  • Wulfax, I'm so sorry to hear about your health setback. But, with your doctor's permission, I'm glad you aren't letting it stop you from moving forward!
  • I DID IT!!! I ran my first 5K this morning. My unofficial time according to Runtastic was 40:08. I'll have to look up my official time - I think they'll be posting that somewhere. I had to walk one small portion -- just at the beginning of mile 3, there was a very steep hill. Everyone was walking it (except, I'm sure, for…

  • I DID IT!!! I jogged the whole 3.2 miles on my practice run today. Now I KNOW I can do it next week -- my first 5K is March 8. I'm so glad, because I've been pretty down, thinking I was going to fail. I was worried to the point that I was ready to quit and not do the race at all. But now I know I can do it, and I'm not…
  • Thanks, MM. I will try to slow down. :)
  • That's fantastic! Congratulations!!!
  • Week 8, Day 2. Got sidelined by nausea again, darnit. Only finished 24 of the 28 minutes, then had to stop. However, did Week 8 Day 1 earlier in the week, and only had a tiny bit of nausea and was able to run through it. I'm feeling a bit demoralized. My first 5K is March 8, and I really don't think I'll be able to run the…
  • Cool - that's also good to keep in mind. I'll keep an eye on what I'm eating (and times) prior to running, and see how that affects things. Thank you!
  • I'm not sure I can run much slower without walking. Well, that's essentially what I did - I walked 20-30 paces then jogged again. I think it is that my body is more tired now that I am completing longer runs. Maybe that's why week 7 just has you doing 25 minute runs, to get your body used to that amount of time? I'm not…
  • Week 7 Day 1 today. My app is a timed version, and according to the app I managed 2.1 miles in the 25 minutes I was allotted to jog. I did the 5 minute walk after that (I needed it!), and then alternated walk/jogs to the end of the 5K. Gonna keep plugging along. My first 5K is March 8!
  • Yay! Congratulations!!!
  • Way to go!!! It is a great feeling of accomplishment to complete a run that, when we first began, would be seemed impossible. :)
  • My motivation has been lagging this week. Haven't run since Sunday, when I finished Week 6. :( I did sign up for my first 5K, though - it will be on March 8. So hopefully that will be the motivation I need to keep going! I'm so close to my goal. I have a little inner voice that is fearful I will fail, that I won't be able…
  • 15/19 - A couple were definitely lucky guesses. I can hardly wait until next week!!!
  • Checking in -- did Week 6 Day 3 today. My app failed me and erased all the info at the end of my run, so I couldn't log it. I'm pretty bummed out about that! This isn't the first time that has happened. I'm going to go out and drive the route to see how many miles I actually jogged. According to my Fitbit stats, I traveled…
  • Thank you for this! I will definitely try it.
  • Did Week 6 Day 2 yesterday. It was my first time running on pavement, which I've been wanting to do for a while. I figure any 5K I do will be on pavement, so I want to get used to it ahead of time. My jogging until yesterday was either on the treadmill or on a dirt/gravel path at a local park. I was fine with the pavement.…
  • I've been taking C25K very slowly. I think it took me a couple of weeks (at least) to get through week one, day one. If I made it through half of the jogging portions, I would try to do at least one more the next time, until I was able to get through all of it. Don't be too hard on yourself! I found I had to get better…
  • Hi Dan! Welcome to MFP. Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like. MFP has been working well for me -- I hope you will have a good experience with it, too. :)
  • Hi, and welcome! Feel free to add me if you wish. :)
  • Great job! You look fantastic (and I bet it feels fantastic, too!).
  • Thank you, MeanderingMammal. I think I will move forward. And I'll try to slow down just a bit, too - I know my pace varied throughout the run, but I was surprised to see such a low average. I really appreciate the advice. :)
  • I did Week 5 Day 3 again today (since I only managed 15 minutes of it last time) - this time outdoors. I completed the entire 20 minute jog, but had to take a brief pause (very brief) about 3/4 of the way through. I walked for about 20-30 steps to catch my breath, then started the timer again and jogged the rest. Question:…
  • There's a lot of great advice offered here. Trying not to be so hard on yourself, and taking small steps at first are very important. When I started in earnest back in July, I spent a lot of time reading the forums and gleaning the good practices from the bad. The best advice I found was on the success stories forum. If…
  • I haven't used it (haven't needed to - yet), but I've read elsewhere that a product like Body Glide really helps with chafing. Here's the website with some info. http://www.bodyglide.com/products/
  • After a week and a half off (yikes! - wasn't feeling great, but to be honest I mostly attribute the break to laziness), I was back at Week 5 today. I wanted to repeat Day 2, as I thought after taking the time off, I shouldn't head right into that 20 minute run. Well, somehow, my phone app put me on Day 3 anyway, and I only…
  • LOL! :D
  • I may be stating the obvious, and you may already be doing it, but you might consider wrapping the injured ankle or getting some kind of ankle brace or support while you get back into jogging again. I injured my ankle badly a couple years ago when I first attempted C25k, and the doctor advised using extra support as I got…
  • Hooray! It's a great feeling, isn't it? Keep it up -- you can do it.
  • Welcome to MFP, Tall1IAm! Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. What a blessing, though, to have had 22 wonderful years together. And I'm glad to hear that your relationship with your mother is mended. Times have certainly changed - I'm glad she can be loving and supportive now. If you'd…
