contribute usually, if you do this regularly - that's how you get rid of the last lot of booze that was left after the last…
  • I googled "blue waffle" and just got pictures of blue waffles. I'm missing something, obviously...
  • I say yes, I have. It's deliberate, and if the questioner asks what my secret is, I tell them it's this amazing new fad diet - it's called "eat less and exercise more". They never want to know any more after that...
  • Two out of three - not a whisky drinker at all. But I do brew my own beer, if that counts?
  • I have a dress that I bought when I was sixteen and have worn about three times since. I last got into it when I was twenty-one and about 154lb (11 stone). That's my goal dress at the moment. Bearing in mind it's been seventeen years since I last wore it, I'm not 100% sure it's still going to suit me... but I live in hope!…
  • Can you try piercing the shell with a pin? If you're careful, you should be able to do it without breaking the shell - that will tell you whether there's gunk or glory inside. Otherwise, shaking it might work (raw eggs will sound sloshy. But if it doesn't sound sloshy, it might still be raw.) Or gently spin the egg on a…
  • Complete and utter tosh. I'd still be 17 stone and miserable, if my wife hadn't pulled me up by my bootstraps and set me going down the weightloss route. Plus having someone to cook healthy meals for, and them to cook healthy meals for you is priceless. My wife is my drill sergeant, my confidant, my nurse and my…
