Congratulations!! You should be feeling better about yourself. :flowerforyou: I'm sure that the nicotine and fast food cravings won't disappear overnight but you are obviously motivated to change. Good luck and keep up the great work!

I started at 280 lbs and I'm down to around 222 lbs (58 pounds lost) in 8 months. I still need to lose another 25 pounds or so (I'm 6' 2"). Not sure how long that will take. I could probably have lost it faster but losing 1.5 to 2.0 a week is very doable - and losing at that gradual rate means that it doesn't seem so hard…

Excellent! Well done, that was a good time for your first 5K! :drinker:

I agree that it's most likely water weight. Don't let it put you off exercising, though. It will help you lose weight over the long run. Keep up the good work!

I agree that you might be able to get shoes that help - but definitely get some professional medical advice.

I'm no expert, but I'd definitely log that burn if I were you! I'll be interested to see the arguments against, if there are any. I think it's difficult to figure out the calorie burn for strength training without an HRM - but with one, why not?

I'm really proud and happy for you, gorgeous!! Sorry that you agonized so much over posting the pictures but it helps us all see how far you've come and serves as an inspiration. One thing that you haven't lost is that amazing smile! :flowerforyou:

I found several references, including this one: http://www.livestrong.com/article/276008-ideal-weight-by-age-gender/ that say that, after puberty, your ideal weight does not change with age. Sorry! :-(

Sorry, but that's a lot of misinformation!! "Many negative articles also claim that microwaves change the molecular structure and composition of food by ejecting some electrons from atoms and forming cancer-causing free radicals. According to Professor Bloomfield, "microwaves don't affect the molecular structure of the…

I agree too! Don't worry about the stupid scales! Just keep up the good work and you'll see some weight loss after a few more weeks.

Awesome! Congratulations! Can we get autographs??

Maybe you are running too fast. I know it seems really awkward sometimes, but try to concentrate on running REALLY slowly. The first time I ran 7 miles I think I was running ~ 14:30 mile pace (instead of what I thought was my "normal" 10:30 pace). I was almost embarrassed to log that run - because I figured that I can WALK…

Congratulations!! You must be feeling great! :drinker:

MFP already has a calorie deficit built in for your target wight loss (whatever that is, 1lb or 1.5 lb a week) so you're just doing the smart thing. Tell yourself that you are rewarding your body for getting some exercise and you are concentrating on losing weight in a controlled and healthy way! Keep up the good work.…

I know a lot of people recommend a product called Body Glide.

Congrats!!

I agree with this one! Salsa is usually really low in calories, so eating it with celery instead of chips means I can eat virtually endless quantities. :drinker: I also like my celery with low fat bean dip.

After you calculate your BMI, if it's over 25 you are "over weight" and if it's over 30 you are "obese". However, as far as I can find out, those numbers were chosen in a fairly arbitrary fashion. Probably because they are nice round numbers. I understand how you feel. I had a hard time accepting that I was obese…

I started C25K using one of the podcasts and my iPod. Then some more experienced runners warned me of the dangers of headphones (not being aware of traffic or, in the case of races, other runners) so I stopped using them. I run about 20 miles a week now, usually outside, and I never listen to music.

I started C25K back in late April / early May. One of the best things I ever did. I struggled a bit around week 3 or 4 due to some health issues but managed to finish it up in time for my first (and only, so far) 5K on June 21st. At first I just wanted to be able to finish the 5K, but by the end of the program I…

English style fish and chips won't have grilled fish, it'll be deep-fried in batter.

Sounds good! Good luck!

I think people are going to need more details : like how often and how far you normally run. I'd like to run a half marathon - maybe next year - but I know I'd want at least 12 weeks to get ready. (I've been running seriously for about three months now. I run 3 or 4 times a week. Usually 4 or 5 miles with a long run of 6…

Most experts seem to recommend the treadmill if you are looking to reduce the impact on your joints. When I first started running outside, I found it a lot harder than on the treadmill and I was a bit self-conscious about running in public. That said, I now much prefer running outside. You'll get a good workout either way.

or a pair of bluejeans.....

Sounds tough!! I eat quite a lot of bean dip and hummus - I know you can't live on them but they're tasty and filling. Good luck!

If anything I'd say doing those exercises will help prevent you going "saggy" when you lose the weight. You'll get muscle tone. The muscle may not show initially but it's still a good idea to do the exercises. My advice would be to ease into it gradually. Don't go crazy and risk injury or feeling so sore that you don't…

Congratulations!! That's awesome! Keep up the good work!

Kind of like chain-smoking to see how fast you can get lung cancer. :noway: I feel sorry for her kids.

What a great NSV! Must feel good to know that you're setting a good example! Well done! :flowerforyou:
