  • Well, not so much with the being warm - I'm fair complexioned and I've not lost my heat storage capability yet. So was toasty all through the winter, despite being 40-50lb down from last year. But definitely yes with the reduced appetite. Most specifically, I find it so much easier to avoid starchy foods during the summer.…
  • I do all the time. Friends, at least. Complete strangers more like sometimes - if they're wearing something fabulous. I've yet to have some random stranger not break into a grin when I compliment their knitted scarf (especially if they made it themselves), or amazing jacket.
  • Leftovers - I've a freezer full of extra portions of evening meals. I'm terrible at cooking to x portions - we used to eat the extra, hence the losing weight - now I freeze it! If there's nothing in the fridge, then I grab one of those and defrost it in the microwave at work. Otherwise, deli meat, cheese, and you can get…
  • As bebrandwood said, it's a solid set-up. You may find you're eating a little more over time. If you do have exercise heavy days, try and eat a little more fat to mop up those exercise calories. Fat's not, necessarily, the devil and you need some in your diet for hormone regulation. You're getting some with the peanut…
  • Ahah! Someone else who's enjoying the vapeing. I've cut down on my cigs, and am still hoping to quit entirely before the year is up. I was quite well aware of my size (although, frankly I wasn't quite aware of *how* big I looked, just that I was headed towards morbid obesity). I'd tried to lose weight several times before…
  • Wow! Thanks for the link. I think the most fascinating bit of that paper was that not only were the feral cats stealing the milk, but also that gulls had been observed doing the same!
  • In for advice - I'm totally there at the moment, but still 50lb from goal. It's frustrating.
  • How do people shave with the grain? I'm so confused by this. Won't the blades just gently run down the hair shaft? I certainly am unable to remove any hair if I go down my legs. Hell, my hair is so tough, I find it difficult to cut the blighters going up the leg!
  • This. If you can find the time, home-made "ready meals" are the biz. I'm terrible at cooking small amounts anyway, so on nights I do cook, the stew / stirfry / curry / chilli / bolognese leftovers go into individual boxes (we've a lot of plastic takeaway boxes, which are ideal) and straight into the freezer. I can grab one…
  • I started at 238lb on 22nd July 2013 - am now down 51lb. It would be more, but it's been a hard couple of weeks. Just over halfway to goal, and am expecting it to take another year. There are times when I'm all "I just want to be thin!!!", then I remember that a 50lb+ drop is no mean feat. I've been pretty consistent (with…
  • I started at 238lb and it took about 30lb for me to drop the first dress size. It was a combination of factors - I should have been in a size bigger to start with and all my old clothing was stretched out of shape. I also lost most of the initial weight on my belly and having large hips a bust, that just meant clothes got…
  • Actually, I'm going to buck the trend here - if you're eating more fibre, but being more constipated, for goodness sakes, eat less fibre. You're body's not happy with that amount at the moment. Please, please don't take fibre supplements until you're on a better pooping schedule. (I'm very sensitive to large amounts of…
  • No, the MFP database doesn't encourage "convenience" nutrition. It's the nature of convenient foods to be, well, more convenient. I don't need to weigh out my ready meals - it's all calculated for me. Someone else (working in a factory) has taken the time to weigh out the pasta, the meat, the veg and the sauce (and trust…
  • Well, this lesbian would totally date Johnny Galecki!
  • Also in, expecting more inappropriateness than we got! Sounds like your boyfriend is being sneaky! Honestly, leaving his sword at yours all the time...
  • Yup, it all depends on how you take it. I drink instant with a splash of milk, 26kcal, or cafetiere black, 5kcal. On the other end of the scale, Starbucks White Chocolate Cream Frappuccino (venti) is 520kcal. Depending on how much milk, creamer and or sugar you have, your usual order will be somewhere on that scale. The…
  • If you're going hell for leather, there's nothing wrong with knitting on the recumbent - if you're there for half an hour, it's primo knitting time! Yes, have been known to do that (though, do time that for quiet times in the gym - while *I* may want to cycle for 45 minutes, if there's a queue, then it's only polite to cut…
  • Bats are cute...
  • 1600kcal net, which is between 1800 - 2400 kcal gross, depending on how active I am that day. Still losing around 1.4lb a week (I hope - the scales haven't been kind this week...)
  • Yes, I did that. I was eating around 0.5-1kg of raw carrots a day as a snack, though. Which is a lot to eat raw. I've never had the same problem when eating that amount cooked. If you're eating a lot of these raw, I'd dial back that amount. Try cooking them more and get a little more variety in your diet. There's a…
  • 15 minutes is 15 more than if you didn't start. Go for it - you'll be doing more in no time. I started back in July last year with a 20 minute walk, which tired me out, after being mostly sedentary for a very long time. I'm now able to walk for several hours or swim for an hour without a break. Good luck!
  • Just pass me the bucket of natural greek yogurt and I'm set!!! (So's the yogurt...)

  • Getting in the zone when swimming or walking makes me raaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwrrr. Just when it's you and the element, and you're gliding along. It feels like minimal effort - or it does until you stop! I use weight machines (don't judge: best I can do at the moment in the work gym), and while I don't usually feel like a beast…
  • Yeah, what others have said. If you find that smaller breakfast (if you eat it) and lunch and saving your calories for the evening doesn't make you want to eat everything, then go for it. I save about half my calories for the evening, after eating 25% at breakfast and 25% at lunch.
  • Started logging and tracking my calories, committed to walking at least 20 minutes in a day and cut out the two pints of squash (non-alcoholic cordial) a day. Tracking my macros and upping exercise came later.
  • Low fat flavoured yogurts (Muller Light, blech) - they use so much artificial sweetner in it, you can *taste* the aspartame. This is never good. Yeah, that carton might only be 120kcals, but that's about a (small) glass of wine! I get on with Danio with fruit, but I see people's points about it being not worth it - much…
  • I did create an entry for, and log, a cat treat. (Not sure if it was this site, or a.n.other site I used before I found MFP) - if people record every bite, lick and taste, then it makes sense that I log the cat treat I ate because I was curious as to a) whether it tasted nice and b) what it actually tasted like. FYI - it…
  • I always make my own burgers. With turkey, I use a whole egg per pound of mince, a small finely chopped onion and a dash of lemon juice (plus fresh thyme for flavour). I've never had them come out dry. Mind you, there's some other fantastic ideas here - will have to try the avocado and barbeque sauce one!
  • The different terms can be awfully confusing when you start. Check out the acronym guide: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1069278-acronyms-and-terms-for-new-mfp-members-v-6 And then, to put it into context, read the sexy pants link and the getting back to basics link, mentioned above (I think - will double check…

  • What everyone else has said. But to address your question of any routines to build your upper body, if you can't get to a gym, look into some body resistance training - www.nerdfitness.com has some great ones, or check out Mark Lauren's You Are Your Own Gym. Do press-ups and triceps dips. Get something heavy (a 5l water…
