  • 38DD here, I cycle and used to do horseback riding which can get pretty bouncy. I use Triumph TriStar and Marks & Spencers own-brand sports bras are also pretty good. I prefer bras with underwires and get the highest support level available.
  • I had hip replacement surgery about one and a half years ago and I went back to training with free weights including deadlifts and lunges fairly quickly after the surgery (surgery in late November, mid-January I started picking up weights again). I did have PTs supervising but the general advice was listen to your body,…

  • If your blood pressure's not an issue, try eating some carbs before or after exercising. Doesn't have to be a lot, a banana or granola bar should do it. I get exercise headaches if I don't refuel properly.
  • Well, that's based on the assumption that weight loss is the one and only goal; as usual, there's no distinction between weight loss and fat loss and it just feeds into the current obsession with being "thin" which is pretty unhealthy in itself.
  • That's not enough. No wonder you're ravenous.
  • First of all, "eating clean" means very different things to different people (no carbs, paleo, no processed food, the list goes on). It sounds like you are restricting yourself quite severely and that it's a strategy that doesn't work for you. I know it doesn't work for me, I do much better if I allow myself treats as long…
  • It's the Daily Fail, they are not know for the quality of their (science) reporting. Besides, the article doesn't say that broccoli is unhealthy, just that it may be less healthy than previously thought. And to mix up your fruit and veg, but that's pretty much common sense.
  • I don't know what's wrong with milk or dairy in general unless of course you're lactose intolerant. And I'd rather have actual milk in my coffee than some sort of artificial creamer or other dodgy substitute.
  • My go-to is butternut squash and sweet potato soup: - peel and cube butternut squash and sweet potato (amounts should be roughly equal) - cook in vegetable or chicken stock until soft (if you've got homemade stock, great, otherwise a stock cube will do just fine) - puree and add some garam masala to taste (don't skip this,…
  • Yeah well I'm in Europe and some days you go onto the forums and there's nothing but spam as far as the eye can see. Surely there must be some way of filtering out the spam posts automatically?
  • Butternut squash and sweet potatoe soup: Peel and cube butternut squash and sweet potatoes. Cook in vegetable or chicken stock (stock cube is fine!) until soft. Process in blender, adding more water until desired consistency. Add garam masala to taste (this is important, garam masala perfectly complements the sweetness of…
  • I've lost an average 2-year-old and an average human brain.
  • I love cycling, it's my primary daily means of transport. I do about 150km per week unless the weather's really bad. I'm lucky to live in a city with lots of cyclists and a reasonable cycling infrastructure plus lots of cycle-friendly countryside.
  • Cup of cottage cheese with salt & pepper and a few grated or chopped veggies or some nuts? Hard-boiled eggs? Slice of toast with a slice of mature cheddar?
  • 20 minutes by bike. For me that's the perfect commute. It used to be 55 min each way on the tube, and I grew to loathe that, wouldn't want to go back to it again.
  • Don't - cookie breakfast is awesome!
  • This morning I had oatmeal - 1 cup low fat milk, 0.5 cup rolled oats, 2 tsp sugar, 290 calories and 14 g of protein. I use old-fashioned oats but soaked them overnight in the milk to reduce cooking time in the morning. Or how about a fruit smoothie - it's still mango season so I used 1 small honey mango, 100g 2% fat greek…
  • I really recommend going to a good outdoor store to buy hiking boots. Mine are Raichle and I'm very happy with them but more to the point, in a good store you'll be able to try them on and walk around in them. My store had a little incline set up so I could try them uphill and downhill. Same goes for a daypack, try it on…
  • +1 I'd also like to add that it's not just a simple equation of overweight = unhealthy or vice versa, only you can judge if your lifestyle is actually unhealthy. Personally, I like to strike a balance between health / fitness-driven choices and enjoying myself. It's a quality of life issue for me.
  • Yes, that's pretty much it. I'm doing strenght training three times a week (have progressed to free weights now and enjoy the heck out of it) and I cycle around 100 miles a week. I cycle because I enjoy it and I can eat more but I can also see and feel the difference that the strength training makes.
  • Good for you! I really don't get why people feel they have to comment on other's food choices, and what's with the sugar phobia?
  • It's the Daily Fail, they are not exactly known for the quality of their science reporting (or for quality journalism in general).
  • Well, if she hadn't opened her post with a blanket insult to all and sundry and then proceeded to demonstrate that she actually doesn't have a grasp of the very basic concept of weight / volume / density, I don't think people would have reacted the way they have. And yes, I expect that concept to be common knowledge, it…
  • Yes, your period could definitely be the reason. In that case it's just water weight, so nothing to worry about. It's also not infrequent for weight loss to be delayed. However, you say you've been careful in that you didn't eat any rubbish this week; did you also track your calories? Could be that your calorie intake was…

  • Lovely. Evidently OP is too uneducated to be aware of the concept of density vs weight and to explain it in his own words, because of course density is what we're talking about here. In more than one sense of the word.
  • I mostly stay within my net calories but within those limits I eat whatever Ilike. I do most of my own cooking from scratch so there's a limit on processed stuff, and I was never a fan of soda & fast food anyway. On the other hand, I do like the occasional beer or glass of wine and I certainly like (good) chocolate. Not…
  • That's an awesome visualization and confirms why strength training is so important, apart from the fact that it feels awesome of course. So far, I've lost the amount of pizza an American eats in a year (really? That much? You guys really love your pizza!) and am aiming somewhere between a cinder block and an elephant's…
