  • Resting heart rate is mid-50s. 70lb ago it was in the high-70s.
  • Technically a bad year for me - this time last year, I was in a hiatus, after losing almost 80lb. Unfortunately, 16lb of those crept back on before I said 'enough is enough' and came back a couple of weeks ago. On the plus side - I'm fitter than I was last Christmas, thanks to completing the Couch to 5K back in the Spring,…
  • Awesome stuff - that's the amount I've needed to lose (started at 238lb, down 66lb as of today) - good to see the massive difference.
  • There's always *kitten* - but you can ignore them because they are *kitten*. Otherwise, most people are too wrapped up in their own lives to care overmuch. Also, once you start running, you'll be too busy having a good run to care about anyone else. Good luck - running is one of the good things I've started doing too.
  • I'm late to the party as I couldn't find the thread! I'm fairly new to running - started at the end of April with a C25K programme. Have now run 3 5K races and I'm going to sign up for the Lincoln (UK) 10K in April. Am currently eyeing a 10K at the end of January, however. We shall see! I'm beset by a niggly achilles, so…
  • Add another for protein, plus veg. I tend to skip the complex carb portion, but you can add that as well. You can go a long way with grilled chicken or beef, steamed fish, or grilled burgers. Add a twist of black pepper when cooking, to bring out the flavour. Add a large green salad (with a simple dressing - I use a splash…
  • Also came here to say this! (Of course, I've been on board with banning DHMO for years... ;-) )
  • It's definitely personal. I've lost three band sizes (38" to 32"), but have remained the same cup size (H). Of course, my boobs are a lot smaller in real terms. Just wish I could lose a couple of cup sizes so I could start buying cheap bras!
  • You're doing well so far! You don't need cardio to burn fat, that's what the calorie deficit is for. But cardio is good for burning extra calories (so you can eat more...) Strength training (weightlifting or body strength exercises) are great for keeping the muscle you've got. You don't need to eat low carb, unless you've…
  • I've got rid of a few pieces - ones that definitely don't fit any more (except for one pair of 'example' trousers and my wedding dress). But it's surprising how many old clothes are still in my wardrobe. They still fit (if a little loose) so there's no point in getting rid just yet. But when they finally don't fit any…
  • Amazing job! And good luck with the Comp!
  • Getting into my goal dress (15lb early!) and having to buy another goal dress!!! That was a good day. Running for 15 minutes straight (I'm on the Couch to 5K programme at the moment), that was a great day too. I am looking very much forward to my first 5K run.
  • 75lb lost: eating a little less and moving a little more. Oh, and not giving up. (There's other, personal, stuff there in terms of managing within a calorie allowance and balancing macros, but that's the simple (not-so) secret formula!)
  • Fantastic job! Congratulations on such a great milestone. And here's to many more!
  • Fantastic job! It's great when you realise that yes, you can do this! I'm in Week 3 of C25K and I'm loving it - even getting out of bed early to go for my morning jog (this is unheard of)... I hope you have as much fun with it as I have.

  • Yup - resting heart rate (that is, sat at my desk at work), is approx. 20bpm less than it was two years (and 75lb) ago. I went from high 70's to around 60bpm. It's not just the lost weight, but also the increased exercise/stamina and better nutrition. I'm definitely feeling better for it!
  • It should definitely work- it's been my theory from the start. I figured that as it was going to take me 2+ years to get to my goal weight, I may as well use that time to practice eating sensibly. The weight did fly off at first (I was 100lb - 45kg - over goal), but now that I'm getting closer to my ideal weight, it's…
  • You are both joking right? DHMO is also known as hydrogen hydroxide! Hydroxide as in caustic soda?! Ouch!!!
  • I eat after, as eating before makes me feel yucky and I don't seem to put in a good performance. I'm mostly running for workouts at the moment. It's very personal preference, so you'll need to find out what works for you. (I do like the idea of some carbs before a workout and protein after. Pity it's not something I can…
  • All the above, so I'll add you're only a failure if you give up forever. Until then, regardless of the setbacks, you're still in there.
  • I'm with everyone else - there's a huge difference between those two photos. If it's any consolation, I've lost 70lb and barely see it most of the time. Just occasionally, when I'm feeling really postive about myself. The rest of the time I have to be content with the fact my clothes are three sizes smaller. ETA: And I…
  • Lyle McDonald? He the bodycomposition guy? Yeah - he's really good at explaining what's going on. Thanks for the link, OP - I'll definitely have to listen to that!
  • All the above - patience, consistency, eating a little less and moving a little more. The first 15lb took about two months to come off. The last 23, however, are taking for-freaking-ever!
  • No good advice, from me, I'm afraid - this is exactly where I'm struggling too. In for the tips. (And seriously, the first 75lb were so much easier to lose than the last 25lb.)
  • 80/10/10 - that was what I gained all my weight on (or more like 85/10/5 once I started getting very heavy) growing up. And you don't need to be crazy "China Study" or fruitarian to do that. Just be part of a family existing on a lower working class wage, a traditional British working class "men eat the meat, women eat the…
  • Sainsbury's have coconut oil, usually in the 'ethnic foods' section (I think it's a Jamaican brand - KTC). It's solid, so look for a clear plastic jar full of wax. It's lovely. Good luck - and I second the strength training.
  • Awesome job! What a way to start a Friday!

  • Another vote for a split slip - they're awesome. When I found them a couple of years ago, I started wearing dresses and skirts again - it was amazing! Of course, I've ditched a lot of the weight now, so I don't need to use them so often...
  • Sooo many pretties! Mine is a screenshot of my first year's progress. Just to remind myself that weightloss isn't linear. (And will never be if I don't stick at it...)
  • Depends on why I'm eating it - full fat if I want the calcium, fat free if I'm after the protein (greek yogurt, in the main). Mostly full fat, though. To echo what another poster said - is it added sugar or just an upped proportion of sugar, due to the fat being taken out?
